How to Set up Drip Irrigation on Potted Plants

After getting a large area on my patio cleaned up and filled with potted plants, I wanted to do a separate video going over how to set up drip irrigation. More specifically, how I like to use drip irrigation to water my potted plants. I start off going over the drip irrigation pieces and how to assemble them, then I show some installation and finish off talking about how long to water with drip irrigation. How long to water with drip irrigation and how often to water with drip irrigation is a difficult question to answer, right up there with "how to water plants." All are topics that have a lot of variables. Plants that enjoy a lot of water like gingers, caladiums and hibiscus love the adjustable heads! Watering hibiscus can take a long time in summer, so I am glad to have them set up and have automatic plant watering for my houseplants. How to set up drip irrigation on potted plants is so simple and fun, I hope you give it a try.

I started drip completely because of your last Video! I can’t imagine living life without it now. I was sooo overwhelmed at the beginning but once you get basic parts down it’s really just a simple puzzle. Yep fingers hurt after a few hours but sooo worth the pain. Lol 😂

Hi Jeff! This was very helpful. I like how you explained all of the different pieces and what you use them for. I have soaker hoses set up on a timer in my two raised beds and love it! I did add a filter and haven't had any problems. When I need to replace the soaker hoses I'm thinking about using drip, so this was good! I just watched the "Turbo" video and had to chuckle when you said you had the tortoise pen set up. Thank you so much for sharing!

I have never installed drip, but one day I would love to do so, because, as you said... it is a puzzle and I love puzzles and then seeing the end result. All the different parts serving a purpose... love it! Great video 👍🏼

Drip is a game changer for sure. We have had such a wet year this year I have only had to run mine 3 days since March. Daily soakers are just keeping everything well hydrated. I have a feeling thats about to change come August and September.

I only have 1 zone set up currently on drip and a blue tooth timer. I love it, set it and forget it. I for sure need to set up more zones. We spend about 15-20 hours a week dragging the hose around a half acer to water everything.

Which Bluetooth timer are you using? I tried several last year and they all broke within a matter of weeks. I absolutely loved them when they worked!

@@TropicalPlantParty I am using the Orbit B-Hyve 24511 The range is not great as I have to be within 20' of it to connect to it on my smart phone but once it's programed I have had 0 issues with it. Going on 4-5 months now and have not even had to change the batteries yet. I have it set to run every day at 5AM for 30 minutes.

I've used a lot of timers and have yet to find one that doesn't disappoint in one way or another. If you just need a timer that is set up for one or two zones, there are a lot of options. Orbit, Mel melnor and rainbird work well.

Hey Marty! I got this one from Top Tropicals, an online seller. It's a variegated sea hibiscus, also called the Mahoe hibiscus, Hibiscus tiliaceus 'Variegatus', Talipariti tiliaceum 'Albo-Variegatus', T. tiliaceum 'Tricolor' I know, that's a lot of names! 😂 all for one plant. Unfortunately they're not hardy but they are supposed to easy to overwinter inside. We will see about that 😊
