After your video, I checked my manual for which oil I need. Purchased the same 5w-30 fully synthetic oil and removed the oil. The oil filter was too tight and I did not have that tool so stuck a pointing rod in it and turned the rod to loosen it. Cut a dry water bottle and used it as a funnel. Thanks to this video from now onwards I will save lots of money by not going to a service center. Cheers!

Great video, had accumulated the parts but wasn't sure where the pollen filter was located! I'm doing the brakes all round- OSR is a nightmare- spent yesterday (in vain) tring to wind back the caliper piston but considering the mess of the disc and pad (really uneven wear to the inside surface maybe 50% of the smaller radius) I think the caliper is actually goosed and is not applying pressure square to the disc face and is jammed, so have ordered a pair and will just change both starting with the NSR and do a fluid flush as I go. Front pads are not bad but the discs are pretty worn (not sure what the recommended thickness is) so doing all 4 corners. In your video you say the brake master cylinder services the clutch too- any advice on flushing that if I'm doing the brakes, never touched anything clutch related that doesn't have a cable!! For the oil change I always run the car beforehand to get the oil warm and runny, and on the refill use an old cut off plastic bottle for a funnel as it's always windy here in Scotland and that catches the oil as you pour and makes a right mess!!

It is a good practice to replace the copper washer or O-ring each time, although not always necessary. In the video it is a copper washer resealed with red hermetite.

@fixdatcar7281
@fixdatcar7281 4 жыл бұрын
@@meliksahtolunaygurcu3100 If it is an "O" ring it'll be inset into a groove on the inside of the drain plug flange. Alternatively it may be a copper (or aluminium) washer. - If yours was missing I'd suggest you check for leakage. If it has sealed OK leave it for now, but make sure to buy a new washer to use next time you change the oil.

Question why do some mechanics recommend you should throw clean oil in the oil filter
@fixdatcar7281
@fixdatcar7281 11 ай бұрын
When an engine is started on a new filter there is a very short period of low oil pressure, some people think this can be mitigated by pre-filling the filter. In my opinion changing a filter is messy enough without also spilling fresh oil. I think the gains of pre-filling are negligible.

My 2016 i10 has only done 28000 miles but is obviously out of warranty. My garage wants over £200 for a service and MOT but I only do 3000 miles a year. Is it worth me trying this myself, considering I won't get a service stamp in my book which might reduce the value at the time I come to sell it on? Any advice on this angle please?

Thanks for that video, I have the exact same car. I feel like, I would be that daughter as I am a woman at least. A couple of questions: can I use vaseline to smear the new oilfilter? If not, which oil to buy? Do I have to buy a chainwrench? (an object I have never seen before) or can I use anything else. Any ideas as how I flush the coolingsystem as well. 😊
@fixdatcar7281
@fixdatcar7281 Жыл бұрын
Don't use vaseline anywhere on a car it can break down under heat or pressure. The oil for your car will be 5-30 fully synthetic. smear the seal with a drop of this before screwing on. The filter will be too tight to remove by hand, but there are many types of wrenches you can buy. For antifreeze replacement please see my other video on water pump replacement where I drain and refill coolant

Hello sir, what about engine flush isit necessary?
@fixdatcar7281
@fixdatcar7281 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. I'm not a fan of engine flushing as at least some of the substandard flushing oil is left behind. Instead I advocate 5000mile (8000km) oil changes for prolonged engine life. If your old oil is very dirty consider a double oil change at an interval of 100miles(160km) instead. This will be better than flushing.

5w30 full synthetic is good or 5w40
@fixdatcar7281
@fixdatcar7281 3 жыл бұрын
Either can be fine as fully synthetic. I just stick to the recommended viscosity in the handbook. These days usually 5w30. I wouldn't lose any sleep if I'd used 5w40 by mistake.

I always use the manufacturer recommended oil which is generally 5-30 fully synthetic for petrol engines these days. A 15/40 should be fine though.

@@UK00009 Your car handbook will tell you in the specifications section under "recommended lubricants". Some thing like API SM or above? ACEA A5 or above? These will be on the small print of the container the oil comes in.
