Great video! This will help me so much!!! I found a faster way for the math though. Instead of multiplying at the end and using trial and error to find the drag setting, just divide the line/leader strength by your first number (max reel drag/# of drag settings). That will give you your drag setting straight away.

Interesting. Fished all my life and never knew these facts about optimal reel/rod/line- setup. Makes a lot of sense when you go for heavy fish of course. I once got a 10 kg pike on a lightweight rig and tiny spinner by accident. It broke my reel straight from the get-go and I had to get it tired and pull it in by hand. Which took me a while, but I succeeded. So, you are saying that if the line would have been the weakest link on my rig, that would have snapped first and not the reel. Makes a lot of sense. But why does the reel need to be stronger than the rod. What's the idea behind that?

Using a 7.7kg max drag reel with a 10kg max line weight rod is absolutely fine, your biggest mis-match is using 4.5kg line with a 7.7kg max drag reel. With that reel you should be using at least 0.14" flouro which has 6.8kg breaking strain. The most important combo to balance is line and reel.

You should have put the SE reel on the 11kg rod and the regular 6000 on the jigwinner

Not sure i get you... Unless you mean i could have put the Big River 6000 SE (max drag 8.15) on the 10kg rod, until i levelled up enough to buy a bigger reel? And then put the reel that was on that rod, the Big River 5000 (max drag 7.7), onto the JigWinner? If so, yeah i could have done that. Not sure if i saw that at the time or not, was a while ago now. Hopefully the purpose of the video still makes enough sense!

This actually isn't right... Your line should be weaker than you rod, but stronger than your reel, so you can use max drag

I think she is saying that if something breaks it should be the line and not one of the other two. This makes it possible for you to reel in fish with ease and minimum wear on your rod, reel and line. So, her angle is to save money on gear in the long run. Will try your idea out though. I like to use max drag to speed up the catch.
