We look at the grail comics, “hidden gems” that might in a long box at the local comic shop and must-haves for any comic fan’s collection. We also tap into the larger knowledge base of the comic book community during frequent live streams were we interview collectors that have been in the hobby for a few months to a few decades.
There are very few places on the internet (or elsewhere) where tons of quality comic book information is gathered in one place.

I would advise not selling to a comic shop. You’ll get far less than selling on your own. Same for dealers but some will give a fair amount. Comic shops no way.

I agree about not selling to comic shops. Over 25 years ago, I sold some books to a shop that to this day I regret. I only got a third of their value. I'm sure it's no different today.

I would advise to look at all aspects/options because selling on your own involves time, scams, fees and taxes depending on the state. Example: selling a $10 game online might get me $5 in cash if I'm lucky. I can get $4 credit at my local used media store... I'm not going to put a lot of effort into making that extra $1.

I sold off my original collection in the 90's and man do I regret it now.

Exactly right. Happened to me in 2016 to 2017 when I thought I was leaving the hobby. Sold the majority of my keys which included some great books including single digits superman etc. through Heritage auction. The return was good and I honestly think paid for a lot of what I have spent the previous 20 years. However, it left me with a seriously depleted collection when I decided that I did not want to leave the hobby. So I ended up using the money that I got through the Heritage sale to restock my collection and I’ve been very selective of my purchase. I also sold most of my raw comics, which were not super keys and many of my slabbed comics which were also not major keys. I’m down to 200 with 40 raw and the rest slabbed. If I do that again, I will sell the entire collection or I will sell none of it. Thanks!

Your comment about consignment , totally agree. As a buyer I’ve surely picked up several great comics at a great price from consignment sellers. But as a collector sometimes I worry that every comic is sold at a lower price than the last, might not be good for the hobby. But I do understand that this is also a down market, but need to be cautious cause they may be contributing to the trend of decline by posting it low, then the next lower, then the next one lower.

So I basically shopped, and made offers on mycomicshop and cleaned them out lol 😂 got the weapon x books, already had 181 but debating how high of a grade to go on a GSX1. Good discussion Regie. Do you find that those buying comic lots are more likely to buy runs of a title (e.g. Avengers 237-254) or a collection of titles that comprise a cross-over event (e.g. Evolutionary War: X-Factor Annual 3, New Mutants Annual 4...)?

I agree with the folks that recommend against going to an LCS. I had a Fantastic Four #3 and a dealer offered me $600 for it. I easily sold it for $1500. Just one example but...

Thx Regie, very informative video as always! If I were to add another option for sellers, I'd say friends n' family are not a bad way to go. The books stay 'in the family' and hopefully there's more trust there :) I do have a question. Would you advise taking a photo of every page of your raw books to avoid a buyer claiming it's not as you described (assuming it was shipped with care)?

I personally have never done that but if it’s something that you think you should do, go for it. I would find that process tedious and hard to maintain for any duration. I tend to take very clear photos front, back, with closeups of all major defects. Additional, I provided a description with additional disclosures along with an estimate grade. I have sold thousands of books with zero issues. There are videos on my channel that show how to take good photos.

I only sell via my own website so I can’t speak to that. I will tell you that I’ve made purchases via Craigslist several times. Not the biggest fan of Mercari and I’ve never used Drip.

Is grading safe? I just feel like the grading companies will keep my good copy and send back something else.

I’ve graded hundreds of books and never had that happen. If this is outside of your comfort zone, I would recommend that you not do it. Alternatively, you can take multiple photos and videos of your book prior to submission so that you can compare on the other side of grading. Good luck with the decision.

Not sure that you will get major dollars for Last Ronin. The first issue seems to be capped at $210. Not sure how much you are paying but hopefully less than that. You gotta think that 84% of the graded universal copies are a 9.8s. So supply isn’t going to help with the value because there are ample copies.

Hi, Reggie; what about someone interested in trading, not selling, say, for example they have duplicate items or inventory just they don't personally like, to trade them for new items they prefer, etc

Trade are great. You need to determine if it a straight up trade (value for value) or if the dealer wants value plus. From there, you need to agree on a pricing service or guide so you are looking at apples to apples. Determine value for all of the items. Is there a value gap? Can it be closed with cash or an additional item. Note: If you are trading raw books you’ll need to determine grade then value. It’s pretty straightforward. The only issue tends to come with agreeing to the right pricing service.

I've sold product on eBay for years, and I don't recommend selling high dollar items on there, they make it way too easy for buyers to rip off sellers..

A dealer will try to create margin for themselves by taking the value of the comic down 20-30% so they pay you 80-70%. This video was released a while ago. Given where the market is now I’m not exactly sure what they are doing.

Back in 2019 I took 14 old and in good shape (in protectors), that had been in my home in a safe box. No joke the guy said "$20". For ALL of them. I don't know a ton about comics but C'MON. LoL
