+TruthSeekingElf just some tips use a good software program like photoshop to clean up any photography or add effects. Make sure you make the photo size to the correct size as listed on this site. Its like anything very competitive but if you have the ability make a certain kind of subject that will sell well. Also become organised on your pc by putting these photo's into certain files so they are easy to find good luck.

Great video! So you think that the default price/mark up is the way to go? I’ve seen a lot of complicated calculations on what price to put in the box. Usually a lot higher than the default. Thanks 🙂
@PaintBasket3 жыл бұрын
I suggest if just starting out, use the default values to get yourself started. Initially it is a lot of work adding your artworks, descriptions, etc, so using some defaults gets you up and running quickly. Once you have everything loaded, then you can stand back and tweak the prices while still in the running to make some sales while you do. As you go along and you get more popular you may decide to increase your prices and so on.

Have you made decent sales on FAA? Do you have any advice for newbie how do I get my art to be noticed?
@PaintBasket2 жыл бұрын
The amount of sales you make will be directly related to the amount of effort you put into marketing your prints. You cannot rely on any organic sales from FAA. There are simply too many artists and too many artworks. I suggest you market your art via Instagram and Tiktok as these are currently the two best platforms for reach.

Hi Good day - Does Fine Art America charge a commission for the sale of original artwork?How is the money received for the sale of original artwork. is it received by Fine Art America? and is there a commission on transferring the money to Paypal etc. When is the money transferred by Fine Art America do they need proof that the person received the original?

When it comes to selling original artworks, FAA simply sends the lead on to you then you and the buyer arrange the sale off platform. No commission is taken or follow up from FAA.

i still don't see how you price your artwork. there is canvass print,glossy/matt, wood,metal... various sizes... 2. how do you send a Certificate of Authenticity ? How do you know who bought it ? Their emails so you can contact them for other prints? The pricing can't be random. 3. Supposing you sell the original. do you continue to sell prints ? is that good business, good ethics ?
@PaintBasket3 жыл бұрын
If you are selling an original artwork via FAA, they simply send the buyer info your way and you handle the transaction yourself. Many people do sell the original and prints, I recommend you either sell prints of an artwork or it's original. So have some artworks that are print only. I initially keep all your prices at the recommended price / profit that FAA recommends unless you are well known then you can up the price - remember all print sales cost you nothing so is all profit.

@PaintBasket7 жыл бұрын
it is unfortunately impossible to say how long as it depends on too many factors, not least of which is the right person seeing the right artwork. The big secret to selling on FAA is to send your own buyers to FAA in order to purchase. The more FAA sees your artworks are selling, the higher up it will show your artworks in their search results. It is then that you really benefit from their traffic which results in extra sales.

@PaintBasket9 жыл бұрын
+ALPHANIKE If you are selling your original artwork then the buyer will deal with you direct so you will negotiate between the two of you about the best way to exchange the money. I recommend Paypal as you both know that the money is being handled by a trusted party. If however the person lives in the same country as you then you could just get the buyer to do a bank transfer. Whichever way you choose to get paid however, always ensure the money has cleared before sending the artwork as there are scammers out there that transfer the money, then cancel the transfer after your painting has been posted and you are unable to cancel the delivery

