Regarding the suggestion to send a friend to pitch your games, be sure to ask them to be very clear about it upfront. You say publishers only care about the game, but there's some caveat to this. The meeting is also an opportunity to gauge the person you will be doing business with. In this regard, finding out you've been dealing with a proxy person afterwards is something I would regard as a big issue. This would kill trust. Otherwise, if I know about it upfront, it's OK.
