For some reason whenever I run the macro for the XYZ probe the Z axis engages and starts lowering but will not stop and retract and I have to hit my E stop to disengage. I tried raising the Z axis higher than the 50mm setting and retrying the macro but then the Z axis stops short of the surface of the plate. It will not keep running thru the commands for the other two axes as it should. What could I be doing wrong?

I would suggest reaching out to the manufacture of your machine. It might be a code issue, or a machine issue.

Great stuff mate. I've been working through your CNC setup series. For some reason the hospital wifi restricted commenting on a few of them as "Adult Content" 🤣 We are all home now.

Im brand new to cnc machines. So my question may be a little dumb. After probing do you zero out the job? Or do you only zero out x,y and not z?
@kjh_woodworking3 ай бұрын
Not a dumb question, everyone starts somewhere! A "Z" probe only zero's out the Z axis. A "XYZ" probe zero's out all axis'. Depending on what probe you are using, you may need to zero the X and Y axis, but never the Z. Hope that helps.

When routing a profile (cutting out a piece of wood), you basically make a slot and thus removal of wood chips is more difficult. For this, I can imagine that the combination of speed, feed and step down should be different from when I do pocketinig (Most of the pocketing I do is carving shapes out of wood and thus most of the time 3 sides of the bit are free to release wood chips). If I have for example a 5mm bit that I use for pocketing on 8000rpm with feed rate of 3500 mm/min and 2.5 mm step down what would be the best setup of these parameters for profiling?
@kjh_woodworking Жыл бұрын
What sort of machine are you using? 8000rpm seems quite low and 3500mm/min seems high for a hobbies machine?

@@kjh_woodworking I am using a Bulkman 3D Ultimate Bee with 1.5 kw spindle and XPRO V5 controller . Strange thing though is when I do routing with a 3 mm down bit on 8000 with a feed of 1600 I have no burn. This is a carbide bit. While the profile routing burns

Hey Kieran, I'm a newbie to cnc. We have a 1200x600mm cnc router and I have been tasked with the job of settting up. I have a small 2D pocket part which I post processed from Fusion360. We use CNCjs and have a touch probe. My question is around finding the datum for x,y and z. I see the probe function in CNCjs but I am afraid to use it for the x and y as I don't think the supplier gave us any Gcode for the Macro. He is no longer in business. How can I find x,y on the workpiece? Thanks for your help. Just subbed to your channel.
@kjh_woodworking4 ай бұрын
You don't necessarily have to find the X and Y point with a probe, you can simply move the spindle around and zero out your axis when you at the location you want to be. Hope that helps.

Thanks for an excellent step-by-step tutorial. I tried to use your code to create a new macro in "OpenBuilds Control". I got this error message when I tried to run it: error: 2 - Numeric value format is not valid or missing an expected value. [ %ENDMILL_DIAMETER = 3.175 ] I know that you use a different controller but I'm hoping someone here can help me out. (I'm not a coder.) Thank you.

All these wonderful machines, all that knowledge and time - and all people ever make on these is useless junk! Hey, I know it pays, but these machines could be so great at actually making parts for "real" things.
