How to set the Castle ESC for Telemetry

I’ll show you how to enable the Live Link function in the Castle software which then sends telemetry data via the telemetry link connect. I actually took mine out and forgot to disable the live ink which cost me a flying session.

Matt, do NOT update the firmware, the Xpwr motors need to run on 4.22 firmware only 👍🏼

I just bought a plane that has a xpwr 30 in it and they guy said he flew it a handful of times and just wasnt his thing. I flew it yesterday without problem. I was changing settings on the phoenix hv80 and noticed that he had already updated to 4.25. What problems does 4.25 cause that requires us to have to use 4.22?

I only have a small EF Extra 45" with an Edge 50 ESC but even with such a small plane I programmed a transmitter switch that will arm the ESC only after I flip that switch back and forth. That way I have some added safety to avoid arming the ESC unintentionally and having a live throttle just by plugging the battery in. I think CC started to sell some arming security device to address the same concern. Cheers!

That's a nice idea. I've started setting up throttle cuts on all my electric (and gas) models now.

By the way thanks for the hint in your video, a few days ago I just plugged the CC Telemetry kit into an ESC and the telemetry did not work with my Futaba 16IZ. So you saved me some searching 🙂 Also I am now wondering if the ESC would still work without that configuration change - if it was plugged into an SBus2 slot and not into Slot3 on the Rx which I guess is an PCM/Sbus connector but not necessarily Sbus2... OK my telemetry stuff is a longer term project, so I am not in a hurry, I will only start migrating from my old Futaba 8FG to the new 16IZ after some warmup flights with the old TX, in the next few weeks.

Hi, I'm glad you managed to save yourself some time with my video! I'm not sure if it would still work by pugging into SBUs2, I'm pretty sure you will still need to set the ESC. Let me know if you ever try it!

9:00 You mention having the "brake" enabled on another plane that the ESC blew up in mid flight... I bought a plane built by my friend and never flown last December. Finally go a chance to fly it last week. The ESC blew up in mid flight. I think I've bought my last Castle Cremation ESC. I did one trimming flight and one second flight. Ah man so sorry to see your Extra in bits. I do have other Castle ESCs but have NEVER enabled the break feature, it’s not worth the risk. If you’re using an XPWR motor then it’s recommended to not use the latest firmware for the Castle ESC. I think the firmware you want is something dot 22. I can look it up if it’s helpful.

@@MattTakharRC I put the talon 90 and xpwr 22 on a U Can Do that I converted to electric.(video available) So far no problems. I have the same set up in a Carl Goldberg Ultimate Biplane conversion (video coming) Maiden also coming soon.

You should NEVER do any programming of esc radios etc with the propeller on. Even more so on a stand with the transmitter on the other side of a the model NO Exceptions. None

@Matt Takhar RC looking back I overreacted abit. Just take the time and get that prop off you never know. Especially in that tight place by yourself with nobody around. Great project tho:)
