I don't want to over-rev but I do want to operate at the top power curve hp. under load It's a mud motor long tail set up. Since this is a very common motor series and the gov. set up seems the same for the whole series is it too much to ask for a video on how to set the gov and speed to achieve max hp under load? You could probably borrow one they are very common. Lots of people want to know this on youtube lthey want to go faster safely. thanks, I just subbed.

Hey Steve great video with simple instructions! Unfortunately I followed them exactly and my engine revved to the moon… I have the same exact engine for my pressure washer and my solution was to tighten down the lever all the way to the LEFT and the shaft all the way clockwise, this solved my over revving issue but what I did is opposite of your instructions, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
@heavysnow86165 жыл бұрын
Usually you rotate the governor shaft in the same direction you push the governor lever. In this video Steve pushed the governor lever to the right to ensure no slop in the linkages in the WOT position. He then turned the governor shaft clockwise. When you are done you should be able to push the linkage and there should be no binding, you will feel spring resistance. If your binding, adjust the shaft in the opposite direction. Always check your manual for what your working on. If you get it wrong the engine will race-shut it down immediately!!!

Great video steve, I have a question may sound silly as I know this can't be done on the brigs and Stratton without modifications to the internals for the oil to get around the engine, but can the Honda engines with OHV be run on their side or horizontal as I see the engine on this pressure washer I assume it is? Looks like the same engine in have that's off a Honda lawnmower! Don't have the lawnmower I bought the engine with a second one as they were with the parts off the lawnmower like blade and drive, but rest had rusted out! So anyway I'm thinking can this engine be turned on its side and fitted to a cheap power washer so I have a Honda pressure washer basically!!?? Or even a Rotivator with a side mount or horizontal mount!? I've a ton of mowers I was going to sell but missed the second year window due to health issues but I've no rotavator to sort my garden with a bad back and I've no pressure washer and as I can't work following a spine op, so I'm skint and I was hoping I could pick up a cheap pressure washer and Rotavator and fit the 2 X Honda engines I have, whether they be horizontal or vertical position on the rotavator and /or pressure washer if I say pick one up that engine not working, or perhaps even a cheap new one and swap it for teh Honda engine, given the engine looks to be the same!!?? If I can do that, I can use em and possibly even sell em on after at a profit given they Honda or at least break even hopefully so I don't lose money and can sort my back garden out!? (Obviously I'm aware I'd probably have to sort the carb position 90degrees if it's gravity fed!) But more concerned 1 will it fit no modifications to mounts, 2. Will it run in either position and 3. Importantly, get oil supply round engine, so it doesn't blow up and seize!! 4. Any other advice you have being the small engine wizard that you are Steve! Lol.. Also both engines are slightly different one is a 5.5hp or 5hp can't remember looks like this one! and other one slightly smaller but both OHV Hondas just one slightly more powerful look longer and bigger on the red cover if you know what I mean.. might be just older version perhaps might be one off an Izzy and one off a bigger mower perhaps?? Thanks for any advice you can offer!! Big fan here in London England! Cheers! 👍💪😎🏴 Ps. Good beer! 👍😁😎

Brilliant Steve, thanks a million. I applied your method to a Homelite HL454SP mower which had a screaming over-revving problem, over here in the U.K. Amazingly, it did not cure it. But you had given me the confidence that I'd set the lever arm correctly. It made me look elsewhere. Eventually I spotted that a sharp edge of the control arm was fouling the PVC sheath of the throttle/choke control cable. I used a cable tie to re-route this cable well clear. Great, docile running again. But I could not have done it without you. The manual was useless. This problem makes me think. On some machines, cables flap about all over the place and doubtless can cause a variety of problems when they foul controls. Have you found that? And do owners try to tie them down, provoking further trouble? I imagine many mowers have hit the garbage dump because of this. Is there scope for a KZbin video on taming the control cable snakes?
