Scriptures emphasizes a lot on seva (service). What is this service and how do we serve God? The question is put forward by Ashok Dhar from Delhi.
Swami Mukundananda while replying says, "seva is a expression of love. All that we have is coming from God. So when we give to Him, that becomes an expression of our love." Giving is seva and it is the dharma of the soul. If we do not accept that dhrama of seva to God, we would still be forced to serve. But in this case, we will be serving Maya.
Seva are of various kinds. There is Tamasic seva, Rajasic seva and Satvik seva. Highest of all the seva is the one done for the pleasure of God. But, how do we know what will please God? The best way is to serve God through Guru.

Very nicely explained by Swamiji on the importance of Seva and the Different kinds of Seva. He also mentioned how important is to do the seva for pleasure of God and Guru in order to progress in spiritual path. The seva can be 4 kinds, Tan, Man, Dhan, Aatma Samarpan. And we need to start with lowest seva with wealth(Dhan) and gradually we can progress to do seva with Body(Tan) then to do with Mind(Man) and finally aatma Samarpan(offering the own soul) takes place. Swamiji also gave very nice examples on Guru Govind Singh's Disciple (Bhai Kanhaya) and Jesus Christ related to this.

Why we have to serve god... Were we created to serve him ? Like Buddha said.. owning this life itself is inevitable to face pain and questions.. When some one on strs begging or needs medical aide or suffering hunger or seeking some sense of direction in life or i see animals suffering around me which needs a helping hand.... When this is the case how can I go and sit somewhere saying RAM RAM KRISHNA KRISHNA.... Ram camt come n help an women or man or animal who needs food or a young man who is seeking help but with no help he's going off path to drugs n so on... I can't ignore problems in this world and go to Himalayas and submit myself to God while i am in need here to help... What's the point leaning Vedas when it can't help a poor man feed his stomach or some injustice happening. I can't do it. I can say may be for me i need to see God thought service to others. I can't walk away to Himalayas or attempt surrender myself doing japa while I'm witnessing injustice to mother earth itself. I can do japa but service First.
