Really well done! But I have a question: When I push my turret cap back on, it will only go down to just past the "2 horizontal line"...it leaves the "1 line" and the "zero line" showing...shouldn't it push ALL THE WAY DOWN to the "down arrow"? What did I do wrong?

It most likely won't go all the way down, since you have zero'd your rifle. Those lines and numbers don't mean anything at all, if you have the zero stop set.

Those lines mean everything. I have the same problem. Now I only have 15 mils of elevation instead of 30mils as advertised.

​@@rc51price Total available amount of elevation is dependent on several things, such as yardage you zero, amount of cant in scope base, ring height, etc. For ex: on my 22LR, I have 1.53" rings and 60moa of cant in my base/rings. This allows me a 35y zero and gives me 33 mils of UP. However, if I change to lower rings (same cant MOA), my zero would go farther out and total available UP would go down.

Canted rails. 10, 20, 30 moa cants built into the rail. Will recover that much in elevation travel

Other than removing unwanted grease, there's not much can be done about the volume. Honestly, I think people get too wrapped up in if they can hear the clicks or not. Personally, I care more about feeling them vs hearing them. But that's just me.

I really like the Ares ETR. I ran one all this past PRS season and didn't have 1 issue. None. That said, I can't give you an honest answer regarding your 50 cal.

I'd recommend buying the Athlon Cronus BTR for your 50 cal. It's better quality since it's made in Japan and not China where the Ares ETR are made. I'd recommend at least Japan made scopes or USA made Leupold or European made Meopta as long it's not Chinese made for durability and reliability for your caliber rifle. All of my Chinese made scopes are specifically used on my smallest caliber guns and 22LRs since I don't want to go through the hassle of always having to send them in for warranty everytime they break and wasting time and ammo diagnosing inaccuracy problems finding out it's the Chinese scopes and not the gun all that time.

If you plan to spend $1200 (what the Athlon Ares ETR typically sells for), I wouldn't recommend buying anything made in China regardless of what caliber rifle you shoot. For that kind of money you can buy a Meopta Optika 6 which is made in Europe with glass and durability that's far superior to any Chinese made scopes. You can also afford the Zeiss V4 and Sightron SIII when shopping around for best prices. I have several of the Japan made Sightron SIIIs 6-24x50, 8-32x56 and 10-50x60 which are proven reliable scopes starting from only $600 and up.

Thanks a mill for this video, Rich. I had no idea how to do that. Just got my scope recently and hadn't gotten to that part yet. Just seated it on the rifle this morning. This video will help me greatly for once I'm zero'd in. Looks like you're using the Warne Maxima rings, too. Yes/no? I have the same ones in the high model. The 222M's. If that's what you have, how do you like them? I have a virgin build here. Can't wait to get on it and get some rounds downrange. My first bolt-action.

Glad the video helped! Honestly, I can't remember for sure which rings, as this was on a customers rifle. I, typically, only use Warne or Leupold rings when I mount a scope. Just not sure which model these were. BTW, you're gonna be impressed with Athlon scopes. $ 4 $, you can't beat them.

IMPORTANT REPLY directly from ATHLON: The position of the protrusion on beneath the turret can be in any position, and is not always in the same spot. In the video, he is referring to the 11 o’clock position assuming the bump/protrusion is in the 12 o’clock position. The dove tail on the zero stop ring is the part that needs to always be a 11 o’clock in comparison to the 12 o’clock protrusion on the scope.

Yep. We are an Athlon dealer and really like the Ares ETR line. May wanna get the Aers BTR while you can, though. They have discontinued the BTR line. Once they are off the shelves, they are gone forever. The ETR, however, is still available. And will continue to be.

@@Matt-xy6cf I also bought 3 of the Ares BTRs (gen "1.5") now they have the gen2 out, which is the reason for the sale it would seem. The 2.5-15X are still $400 at midway but the 4.5-27X are all sold out at the discounted price. I am glad I was able to snag one of those up. The "gen 1.5" models have a better feel to the turrets than the originals and they get even better if you remove the orings from the turret caps.

No. If you are referring to being able to have .5 - 1.0 available BELOW zero. If you want to have that: Zero rifle, turn turret cap UNDER zero to desired amount (I personally go .5 under), then set zero stop collar as shown in video. Remember when installing the turret cap, to set it to your desired amount of under. Make sense? Kinda hard to explain. lol

@@rdtaguestudios I’m talking about up travel. I have the Midas Tac and if I set zero stop, I’m limited to about 13.5 mils of up travel only, without the zero stop set i can use all the up travel there is
