I liked that you actually explained the ports behind the keyboard. Do you have any recommendations for USB cables and also speakers to use when you don't want to use your computer speakers or headphones? And how do you connect an IPad to the kayboard? I have an Ipad12 Pro for reference. I got a Q88 Alesis Keyboard for Christmas and I am lost... It came with a really short USB cable that is not usable for my setup. I also wanted to plug it in and just play but realized pretty quick that I needed speakers as it didn't have onboard speakers. I understand I need to hook it up to a computer and download software and such but I need tips for how to set up both my IPad and have speakers to be able to enjoy playing how I would like. Maybe a USB hub of sorts? IDK lol someone help! lol

So they renamed the Axiom 49 to 61? This is my interpretation because the keyboard I have looks exactly like yours. The only difference is that it says 61 and not 49. All these years, I've hooked it up to ableton and fl studio, trying to figure out why I couldn't get the buttons to work besides the piano keys. I stumble upon your video. --- adding to this comment, I'm high to, and I JUST REALIZED IT'S CALLED AXIOM 49 AND 61 BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF KEYS OMG. --- Originally bought the 61 because of a course I was taking in college. Really liked the weight of the keys.

I bought a dual midi cable with a red and black midi cable connected...Are they both the same thing? I though I was buying two midi cables, but they are connected, can I just pull them apart and use both of them as a single midi cable?
@wl2003983 жыл бұрын
It is meanr to be connected to two devices which both use the 5 pin connectors, on one side, one of them should be a MIDI out cable and the other a MIDI in cable. The way it works for the 5 pin connectors is that one cable outputs MIDI data (so data from your controller and such) to an input device (such as an audio interface that has the 5 pin connectors) and vice versa These days we have usb midi like on the digital piano I had which makes things slightly easier but some also come with the 5pin connectors, you might even find some with a MIDI through port. Since it is a MIDI to MIDI cable (so two 5 pin connectors on both ends) -Plug the out (output) cable to the MIDI out port on your synth and then take the other end and plug in the MIDI in (input) cable to the MIDI in port on your other device. Next, do the same for the other cable so plug in the other MIDI in cable to your MIDI in port on your synth and then take the other MIDI out end and plug it into the MIDI out port on your device. Hope this helps If you are using an audio interface that has the old MIDI Ports (the 5 pin ones that he shows in 3:20) then yiu can connect your synth to the audio interface in the way I've described Some MIDI controllers and synths may also have a MIDI through port. The MIDI through port is also a MIDI out port but it only outputs MIDI from the MIDI in. I'll put a link to a video that explains this Hope this helps

I have an important question, because it will determine whether I need a soundcard with midi in and out, or not... I already have a midi interface for my keyboard (midi in - out to USB), which works fine when connected to my laptop, but because I don't have an external sound card, the latency when I record is of course huge!!So I am wondering, *if I buy a sound card with mic /line inputs only, connect it to my computer, and selected as preferred sound card on my DAW, is it going to reduce the latency while I record my midi keyboard also? Despite the fact that the keyboard won't be directly connected to the sound card?* Also, my keyboard has only one mono output, and I don't intend to use its audio signal to connect it to sound card as a result. Thanks for your time reading my question! If anyone could help, I would appreciate it much!

Yeah they should do. You can get a MIDI cable to MIDI or a MIDI to usb that can allow you to connect to devices. Because it only has a MIDI out, it can only output MIDI information to another device and not recieve. Some keyboards/synths/controllers have both the MIDI out and MIDI in ports

Sorry, but you video didn't take me any further! Everywhere I look, either by reading or by watching videos about MIDI and connecting devices, it's like first explaining what MIDI is (thank you, I know that by now!) and then a lengthy explanation on how to connect the keyboard with the computer, with a PC of course and all that driver stuff, and all works fine! However, no one seems to ever be in a situation wanting to play the DAW plug-in stuff AND an external hardware synth (without keys!) with only ONE keyboard! And of course the manuals of every single device shows a different MIDI and USB connection! This starts to drive me crazy!!!
@Beatstruggles Жыл бұрын
Thanks because an external hardware synth or sound module is out dated. The new way is to use a MIDI Keyboard and a Virtual Instrument. It allows you to save your projects and recall them easily.. it's just a workflow thing. You'd need to get MIDI Cables, then you can select "patches" by changing the program number I think.. never done it before.

The drivers are for the laptop then it shows up in Fl Studio or any other software. He can if he wants use the five pin midi din and plug that into the back of the Focusrite 2i4 and choose midi from inside midi settings in Fl Studio. He can also get a midi to usb and plug his controller in that way. Hope this helps.
