Good video. I have a cannondale with lefty front fork and by far the greatest and easiest headset to work on. Just a cartridge bearing pressed into either a aluminum cup that is pressed into the frame or directly into the frame on newer ones with built in races. No fork crown race to install on the fork or spacers or starnut to adjust. Never needs adjusting. Front wheel has no axle or cones just a cartridge bearing pressed into each side. Cannondale has the SI system down pat and worth $.

0:55 a better way of loosening the headset to remove the fork would be, with the stem still on the steerer tube and star nut bolt loose, to apply the front brake and hold it, while rocking the bike back and forth (as if you were testing the headset for any play/looseness). This will also loosen the headset so the fork can be removed.

Thanks! i do have a problem though i can't reach the caged bearings because some sort of dust seal is in the way and it won't go out! I already wrecked the top caged bearing trying to get it past the seal. Any ideas?

Great video! Thanks! I'm replacing the bearings on my Trek X-caliber 8 2016. They're all rusty. Is it possible to replace the semi-integrated set with an integrated set?

Hello, and thanks for the video. On your webpage it says this only works on spicy and zesty 214/216 and 314/316. It doesn't say that here on youtube though. Will this work on my '08 Zesty 714? Thanks!

You should pre-load the bearings by tightening the stemcap BEFORE you secure the stem. Otherwise you are simply squeezing the stemcap against a tightened stem instead of pulling the bearings into the cups.

I don't think you watched the video properly. He only tightened the stem's lower bolt temporarily to hold the forks in the frame. He then installed the stem cap, LOOSENED the lower stem bolt off, and continued as normal. You can see him specifically loosening the bolt off again at 6:45. Though I agree, this specific detail may not be noticed by most viewers and therefore mistakes could be made.

With which torque did you tighten the clamp screws?
@mlee60505 жыл бұрын
Top cap normally is about 2-3nm and stem bolts is often 5-8nm (5 or 5.5 is max for if clamping to carbon)

This is a good way to ruin a good bearing set. you never wipe a bearing with a rag, you could possiblyhave some dirt or grit on the rag and force it into the bearing and ruin a perfectly good bearing or there is already some grit in it and not remove it and end up having to buy a new bearing set and races.
