How to Select a Jacket Color

How do you select a jacket color for a kilt outfit. Well, it depends on level of formality of course. The lads go over ways to tell if you are making a solid choice for evening wear or day wear with a special focus on tweeds. Tweeds are where the fun really is when it comes to kilt jackets!

Emma don't let Rocky get you down in fact the best suggestion I've heard him make was when he suggested "The Emma Show" when Youn's were talking about what women should steal from a man's outfit. Overall, the best idea I've heard from him. Keep up the great work Emma as I for one love it when you're the M.C. because since my wife passed away, I don't get to hear a lady's opinion and yours is spot on and brightens my day. So, thank you Emma, keep up the great job you're doing for the betterment of the team. Plus, you're a lot easier on the eyes than those two.

I've got a few tweeds. Navy, Charcoal, Beaters Green and a Mid-Green with an over check. I try to match the tweeds with my tartans, which I also have several. Now I'm in the market for a brown tweed to go with my weathered kilts. I agree with Rocky, I try to match them with my hose or a color in my kilt.

Well if you get the Prince purple one you also need a raspberry beret to go with it

For me with a) limited storage space, b) few reasons to wear tweed and c) a need for several different tartans, I would buy one vest & jacket that work across the board.

I tend to wear vests without jacket more than both, but plan to get a few jackets. For me, tweeds that complement or match a tartan tends to appeal to me more, but would also be fine with tweed that looks good overall with tartan. Getting tweed that complements or matches at least 3-4 of my kilts is my goal. I tend to do that with kilt hose as well.

My bottle green tweed was my most versatile investment. I have black jackets for evening, but I LOVE my tweed.

Get sets you can mix and match. A navy blue and medium grey jacket and vest can easily be mixed for additional looks.

FWIW here in Scotland as Rocky says the tweeds people tend to wear with their kilts are generally intended to be neutral enough (charcoal especially, but also navy nowadays, chocolate brown, various Lovat greens & blues) to go with any and all tartans without clashing. They don't necessarily match a specific colour but I do see some Scots doing that (such as myself) - the ones who aren't wearing an ill fitting Charlie jacket I mean. But again they are overwhelmingly rentals so it will just be whatever is neutral, but many will just wear a black Argyll jacket regardless

+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the stylish perspective.* Were I going to a Wesleyan Methodist conference in Scotland (GBR) as a delegate o' the 東宣北米神聖教會 OMS (viz., Oriental Missionary Society) Holiness Church of North America, I'd order a five-yard and matching bias-cut vest in Clark Ancient (Lochcarron 13z), kilt jacket and hose in Navy, and garter ties and Windsor in Lovat Blue. (I already have a MARLOW👑WHITE® Class A long-sleeve in White, am fixing for walkers in black.)
