Great series of videos. Try soaking the power valve tongue in Simple Green for 5 minutes or so. It works miracles on carbon deposits (a trick I learned cleaning filthy weapons on the infantry). Then you can hit it with a green pad, wipe it clean, and rinse it off. No serious scraping required. Really makes that job a lot more pleasant.

It should be done when your top end is rebuilt. Around every 60-80 hours.

hey Jeff....Thanks for all the informative vids. I recently purchased a 2011 250xc and I have oil leaking out of my left side "control cover". Should oil be finding a way in there or is it just build up from when running? On a side not: I'm assuming it's oil. I'm colorblind but it feels like oil. I'm hoping it isn't coolant.

Can this be partially done with the top end still together? I don't wanna tear whole valve down yet but just want to make sure it's not gummed up.

Hey Jeff, I have been getting lots of black sludge under the power valve covers, similar to what ends up in the bottom of the crankcase. I noticed my side power valves have what feels like excessive play side to side in their bores, as if the hole is ovalled out. Are these supposed to be a relatively close fit? Have you seen worn out side valves with this sort of play? Thanks for any help

With the retaining plates, I did round them out because of a number of things, and you said to drill them out but I am not sure exactly how. Could you please briefly explain how this is done. I have bought hundreds of dollars worth of things of you so I expect a reply. Thanks in advance

I have a '95 KTM 250 with zero bottom end. Have the slip clutch a rev to go up slight inclines. Stalls super easy. Could power valve be stuck open? Once it hits power band it pulls great.

JD Since your bike is 23 years old the list of possible issues is long. First check the basics; compression, carburetion, etc.. It could be a powervalve issue but could also be many other things that I can't diagnose via the internet.
