I'm glad somebody finally told me the FordPass app I downloaded isn't really going to do much for me with my 2015 Edge. Sigh. The manuals all say things like "if equipped." It's taken us a bit to figure out all the equipment - that said, it's only been 24 hours and I know a lot. I finally realized it would be easiest to look at the window sticker to see what options we have on the car (I mean, seriously, there are SO MANY we couldn't remember them all. Of course, it took me 3 years to learn I had heated windshield wipers on my Subaru.....) (I kept wondering "what's that button for? on the dash.....haha) Having the app for the last parking place and service records (and emergency dialing) may be helpful? All those seem to work. Right?

Yeah unfortunately it only works on vehicles equipped with SYNC 3, which is usually only on higher models of 2015 vehicles. But personally, I like using the app for the parking feature. It lets me find the parking spots nearest to where I will be, and how much it will cost me to park there for a certain amount of time. It's really helpful for downtown areas that you don't want to drive around for hours trying to find parking. @@saauuzza actually in the wintertime I usually start it when I hop out of the shower, and by the time I'm dressed it's already blowing warm air and the engine, oil and transmission have gotten a chance to warm up a bit. Before I knew this, I used the key but now I don't have to run downstairs anymore and go stand next to a window for it to work!

I bought my 2017 f250 as a certified preowned. The salesman that sold it to me told me about Ford Pass and Sync, but not how to connect it. I asked another salesman in the new car section. He simply didn't know and said to look on KZbin. Still confused. I'll figure it out, but going in cold, this is not a very intuitive app or feature on the truck.

Huh. That is really weird. It's actually very simple to hook up. First you gotta do all the boring stuff (download the app, create an account, etc.) Then go to My Vehicles, and on the inside of your driver's side door, there should be a barcode with your VIN number. You can either scan that barcode and your vehicle should pop up, or just type in your VIN number manually, which you can find over the VIN bar or by looking on your dash through your windshield on the driver's side. Then just assign your vehicle to your account, start your vehicle, confirm you are assigning your vehicle to your account on your screen, and you should be good to go! Sounds confusing, but it's very easy once you figure it out. If you have questions, just let us know and we can help you out!

Vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 have a modem that can connect to data, just like your phone (3G, LTE, etc.). So if both your phone and your vehicle are connected to wireless data, you can unlock, lock and start your vehicle from pretty much anywhere. You can also check sports scores, the weather, and local gas prices with SYNC 3

If what I understand is correct, if your phone doesn't have a SIM card, Wi-Fi should work. I'm pretty sure they just both need to be connected to the Internet. When you pay for a vehicle with SYNC 3, you're paying for the modem that stays connected to the Internet so you can use the Nav system, among other things.

Thank you :) But I mostly refere to the very moment when you were far from the car. It's obvious that you can use a phone Internet when a phone and a car are in proximity. But what if you are in your house and let's say, you have left your car in a forest. Is then your car connected with the Internet by itself? What I mean exaclty is: for money you spend, will the car be able to connect to Internet by itself, or in cases when your phone is far away do you need to buy a sim card with Internet package and install it to the car? I know I am drilling and your answers are good, but I want to get to the very bottom :) Right now I would like to spare some money and in a few years (short I hope!) buy a mustang. I think Sync 3 is a cool feature and I am wondering if I'll be able to utilize it in 100% :)

Totally understandable! So your car AND phone don't physically need to be connected to each other like if you were connecting it through Bluetooth. When you purchase a vehicle with SYNC 3, you are also buying the modem (or "chip") that can connect to the Internet. You don't have to pay for any data plans, Internet packages, etc. If your vehicle is in a remote area, say the middle of the forest, you would probably be in an area without a strong data connection, so FordPass wouldn't work in that situation. But from what I understand, if you were in New York and your car was here in Downtown Winnipeg, you should be able to use it since both would be connected to an Internet source. I hope this makes sense and answers your question Tomasz!

I agree! Jaguar you can control the temperature in it when you start it, it will also show if any windows are down, sends a txt if you didn’t lock the doors, (this is optional). Track it exactly where it is,, how much gas it has, The Fordpass is lacking a lot.

Well for FordPass to work, you would need some sort of Internet connection, since that's how the device connects to your vehicle. As for disabling the modem, again, that's how the vehicle connects to your device, so I'm assuming disabling it wouldn't allow the 2 to work with each other. There may be a way, but that's a little over my head.