I don't know how this might come across but should I be an artist?, what are the good and bad for being an artist?. I am 20 years old but I don't think that being an artist would make me self-sufficient. maybe I could do bits here and there but honestly I don't think I will be able to make a living from being an artist although I do have a great passion for art. my sister is herself an artist but she does not live from passive-income she has to work every week in a boring day job to earn a salary.
@PaintBasket8 жыл бұрын
+Tommy Chappell becoming a full time artist is exactly the same as starting a business. You need to run everything just like you would any other business otherwise you will not survive. This starts with ensuring people like your artworks (and by this I mean do STRANGERS love your art) - as with any business you need a good / popular product in order to earn a living. Then you need to get out there and promote the heck out of your product (artworks) in order to sell them, just like you would if you were selling any other product. If you have popular artworks, or can create popular artworks,have the passion and are prepared to run it like a business you CAN earn a good living as an artist. You will however not earn a living as an artist if you think you are going to sit in your studio creating artworks the whole day. The artists that do this are the "starving artists" you hear about.
@tommychappell63598 жыл бұрын
what would you recommend? I have some good products on my page but I don't know if they would be suitable to sell, or how to go about promoting them. (katastract - deviantart) Also because I am a graphic designer it is hard to find things to create. my art is more random and brief-driven but I don't have any particular subject in mind when creating them.
@PaintBasket8 жыл бұрын
+Tommy Chappell obviously I can't recommend anything to you as I don't know your full needs and circumstances - it would be best to chat to a career advisor about that. What I can tell you is what I think is a good possibility from what you have said above : As you are a graphic designer and your art is brief driven, then earning your main income, at least initially, as a graphic designer is the safe option as you can get a job in that direction which gives you a steady / dependable income. Then you can work on your own art on the side. When you have enough artworks you exhibit them or get them into galleries. As your art becomes more popular, you find yourself a part time graphic design job to allow you to build up the art side more. As it grows, you can then eventually drop the part time job. Check out this other video of mine as well : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHibmaCnr6eYqK8 it has more info in it

Ok if you have a natural talent for this dont do what I did and hide it away and work in a job you do not enjoy there is an enourmous amount of jobs out there you can do with getting a degree. Yes start off in a studio get onto sites like this find a niche that you are good at and do it even if you only sell now and then while doing a degree later it will give you a start believe me If I was your age again I would do what I really wanted instead of sitting in an office for 20yrs and not doing what I was meant to ... you have to keep promoting your artworks on FAA. Send people to your profile as well as individual artwork pages. Remember that FAA has millions of artworks listed so cannot promote everybody. The more sales you generate from your side, the more they will promote you from their side so you get a snowball effect
@billyeast68198 жыл бұрын
if you post 100 images and they are all copyright protected, that's 6000 dollars you have invested in copyrights. Your in the red now for 6 grand and have to make 6000 dollars in net profit to break even..
@PaintBasket8 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy. I am not following what you are saying, please clarify / expand for me so I can answer correctly. To add you artworks to FAA is free. In other words to get started on FAA will cost you nothing. Copyright : If the artworks you post is your own original artwork you automatically own the copyright on that artwork. It doesn't cost money to copyright an artwork. The minute you create an original artwork, you own the copyright.
@billyeast68198 жыл бұрын
if you pay 60 dollars each for 100 images you post on FAA. you have a 6K$ investment in your work ontop of the material cost of the works. To make money selling art on FAA you must sell enough of your works to cover the material costs and the cost of copyright you have invested. Only when then these costs are met can you say you have made money.
@billyeast68198 жыл бұрын
A government Copyright proves you own the copyright to the work. Legally the burden of proof is on your side in court. If someone else copyrights your work they hold the rights to that work legally. You have to copyright what you publish to protect your rights . Posting works without copyright protection is not wise.
@PaintBasket8 жыл бұрын
Maybe it is so where you live, not where I am. Having said that, let's assume you do go through the process you mention. You would then only add as many copyright protected images as you can afford. Each image you copyright is then an investment (not an expense). You only need to invest the money once, but you can make money from that image over and over and over again, so the $60 you invested can pay itself back endless times so is still worth the effort. The remember your copyright will not be tied to FAA, but to the artwork, so you can go ahead and make prints of the artwork available on Etsy and the other multitude online stores, you can order prints and sell them at craft markets and the list goes on. In other words - start small and re-invest your profits in the beginning to keep your business growing. At the end of the day you can then even sell or license the copyright of that image to somebody else if you want.
@billyeast68198 жыл бұрын
It takes money to invest . investments are an expense. Of the 21 works I posted on FAA 16 were infringed and I had to pay my lawyer 700 dollars to get an infringer to stop using my work. So you have to weigh what you sell and what gets stolen and there is no telling what gets stolen.
@Behindstage5 жыл бұрын
its not money for nothing their paying for the skill of the creator :)
@PaintBasket5 жыл бұрын
what I meant was you did not have to do any more work to sell the print. In other words you can sell 100 prints but you only had to create one artwork :)
