Here is a video showing you how we assembled and set up Bella, our African Grey parrot's, new cage. We talk about our choice of cage, perches, toys and placement of food bowls. We hope that you find this useful!
Link for cage: www.amazon.ca/...
Don't forget to subscribe and let us know what you would like to see on our next video!
All three of our birds have similar models of cages by Prevue. Bella's cage is 36x24 inches, Lemons is 24x20 inches. Happy's is 18x18 inches. All cages includes built in safety features and are easy to clean. The parrots have many perches and ladders to stand on and plenty of toys to play with and we show you how we arranged them for Bella.

I had a budgie a little bit ago that I got from a 4 year old, he was in a decent sized cage but only ate seed and only had flat perches. I wish I’ve done research before he passed but I’m trying to collect as much information as possible. I’ve always said I wanted a more loving bird in the future, I have a 3-1/2 by 3-1/2 by 6-1/2 ft chicken pen, I was looking into a cockatiel but I know I’m not getting a bird anytime this year so I’ve started research on common pet parrots, I’ve fallen in love with african greys but I know that you need a LOT of prep, time, and you have to be patient as they are little 4 year olds that just want to play and be loved. It feels stupid saying I’ve gone from a budgie to an African grey but I am not getting any sort of large bird like that without full preparation

Please don't use a chicken pen for a parrot as the chicken wire is toxic to parrots. When you decide what kind of bird you would like then invest into a good cage. Perhaps an Indian ringneck would be a perfect fit for you, they are very personable, friendly, and can be exceptional talkers and love to cuddle.

great video just a word of warning, african greys see in uv spectrum so the colour red is actually quite an negative and aggressive colour to them, my vet explained this to me :)

Sadly most of them aren't big enough on Amazon for any medium or large bird's. I have this exact cage from Amazon and it's a cheap cage with horrible locking mechanisms and where the food and water bowls go should slso be much more secure. We just moved ours into a large King's cage, which costs more than the cheap one's that Amazon offers. Our Grey was able to bite through the cheap metal that the cage is made out of. Thankfully we saw this within a short time of Dude doing so and were able to pull a King's cage I purchased for a B&G & a 2nd for a Hyacinth Macaw. We were lucky that the cage bars were close enough to house our African Grey in.

Thanks a lot for the video as it was highly helpful. I looked everywhere (Websites, KZbin and cage shops etc.) for the perfect cage for my African Grey and then I landed on your video and I must say it's the perfect design I was looking for. I will have it tailor-made according to the measurements to fit into my space but the structure will remain the same. I wish you and your birds the very best, thanks once again....

She's absolutely beautiful. She reminds me of my Dude, an African grey. This is the same cage we got with our African Grey from Amazon & it's not big enough for a CAG to be honest. It needs to be at least a full foot to foot & 1/2 wider than what it is. Even though it looks like it's large enough for an African grey, it's not. I have an XL & Large King's cage, both housed B&G & a Hyacinth Macaw & am planning on moving our CAG into the Lg King's cage so he has more room to fly inside the cage also. Please watch other bird videos when you're considering buying a bird, a new cage, and toys, especially perches. You should never keep wooden dowels in the cage unless you cut them grooves or wedges into them. Never leave them in the cage without scrapping them up and making them to where the bird will feel stable on. Also, don't use any pumice stone or concrete purchases like she's recommended. They are not recommended and cause severe foot issues for your bird. You need only natural wood perches, a great corner flat perch where the bird can relax and stand erect and give their feet a rest. You can get a pumice perch with the pumice on just the side so they don't get bumble foot, or nerve damage to their feet.

We are looking at a very similar cage for our African Grey. How does Bella find getting up to the playground at the top? Do you need to help her up there or can she climb up herself? Ours is not clipped but will want to climb independently.
@FlockofFive
@FlockofFive 4 жыл бұрын
Bella never had any difficulty getting to the top of the cage, including the ladder and the long wooden dowel on top. We were considering removing the top ladder and dowel because she used to have some behavioral issues with height dominance, but she grew out of it and we have left it there. At this point in time she doesn't really go up to the top dowel anymore and prefers using the sides of the cage to climb around and the flat part of the playtop. She has really taken to climbing around the whole cage.

Good lord her nails are WAAaaaay too long! That has to be painful! Purchase a good sized natural lava rock stone and mount it in the cage....it really helps keep their nails down naturally with out having to file them down yourself.

@FlockofFive

Of course! Many vets recommend no more than 30% of diet as chop and snacks. 70% of the diet should be pellets.
@ellarenee431
@ellarenee431 5 жыл бұрын
Hello! So i know this was a long time ago and i know that she has already responded, but something i reccomend is sprouts. I give my green cheeked conure chop in the morning, sprouts for lunch, pellets for dinner. He has seeds and nuts as treats. In his chop he will have a few greens, a few orange vegies and something else. Every second day he will get fruit. It is very high in sugar so i do not reccommend giving fruit daily. I also give him sprouts as it is completely packed with nutritional value, i highly reccomend it. For pellets, it really depends what brand of pellet. High quality pellets can be absolutely amazing amd packed with good nutrition, vitamins and minerals. But some pellets have added sugars and other terrible stuff that can be just as bad as feeding seeds. I still do not reccomend giving them too many pellets - even if they are an amazing brand, as i believe that sprouts and chop are still much better, yet at the same time pellets can be just as good and nutritional. Now i know all you asked was how much to give your bird but i thought it would be nice to see someone elses birds diet, so you can weigh out your options to really decide what you want to do for your bird (or future bird😆). For the amount, i give my bird about 50% pellets, 50% of everything else. So 3 teaspoons of chop in the morning, 2 teaspoons of sprouts for lunch and about 5 teaspoons of pellets at night. Remember the importance of foraging too. Good luck😊😉