The email you use to set up your Fordpass will let you know when another phone has been paired. So if I drive your car around and set up my phone to it, you'll get an email saying that your vehicle has been paired with another device

I live in Ohio. If I go to Florida for two months during the winter, can I remotely start my Ford in my garage to run for ten minutes to charge the battery with the garage door being closed? Will the fumes in the garage damage anything? No one or pet will be in the house.

For the fumes, I'm sure if you start your vehicle once a week or every 2 weeks and run for 10 minutes at a time, it should be fine. Obviously don't start it every day or that might be a different story. As for starting it in Florida, from what I did, it should work. I don't see how there's difference if I start it from 15 minutes away as apposed to starting it 15 hours away. Maybe just ask a neighbour to check on it when you give it a try!

From what I understand, FordPass works with any vehicle that has Sync 3. Usually it only applies to 2017 vehicles, but if it is equipped with Sync 3 then it should be good to go! Maybe give it a try and see how it goes and let us know!

I tried on 2016 ford taurus which has sync 3 and it doesn't work. As ford owner I am very disappoint at ford motor company. Because fordpass should be on all ford and Lincoln vehicles. Not everyone likes 2017 ford fusion, 2017 ford escape, and 2017 ford f-150. Maybe you can try fordpass on 2016 ford taurus, 2017 ford focus, and 2017 ford flex in case some customers ask you.

FordPass is a relatively new app, which was released when the line of 2017 vehicles were released, hence it only working for those models. We've had a lot of people ask about an update of some sort, and we have passed that information on to Ford!

I believe it works with sync connect not sync 3 however they do work together you can have sync 3 without sync connect if I am not mistaken I also think that escape & f150 are the only ones that have it for 2017 as an option. I may be wrong

The New Ford Pass app update - If you have successfully updated the snyc on your Ford and no longer have the app connecting. If the activation steps do not work as mine did not after running the new app update - DO NOT go to the service department. There is one more troubleshooting to do If you have the option to schedule a turn on engine. Set the schedule for the day you have the app open 10 minutes ahead (it won’t do less than 5 min) If like mine, the scheduled time starts the car it will pair the updated app with full functionality. I called Ford Pass and requested they add this to the troubleshooting since it is the one thing they did not do with me. I almost brought it into Ford to be charged $125 diagnostic for them to look at this issue and who knows what they would have charged if I hadn't asked them questions and realized what needed to be done. Again, if you have an option to schedule do so and it will pair all the other features.

Huh, that's a weird one I've never heard before. Usually it takes about 30-40 seconds for it to start, but I've never heard or encountered it opening the doors but not starting before. There might be a wiring issue from the modem to the starter or something along those lines. Best advice I can probably provide you Rob is to take your Escape to the dealership, get them to try it out and see if they can get someone to take a look at why it's not starting. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

From what I understand, you need SYNC 3 for this to work. I'm not too sure if it would work with a 2012 Mustang, since SYNC 3 wasn't out at that time.

That's a great question Karen! When you buy a vehicle with SYNC 3, it's standard across all Ford Dealerships that we set you up with a FordPass account, regardless if you would use it, so this doesn't happen. When you set up your account and your vehicle is linked to that account, it is locked to it and can't be accessed unless YOU say so. So if someone made an account, got your VIN code and tried to pair the 2, it wouldn't pair since it should be paired to YOUR account that was made when you purchased the vehicle. If your dealer never helped you hook up FordPass, a) that's a big no-no and they could get in trouble and b) technically they COULD set up an account, but it would take a lot of work and you would find out pretty quickly.

River City Ford Sales Ltd I figured out what it was. There is a bug on the latest FordPass version for Android (v. 1.19.1). I simply uninstall that version and install an older version (1.7.0) and it at least worked flawlessly early this morning.

I don't see the point of starting your car 12 blocks away. I dont care about the car dealerships near me. Also, everything the app does the screen in my edge already does. I am an awesome photographer that would like to let my photography roll around on a screen saver. That would be an awesome feature. Yes that's true. Even in the summer it's handy to have. When your vehicle's been sitting in the hot sun for hours, it's always a good idea to turn it on for a couple minutes so you're not roasting in the vehicle :P
