Hey Guys and Gals!
In this video i give you an in depth run through of how i service my vehicle and some tips and tricks for you to service your 4x4 vehicle.
I start by putting the Toyota LandCruiser 80 series on the hoist and taking off the oil filler cap and loosening the oil filter to allow the oil to drain into the sump. After carrying out a thorough check over of the engine bay and topping up all other fluid levels under the engine bay i continue by raising the vehicle and checking for wheel bearing play. After checking over the under body and allowing the oil to drain for a while i put the sump plug back in and spin a new oil filter on and top the engine up with 10L of 15w40 oil. Then i continue to replace the front diff pinion seal and rotate the tyres on the rims then replace the front and rear brake pads and shoes. After completing the service i clean down the engine bay and go fro a road test. Now the cruiser is ready for the next 4x4 trip!! :D
With all the 4x4 off-road trips that I do in the LandCruiser it is important that i keep a tight maintenance schedule and replace and fix things as i see them. The LandCruiser has 385,000 km on it and it needed a little TLC but now i have completed all the maintenance its back and ready for another great off-road 4wd adventure.
In the LandCruiser i change the oil and filter every 5,000 km and carry out a check over of the vehicle at each service. I have not gone over every little thing you should check but i think i have listed the most important things to check whenever carrying out a service. If you have any other tips or tricks please list them in the comments and help everyone out! :D

Enjoyed you vid Nick, just a quick question re front t/shaft on my 105 series 2002 l/cruiser. Do I need to have the t/shaft in the same plane at both ends of the t/shaft. I’m assuming yes, but always best to ask.

Hey Leigh! If you take off the slip joint you should always align the universal joints to they are on the same plane when putting the slip joint back onto the shaft. 😊

@@LowRangeNick cool. So no covering up distributors or alternators? My 4Runner is dirty AF and I need to clean it ASAP.

@@TheMultisportGeek If its a diesel then you won't have to worry. If its petrol then like you said you will need to cover the distributor.

i need to do this job soon i think my flange is bend a biut and it makes the car vibrate a little at high speeds. whats the torque for the las nut on the flange?
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick 6 жыл бұрын
Its not too bad of a job. The solid pinion spacer means that you dont need to do the torque and crush the sleeve like usual. I cant remember the exact torque for the solid pinion spacer but i think it was around 150nm or so. 👍

LowRangeNick thank you for responding, yeah i know that spacer would be great, but i live in Spain and even thou i do find terrain tamer parts here i couldnt find this spacer, guess ill have to check the repair manual, thanks!!

@@jandesens6970 Thats all good. Nothing wrong with the crush sleeves just need tp make sure you torque them to the correct spec to get the right preload on the bearings. Service manual would be your best bet 😁

Hey mate, I'm assuming you work as a mechanic? I was going to get mine serviced properly at 300k which is soon and wanted someone who actually knows about 80s specifically. I live in SE QLD and would be interested in taking it to you?

LowRangeNick thanks for that, what brand oil, i shudv asked that too. im using castrol magnatec 15w40, semi synthetic, thinking of trying full synthetic
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick 5 жыл бұрын
@@grantquist8498 Castrol is good! Semi synthetic will be fine as well. For the 1hz engine you can't really go wrong. Mineral, semi or fully synthetic. As long as you find a brand you like and it is 15w40 she will keep on running! 😊😊😊
