Not going to be rude but i have heard and seen that mirrors are not good for any birds health and social life, they can get addicted and stop wanting to play with any bird or person. Anyway you have lovely birds hope the best for you and your birds.
@FlockofFive7 жыл бұрын
Hi IXJ, not rude at all, and a good thing to point out. Yes, it happens more commonly among budgies and Indian ring necks but you can never be too careful. The mirror-like looking toy in the video is actually not a perfect mirror (I know, it is hard to tell from the video) and it reflects back grossly morphed images - she loves it because it is something shiny she can spin, but I can understand how some birds prone to such behavior can still become "attracted" to it. So far she has yet to show any attachment to it. Either way, it is a good tip for new bird owners - mirrors can encourage mating behavior with the mirror, disrupting bonding with other fids/ parront

I have a 40 year old Female Red Lored Amazon who has a mirror behind her cage its been there all most all her life. She will talk to the bird in the mirror then go off and work with me in my office for the rest of the day, she talks a lot and plays with her toys, Parrots need to stay busy or the will just sit in front of a mirror and forget about toys or people that around them. Remember Parrots are like children you need to keep them busy.

There’s two things that I really don’t think you should do. Mirrors and having more than 3 toys in a small cage is not good. Mirrors can cause anxiety and makes them think they have friends. Having two much toys makes them sometimes pluck feathers and get sad. They can’t stretch out their wings and relax. Just some tips for your beautiful birds

I also think their cages are too small, if anything the minimum. As a minimum cage size for a GCC (green cheek conure) is 31 x 21 x H I'm adopting a GCC soon. I am getting a large cage and I think I'm going to be getting 5-7 toys, as variety is actually good. Their cage should have 5 at most, 3 would be ok but they would have to be changed regularly to offer a large variety. I too noticed a few unsafe things in the video. But I generally think their doing alright. The first cage really made me cringe, that shape itself is unsafe.
@FlockofFive4 жыл бұрын
Luke_, we actually have a surplus of toys. It's definitely not the case that every toy goes in there. There's a method to it and the birds enjoy it very much.

@FlockofFive7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Oh my, congratulations! There are a million answers to that question, and it depends a lot on the bird's temperament, your pre-existing relationship with the bird (if any), and how hand tame he/she is already. It takes a lot of patience (it can take anywhere from 1 week to months for a bird to be completely comfortable with you), but going step by step and taking it slow usually can get you very far :). @FlockofFive5 жыл бұрын
The most important thing to consider is bar spacing - it should be smaller than the broadest part of your Grey’s head. This is to prevent your grey from getting his or her head stuck between the bars. As long as the bar spacing is alright, bigger the better!

@freetexwatsonstudios20225 жыл бұрын
JayDream Animations Most people have their birds out for most of their waking hours so a nice large bird cage like this is better than good. A $1,500 cage would be too big and the bird would get lost. Macaw cages are not recommended.
@cadence59245 жыл бұрын
But then how come they live in 300,00 mile long forests?
@freetexwatsonstudios20225 жыл бұрын
They don’t live in the whole forest. They are guided by a flock. In captivity you are the flock. If they had a macaw they would buy a macaw cage but they have 2 small parakeets so they bought large parakeet cages.
@cadence59245 жыл бұрын
Ah ok that makes more sense
@FlockofFive4 жыл бұрын
A Maccaw cage would be dangerous for a conure. The bar spacing is too large and the conure could get her head stuck between the bars and die. It's really not recommended. The birds do get plenty of out time and coupled with a good cage layout, the space is fine for a conure. There are larger cages (not Maccaw) that could be used as well with safer bar spacing, but it's not needed if they get sufficient out time.
