9:00 My favourite variety show is called "Let's have dinner together" and i think it's great for learning korean since you hear very natural conversations and stories. It's basically 2 hosts that each have a celebrity as their team partner. At the beginning the 2 teams introduce where they are (usually some neighbourhood of korea) and then seperate and just ring doorbells and ask if they can have dinner together. If they don't get invited in by anyone, they have to eat at a convenience store, but when they manage to get invited in they talk about the lifestories of the people that invited them in and its always interesting what kinds of people they meet. Definitely recommend it! Another show my teacher recommended me is 한국기행 (Korean travel) especially because it's on youtube with thousands of episodes and no subtitles beside the usual korean ones. Side-effect of that show is that you'll see much of the nature in the different parts of Korea outside of the cities.

Hi Joy, I’m so happy I found you here! I lived in Korea for summer school many years ago but wasn’t interested in the language at all. However during the pandemic I started learning the language and already in beginner to intermediate level now. I am so impressed with how fluent you are, you’re my inspiration! I hope I can be fluent too someday and live in Korea again. P.S. when I was your age I was busy learning German 😂 it was my dream to go to Germany (just like your dream to live in Korea) und nach mehr als 10 Jahren in Deutschland gelebt zu haben, kann ich schon sagen dass ich jetzt fließend bin 😍😍😍 danke für deine tolle Videos, ich freue mich, deinem Abenteuer in Korea zu folgen 🎉

Went to SK in 2018 and was really determined to learn korean. But life happened, and it was a bit frustrating having the same level when I got back this summer. Really determined to work hard for next time, thanks for the inspiration !

I love it when you speak Korean. Like you said, you seem to be more talkative and have a personality that's charming and sweet. Not that your English is bad or uninteresting but I prefer the Korean version. I am fluent and live in Korea and I'm very impressed by your journey.

Thank you so much! I can honestly feel my personality changing when I switch languages, not in a bad way but it’s so interesting and fascinating. The more languages you learn, the more of a well-rounded person you become. I also feel like it depends a lot on the culture of the language you’re speaking

your comment about watching unscripted versus drama/movies makes a lot of sense. I think it doesn't matter terribly at the beginner-intermediate level because scripted is clearer and easier to understand but once one can, moving on to chaotic real korean is better ^^

As a native Korean myself, born and raised in Korea, I guarantee that this lady speaks perfect Korean, with no accents or awkward expressions whatsoever. (If any Korean gets to talk with her over the phone, I bet he/she won't notice that she's a foreigner.) .... And this frustrates me, who has learned English literally throughout my entire life and still sounds terrible when speaking in English. (I think this lady is either born talented in picking up languages, extremely smart in general, or both. Otherwise, you're going to end up feeling deeply depressed.)

I've gotten conversational in two foreign languages and really want Korean to be the third but I'm wondering if it will ever happen. I'll give the talking to myself in Korean suggestion a try. It's been suggested to me over and over and I try it but never stick with it much. I did self talk in German/Japanese but I didn't force it. I was just that motivated that I even talked to myself in those languages.

It’s a really good option if you have no one to talk to in those languages. It took a long time for me as well but if you keep doing it I believe that you can do it too :)
