My pool filter sand is white in color, but its grain is coarse and with some little pebbles, is that ok? I have also poured in the same tank prior two 20lb bags worth of African cichlid substrate, so you can see it on the bottom and the pool filter sand on top. The African cichlid substrate has some really small volcanic rock pieces.

Aqueon Heaters are garbage. I purchased about 12 over a two year period and 25 percent of them either failed to work or overheated the tank after about a year. If you want a quality heater get an Ehiem heater, they were great 30 years ago and they are still great today.

i agree that heaters should not be shorted on, but i had the aqueon pro and had 3 go bad; all for different reasons (1st water into the heating chamber, 2nd heater temp wouldn't turn on unless set to 80, 3rd would never turn on) so before i went to marineland and it's night and day in the quality. Just my opinion

Do you ever get a 10 - 15 minute panic mode once you put them in a new tank? I just moved one of my goldfish last night into a larger tank and watching her/his reaction and darn near panicked when at first it didn't seem to be reacting well. I was like, "Oh my god did I just kill my fish?!" lol. But all is well. Just took a few minutes before he/she realized there was a LOT more room to roam!
