After following your video, my GS550 runs much better! Very grateful for your clear explanation!

I remember setting the points/timing on small 70s two stroke twins. It was a nightmare of a job, and if you didn't get it absolutely spot on you ended up with a hole in your piston!

got my first project bike an "83 Kawasaki KZ 550. I plan on using the fork shortening "clip" and possibly the one about building a battery box as well. I'm commuting on it for now, but as soon as the first serious snowfall comes here in Appalachain Mts. of NC I'm going to start tearing it down. thanks for the info

a quick question, If I found a vintage fuel tank (bigger bulkier more square-ish) would the mounting "apparatus" most likely work/lineup or would it most likely have to be adapted? my guess is that it varies widely?
@forthebold7 жыл бұрын
+Colin Patience without seeing the tank or frame, i would bet that you'd need to modify the mounts. If the length of the tank is same as the original it would be a good start, but it's never impossible.

hey hey good video thx. i hve a question, i have a suzuki gs 750 78' and i just buy a new contact point because the old ones were realy bad. i set the 1 and 4 cylinder and dthen i wanted to set the other two and there is no complete circle when the contact point close! and i notice that the coil ( i dont know if this is right in eaglish) for the 2 and 3 cylinder is heating up! maybe some advice? thx
@forthebold6 жыл бұрын
mitja ogorevc there are 2 screws to independently adjust the timing of 2 and 3 along with measuring gaps. Have you tried that? If the coil heats up it sounds like it's stuck on that coil. I find it happens when I'm measuring my timing and on that coil for a long time
@picipokl6 жыл бұрын
hej thx for reply. yes i tried that and is no electicity, i will change the wires maybe there is a problem>

Before you do check incase the wires in the coil are being pinched, I had that and it was shorting out.

Is the firing for that bike AFTER top dead center? To me it seems like your turning the engine backwards. I have never seen a engine with ignition AFTER top dead center. I would expect it to be somewhere between 10-20 degress BEFORE top dead center. But not all engines are built equally and this could be different.
@forthebold7 жыл бұрын
You're very correct, the firing of this engine is before the TDC, just watched it back and it does sound wrong when I say it's after, it was only after the way I was rotating it when looking for the mark.

Can you tell me why my light is burning constantly when I connect it like you did while turning the bolt?

Sounds like your points aren’t opening and closing. Or even connecting a little sooner in the wiring than it needs to be. Where there’s a constant live feed.

So when the light is off that's were to set, and when the light goes on don't set
@forthebold5 жыл бұрын
When the light is on that means there’s a contact and a signal going to the coils. So that’s where it needs to be set. On the cusp of making a contact.

You're doing it wrong. The engine turns clockwise. Try using the kick starter, you'll see. Your adjustments are all off because of that
@forthebold2 жыл бұрын
Doesn't really make a difference as you're adjusting them to the markers, regardless of direction of turning the points the markers still line up tdc and retarded and advanced settings.
