I have a question for you. I'm looking into getting the rode go 2 Lavalier mic to use when filming. If I do so will that mic be the only sountd that's recorded? I'd like to have the lapel mic record but also have the built in mic record as well. I assume this will not work. So my second question is this. If I plut the rode go 2 into the xlr input 1 port using an adaptor and then attach a shotgun mic into the xlr input 2 adaptor. Will both the lapel mic and the shotgun mic both record at the same time?

Hello sir I have a Sony z90 I need to be able to control my handheld microphone and then I able to switch to a directional microphone with the little Jack I want to know how I control the volumes a lot better like what do I select cuz I just been doing manual and I noticed that my volume for my handheld is pretty good because I have a value control on the handheld microphone but I don't have a Vine Patrol on the directional mic so I got to go into the z90 and control it through z90 I'm not that good I just got it not that long ago and I'm dyslexic so can you show me or try to explain it to me

Great video. One thing I don't understand about this camera is that there doesn't seem like a way to use an XLR mic on channel one and at the same time use the internal mic for nat sound on channel two. Thanks, Steve

Hopefully someone is following this: I'm a new owner of this camera, love it so far, but still on the learning curve. I've taken the XLR shoe off, using a smaller sony mic and happy so far...but I'm getting greedy. Here's the question: Once I mount my DJI mic receiver, and want to record the DJI wireless lapel mic, as well as the sony shotgun plugged into the hot shoe where the XLR handle used to be, is that possible? I DO know that I could use my XLR and other lapel mic setup to do this, but I'm reducing weight and bulk, packing into remote areas.

I never tried it that way, but technically, as you have two XLR input, yes you should be able to do it.

Sir, I'm trying to avoid using the XLR inputs altogether to cut down on weight and bulk. I have the XLR handle off, out of the picture. Understanding that, are you saying I could use the 3.5mm input for my DJI mic, and the hot shoe for a Sony mic plugged in, to record both of those? You wont be able to record multiple input at the same time. The selector can only take one. The only way to record 2 input is both XLR input from the handle.

Unfortunately you can't. You must select only one input. But the shoe input does have 2 input.

hello. I am using the xlr mic. my audio sounds horrible like in a tunnel , underwater. I have it plugged into input 1, and then use ch1& ch2 settting. As my old HXR-NX30U had a similar handle. If set to ch1 , I was thinking it only brings in half the mic , as it has a left and right. Now new camera video is outstanding , but when live streaming the audio is horrible.

Hi John. The trouble you describe seam to be comming away than the camera. Had you tried your microphone on an other platform? The only thing I could think the camera adjustment could do would be to low volume or to high with distortion.

Hello is it possible to set Chanel one to internal audio and chanel 2 to the 3.5mm jack?

Unfortunately you can't. The only option to have 2 channel is to use the grip and two XLR input.

That's a bummer. Maybe I should get a 3.5mm to SLR. Navigating every time is terrible. Anyway to make one of the custom buttons do switch?

There is also the auto mode but... After I done a silent recording I never used it again. The XLR input is the best as the 3.5mm is always on auto gain.

@@HowToPM What is auto gain? When I used it...it is so staticy...it's terrible.

It mean the volume will automatically adjust to the environement. In my case it mean that the begining of every sentense is disorted and then it come back to normal until I stop talking.

Then use it on XLR on a manual gain. You set it once, it work perfectly all the time. 😉

I just got the Sony FDR-AX700 and it works fine when recording with the internal mic, however when you attach an external mic (I tried with a Rode and a Sony ECM-CG60) there is a pretty noticable hum/buzz in the background. At first I was using this with an AC adapter, then I changed to a battery and it fixed it, however when I tested it again (with the battery), the hum is still there. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Well I already had a problem similar to this with an RODE NTG2. And the problem was only on my Sony NX80. It was fine on my Zoom H5. So I exchange the mic to the store and get the very same problem. Until I tried with the old demo store. Everything was fine. Turn out that it was a deffective batch from Rode. So I picked a Rode NTG-4 and everything was fine after that. But again, the NTG-2 was fine on some devices. And Finally from my previous experience, I prefer phantom power mic over battery. You never know when the battery will die.

There is also a known issue with some of the NX80 handles themselves causing background noise. Check with Sony before your warranty expires.
