To be honest I have scrapped hundreds of tons of material in my life but had no clue how to get decent prices for ewaste until today. Thank you. I actually did start filling a box of mostly motherboards, some power supplies as filler and all the ram and CPU’s I’ve been building up since 2016 to send off to board sort. Their website makes grading things easy. Most other places that take ewaste just have vague descriptions of what things are called. The pictures really help those of us who don’t know ewaste.

@@sharkscrapper it’s weird how the universe works. I randomly come across your channel yesterday, box up about $80 worth of scrap computer parts and on the way to get them shipped I come across 7 more mostly outdated low grade computer towers chilling in a dumpster. Keeping the inventory moving I guess. The computers are pretty fun to take apart.

@@sharkscrapper I think I may ask Chris about LTL shipping. Between the laptops and motherboards, I'm pretty sure I can fill a gaylord box with about 1,500 lbs. But, relying on the kindness of my neighbor for a forklift, I would need it lifted onto my truck to go weigh, then lift it off for storage until shipping, then load it again when the truck arrives to ship to Ohio. 😳😖😥 If he can get cost down to $.50 ish per pound, I may take that route.

I would personally put one kind of board in a box. I don't like to mix different kinds of boards in boxes. I would also store full boxes and ship them out when prices are good. But that's me
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
Some times I don't mix the loads. It just depends on what I have. My biz model is to keep it moving. Just like the stock market, trying to catch the highs can be challenging. And cash flow is important. I do have some "strategic" reserve of select items but usually I keep it moving.

@@sharkscrapper "each to they own". The stuff I want to keep moving is stuff I get a lot of on a regular basis. I cut the gold fingers off. Like "gold finger boards", then the big boards become medium grade boards and the gold fingers become far more valuable. I do very little depopulating these days. When I started, years ago, I thought I'd be refining the precious metals and I depopulated a lot. After some research I realize this is not cost effective for a small operation so I'm now selling all boards and do very little depopulating. Depending on the board, I might take the gold cornered BGA, socket mounted IC's and some tantalum capacitors. But this is only if they are on a lower grade board where I'm not risking lowering the value of the overall board.

40 lbs of chips might be volume limited depending on the type of chip. In other words, you many need a large box which could result in additional charges. @sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 9 ай бұрын
RAM boards are also called RAM sticks. RAM stands for Random Access Memory. A PC reads and writes to this memory when It is moving data around. But nothing is permanently stored on the RAM like it is with the Hard Drive. RAM is just a temporary place where the PC puts data that is being used. Typically a RAM stick is 133.35 mm long and 30 mm high. But there are also RAM that are half as long, typically used in lap top PCs and other RAM that is roughly half as high. You'll find RAM on a PC motherboard stuck into slots with clips on both ends to lock the RAM in place. Watch a couple of my PC tear down videos and you'll the RAM I remove.

On the reason I was posting. Was about to box up some boards and thought let me be sure there’s not something these board sort places are expecting from us.

@@chefmike8888 I'm glad you clarified that because the first part of your comment had me confused. Hopefully this video helped clear up any questions you may have had or touched on points you hadn't considered. Key points for Boardsort are make sure to include a copy of the invoice, keep the different board types separated in some way, do NOT use bubble wrap, and tape your boxes securely.

@ 😁 Thanks Shark. Yes actually I’m glad to see I can pace numerous items into one package. And the baggie as well as paper something I hadn’t considered. Thank you for the info and have a safe and happy holiday.

Do you have a video comparing boardsort to cashforcomputerscrap? If not can you comment please? Thanks.

I do not have a video on that and have never used cashforcomputer scrap. However, I have compared prices and find that Boardsort consistently pays more. I've also heard from others who have used cashforcomputers that it can take a long time to get paid.
