Thanks. I just inherited one with a tank. It was manufactured in 2014. I hear that they have a long life. Thanks for posting.

Wow for a whole month I had the filter cartridges in the wrong place and was wondering why my tank needed so many water changes and wasn't filtering the way it should. Wow what a lifesaver ! Thank you !

Hi Thomas. Great video. One correction, the filter pad cartridges go in the back (according to the manufacturer) and the media baskets go in the front. That way, filter pads filter the water before it gets to the media baskets.

BombayWizard I agree, too! You don't want the mucky muck getting caught in the grey filters first. That's what the blue floss is for on the other filter. It's to capture the first of everything that's drawn up into the filter basket. Major fail in this video, in my opinion!

This used to be one of the best HOB filters. But if anyone has ever lived through a power outage they’ll appreciate the self priming Tidal 110 from Seachem. Comes with a surface skimmer, heater holder and massive internal basket for biomedia. The lid acts as a tray as well when it’s time to clean your media. Simply can’t be beat in my opinion. Unless you go canister.

Thoughts With Major : It could be that your impeller isnt in properly or your intake pipe isnt secure. I always like filling my filter up with water before installing the intake piping.

So what are you supposed to put in the refillable filter cartridges?
@jessemccarthy058 жыл бұрын
Ксения Ковалевская hello, you can either use a mechanical type media such as filter floss or folks also put carbon in them as well. Hope this helps.
@yepperdeedooda8 жыл бұрын
Jesse McCarthy I actually just saw a vid where people put another filter thing, so I think I'll buy more of those.
@jessemccarthy058 жыл бұрын
Ксения Ковалевская what did they use?
@yepperdeedooda8 жыл бұрын
Jesse McCarthy Just another blue filter thing with the sponge and charcoal that comes with it.
@sandraoh64327 жыл бұрын
It should hold bio media. NOT CARBON! Carbon is not necessary in a tank. It will help to clog up the filter pad quicker. I cut the top and remove all the carbon then re use the filter pads. The video is giving POOR advice. You don't put the plastic thing that holds the media first, it must be the filter pad first. AND this is NOT a preference thing. He is simply using it incorrectly!!!

I just installed Marineland Emperor 400 Power Filter .The first one works great and has been running in my new 55 gallon tank for 24 hours. Tonight I installed and second Marineland Emperor 400 Power Filter. The bio wheels move and water is flowing but no water is getting to the spray tubes . I checked them impeller ,checked the tubes and ran water through them.Still spray tubes can't get water to them .Any suggestions or should I just take it back to Petsmart and get another ? Thanks

Hi Al and other knowledgeable readers, Please EXPLAIN why sometimes media cartridge is behind the filter pad and sometimes it is in front. @jeffg32398 жыл бұрын
Hi on video you placed E filter cartridge in front location. That is incorrect should be in the back location, front is for media
@BigAlsVOD8 жыл бұрын
There is really no right or wrong order; depending on the type of media you put in, you may prefer them before the cartridge instead of after. The most important thing to note is that the E cartridges should always be placed with the blue side of the pad facing the back of the filter so that they don't interfere with the bio-wheel.

Hi ive had these filters for about 6 months now i recently cleaned the filters and i rinsed the bio wheel in some water from the aquariam i dont know if they bio wheel bent but while its spinning it gets stuck for a few seconds then spins again and it seems to not have that much flow and more water being kept in the filter should i replace the biowheels?
@dylansmith84797 жыл бұрын
Kareem Borrego if you read the box it said the bio wheel should not be replaced unless if there is a rip or tear in it
@sandraoh64327 жыл бұрын
No, if the spinning has slowed try pushing the bio wheel from the ends inward, very gently... This helped with mine. And no need to wash the wheels but it there's a lot of gunk on it, do just like you did. Use old tank water to swash it around.

Quick question, if I have a power outage isn't water still in the filter?
@sandraoh64327 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the water in the tube that goes from the tank to the filter box will drop. Once power is returned, water will eventually get pulled through but it will take a few minutes and it will be loud. This is what stresses the motor and assisting it by adding water to the filter box just assists with getting the siphon from the water intake tube to the filter box going.

I have heard that these are very loud filters, is that true?
@BigAlsVOD9 жыл бұрын
+Clearly Scaled - Level of noise is a pretty subjective thing. For some people who want absolute quiet, this filter can seem pretty loud. For others who don't mind a small hum, it's not bad at all. From our point of view, if you have your aquarium in your bedroom or by your TV, this filter may make a bit more noise than you'd like. But if it's in its own space where the hum won't interrupt your sleep or your favorite show, it shouldn't bother you.
@redbeard42068 жыл бұрын
The filter is awesome, but my spray bars wont work anymore, It's just not sending water to them, And i found the most affective way to use this filter is to use 100% polyester pillow stuffing in the reusuables, For anyone who doesn't use polyester pillow stuffing... It's cheap and i find it to be more affective than store bought filter's.

i was going to go with that for my 75, but i did a fair bit of research, and i hate the whole cartridge set up, and the bio wheel crap. i was at pet smart and said do you sell replacement bio wheels, no they do not and they told me i would have to order those online. that was a big no no for me. so i went with the aquaclear 100 and honestly it is a dream. no cartridges, all media. i haven't looked back and it works amazingly.

I used that filter before but now is broke.
@sandraoh64327 жыл бұрын
The filter goes in the first slot, furthest away from the bio wheels. Then the containers where you could add the bio media go in the seond slot. The point is so the water is filtered BEFORE it hits the bio media. You want the water to be as clear as possible before it hits the bio media. Why would you want to place those before the mechanical filtration? Even if you're filling the plastic containers with floss, the order should be the filter pads before the filter floss as the floss is to help with the smaller particles AFTER the more porous filter pads trap the larger pieces of dirt/debris. It's not a preference thing, you're simply using this filter incorrectly. Big Al- you make a lot of helpful videos. Please consider removing this one.

Great Video should showed folk how to adjust leveler under the filter if the power filter was maybe mis Aligned Love the Video . Sadly this filter is either exceptional or poorly placed by me as it catches more junk that my ehiem pro 4+ 250 canister and sea chem tidal 75 i'm using power filters for my carbon and phos pads , ehiem my bio media area . mind u i'm flowing 1500 gallons per hour in my fowler tank I have a cpr hang on sump and skimmer .Marinland its a tad noisier but a very effective at filtering my filtering is most likely over kill great power filter salt water i bet even in fresh water
