I am planning on making a fanless gaming PC and I will end up building the case from scratch. The explanations provided helped me out greatly! especially the part where the width will dissipate more important than the height. Thank you!

This was my masters project years ago. I ended up having the whole computer case (which had direct contact with all the heat generating components) work as a giant heat sink so that it can work with natural convection. After CFD analysis I realized the heat is too much over the CPU and GPU and ended up adding heat pipes to take the heat to colder parts of the heat sink. Hope my explanation helps even though you didn't ask for it :)

I expected the video to cover topic on HOW to select heatsink for cooling however watched a video on what heatsink does. Would have been great to see explanation on thermal resistivity and calculations to select a HS. Thanks anyway.

greetings, your lecture was MOST EDUCATIONAL, INFORMATIVE, MANY THANKS, and please STAY HEALTHY !!! i like to hear your opinion on this: i have 2 pcb boards connected with each other horizontally(i cannot connect them and have them placed in vertical position), so, if i use the heatsinks with fans blowing into openspace... would this configuration help ???, thanks in advance for your opinion,

Hi i need you help, i am installing a 36 amp 12v fan using Crydom SSR (HDC60D160H) PWM @ 128 Hz , the ambient temperature will be around 80c, do i need a heat sink?

An application I'm designing, where the entire purpose of the electronic component is for heat dissipation (it's a thermoelectric cooler), also has a unique spacial limitation where the available space in which the heatsink can go is highly perpendicular to the cooler's junction point. Would the heatsink width over height recommendation be equally applicable if I were to submerge (with an obvious preclusion against liquid introduction to the thermoelectric cooler itself) the heatsink in water for greater heat dissipation over standard open air heat convection?

So if I am designing a heat seak that has to be 40mmX40mmX25mm should my width be 40mm and my height of my fins also be 40mm or would it be more optimal to make my length of my fins 40mm and the height of the fins 25mm?

what about the thickness below the fins? I guess there is an optimal thickness. just like the fin length. where more length doesn't really gain any cooling. I have had a question for a while. maybe you can answer it. wouldn't a small heat sink on the face of a MOSFET. like a TO-220 or similar package. help with cooling? like in some apps. where the fet is clamped to the sink. instead of with a screw on the tab. like if a 12mm by 12mm aluminum bar is used. for clamping. maybe with fins. wouldn't that help cool the MOSFETs? and what about liquid cooling? could it work without a pump. relying on the heat rising. but that would rely on it always being in the correct orientation I guess. have a good day. and thanks for your time and information. it makes me think!

no he isnt its an animation trick in powerpoint from years ago. you just place a pic of a hand with pen into you page, and you select animate text by letter, and hand/pic traces the words..similar for the graphics. If he isn't using that..then he is an amazing illustrator :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/op2pdX5sisSlotU

Black painted heatsinks are NOT more efficient, they radiate less heat not because they are cooler but they are less efficient
