I’m going to have to do this mod to my bdb. Looks like fun.

I've just done this from your great instructions, thank you! Everything is working nicely but I am getting a higher pitch noise coming from the pump when limiting the flow rate to very low. Has anyone experienced this?

Also if you get a chance do a vid on replacing probes those are a pain given the spot welding

I see you've gave into the upgradeitus for the force tamper eh. How is it? Can we expect a video on it in the near future?

you sure can!

Works well with 19 grams, when I go to smaller basket and smaller dose 16 gr, it does not work as well, any of you had similar experience?

i just got my dual boiler, i’m trying to use your settings but how do you turn off the hot water please ? quite struggling here but really want to learn !

It's all in the videos. Go watch video 1 of how to do the mod.

Hi- just did this mod myself and watched a different source on how to do it. there is a switch in the hot water knob that turns the loop on, you can take it off ( it is right above the knob and you will see two wires going into it). I took the metal contact spring out and re installed so it wouldnt trigger. Hope that helps.

Fantastic video. I'll be looking into this mod to my machine over the next few weeks. One question, though, have you considered using a screen puck as part of your workflow? It's been a game changer for me to avoid channeling.
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
I got one and haven't used it because I figured out my water profiling issue when I was researching this video. You dose less with à screen puck but do you also have to adjust grind size?
@DCteamtraceur Жыл бұрын
Dosing would technically be less by a margin. So yes. I've done the mod and decided not to use the screen puck. Mainly due to the fact that I'm managing the flow, and my puck prep is sufficient enough, in my opinion, to avoid channeling. The biggest challenge right now is getting the right setting on the dial for pre infusion. 1mm vs 1.2mm is a big difference. 😊 Did you change your pump pressure for the mod? I've left mine at 60%.
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
I have the pump pressure stuff in the video, I put it to 0s so it's only flow profile. And yes it's extremely sensitive. @@DCteamtraceur

Cheers, what are taste comparisons between Slayer method VS no-mod long hold manual button?
@GadgetsGearCoffee9 ай бұрын
it depends on the coffee, really hard coffees to extract, I can extract them better with the slayer mod so the flavor is even more intense and complex

you can also tweak on the fly as you're controlling the flow in real time, there are many cups that weren't perfect but I still saved and was good because I was adjusting based on the pressure (too much pressure for example so I'd lower the flow) and then adjust the grind size on the next coffee

Great video, thanks! I have a question about the specified durations for each roast. Are those the flow that we use in pre-infusion or full pressure? I’ve just done the slayer mod and I’m struggling to get a 3 bar preinfusion as the gauge shots up to 5-6 bars with the slightest movement. So, I’m trying to understand better how can I dial everything in.
@GadgetsGearCoffee10 ай бұрын
If you're still getting about 9 bar pressure during the extraction then turn the water valve lower during pre infusion

Nice video just one thing to mention. You should measure the water debit without the Portafilter

Ciao, great video was waiting a long time for it. I did the mod yesterday and I find there is a big problem with the valve settings. The adjustment is so precise that it is impossible to repeat the setting shot after shot. On the exact same position I will get 30 gr or 70 gr. So need to reset after every shot which is very time consuming. Have you found the same issue? Is there a fix?
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
it's very sensitive, you won't reproduce it exactly unfortunately. A solution to help reduce it would be getting a longer lever which you can DIY or buy from 1 Etsy seller specifically for the BDD mod
@izoard77 Жыл бұрын
@@GadgetsGearCoffee ciao! Yes thank you. After 1 week of experience I try to eyeball the right flow when I purge before extraction. So far I can say this mod has elevated my result significantly. Basically I get no bad cup and some exceptionally good cups. Thank you for making it possible with your videos!
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
@@izoard77 that's amazing! Do you have reference marks like in my video to help repeat the same settings?
@CodingwithGPT Жыл бұрын
I always thought that a shot of coffee is 20 - 30 seconds depending on preference like an espresso or Late. So not sure where the 45 seconds to a minute came from.
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
Those are all just guidelines. The longer shot time is due to flow profiling and much slower pre infusion or in the case of lance's video on flow profiling, cutting the flow for bloom for a bit then restarting

I certainly use and enjoy the BDB as a slayer machine. What roast were your beans with your milky coffee? Also, I use a pre infusion setting on the computer set at 20 to 25 seconds and PID at 55 for light roasts to get low consistent ml for pre infusion, that way the pump isn't flat out from the start, I've also tried this on medium to dark roasts and with good results. If you know your after 20 to 25 seconds pre, have a try and let the computer do the work but you still need to close the valve to stay in the 3 bar range, then just before 25 seconds say, I fully open it. Hope I'm clear on what I'm trying to explain 😊 I find that the slower pump speed in pre infusion you are able to replicate flow easier and consistency each, time, but yes you still need to use the valve to choose your water debit.
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
I showed the bag of coffee in the video. It was a light roast. Are you saying you use the breville pre infusion setting at lower pressure and also do flow profiling at the same time?
@jamescrook8815 Жыл бұрын
@@GadgetsGearCoffee yes but only until you need full pressure control, the water lever we both use still needs to be adjusted even with the computer doing some of the control, I normally on light roasts set a pre infusion time of 25 seconds, then the pump will go to full power so you have control there after, with the computer set to say the PID lowest setting the pump is at say half pressure, but once you get to the time you've set say 25 seconds it's flat out but your in control, yet have a play around but use a blank puck to see what happens. I just wondered on your roast, probably just me as I could not see roast, will get some glasses lol
@GadgetsGearCoffee Жыл бұрын
@@jamescrook8815 I feel with the low flow it's not necessary to also play with low pressure at the same time for pre-infusion but if it works for you that's great!
