So on the subject of their inability to climb smooth surfaces...I recently awoke to a baby Dubai that managed to escape through small pen tip sized air hole and was clinging to outside of clear plastic cup style container. This has raised my anxiety level about them being not able to climb.

@@damianhurt1043 there are pros and cons to stacking this way for sure. But most breeders advocate for standing them up vertically because it keeps all of their waste falling to the bottom. Much easier for cleaning.

I have a couple questions, do they need a heating pad? I was told in order to breed them that they do but I'm not sure if that's true. I have dubia roaches and discoid roaches and they do well together. I use them as feeders for my other animals, but I keep the big ones as pets because they're too big for any of my pets to eat. I'm wondering can I keep the discoids with them if I plan to breed my dubias? If not I don't mind separating it's just usually easier since they do so well together!

I've been using a technique that I came up with when my giant african land snail had an oral prolapse (they often die because they can't eat properly). I use a juicer and I throw in some apple, carrots and grapes etc, and then I mix this with water crystals. It's very easy to eat, and the snail has made a complete recover by now. The roaches also love it, and I only have to keep 1 bowl in there since they get nutrients and water from the same source. THe crystals lasts for days as well, so it's easier to maintain. So far I haven't really noticed anything wrong. The dubias are reproducing like rabbits.

60°-70° shouldn't hurt the Dubias but it will decrease their rate of reproduction. If their current rate of reproduction isn't sufficient for your purposes then it would be worth adding another heat pad.

@@nvkrunker4964 1) Dubia need AT LEAST 85F to live a long life (females 2 years, males 1 year). 2) They need 90F to breed well (with a good/proper diet offered). 3) DO NOT KEEP THEM ON SOIL OF WHATEVER KIND, UNLESS YOU DO NOT INTEND TO FEED THEM OFF. If you do, there's a HIGH risk of introducing mold and/or mite into your animal's enclosure. 4) One advice from me: add buffalo worms to your colony. They will eat your dead roaches and leftover wet food and WILL reduce the chance of introducing diseases to your colony. You don't have to take my word on it, but I myself have been breeding Dubia's for well over 8 years, with huge succes. Trust me, I have been there, I made mistakes by not doing enough research first. Don't be like me 10 years ago and think you know better. Listen to the veterans. :) Cheers.

Norris Jones listen to TheOpelkoenjas Do exactly that... the only thing I don’t do is keep the room at 90 degrees 80-85 is fine, get some water gels, or water crystals for them to drink/humidity they need 60% humidity... Diet I feed them what my grasshoppers eat Which is the grasshopper pellets smaller than an egg, roach chow 1. Corn flakes 2. Oatmeal 3. One Table spoon of sugar 4. 2 grasshopper pellets or whatever you want to gut load for your animals... 5. 2 fruits something with less water Banana or pears. 6. Not too much water, I prefer a thicker rendition because when they poop whether you feed them watery things vegetables and fruits their poop will be watery which can lead to mold. 7. I feed them the chow 1 hour before feeding my T’s
@TheOpelkoenjas
@TheOpelkoenjas 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrTomkat030 Careful with the sugar there. The fruit and cornflakes already contain sugars (even the natural cornflakes has added sugar). I too use almost the exact same recipe, just no pear since it tends to rot too fast to my liking, they get too ripe too fast in those temperatures. Apple all the way here. I add a bit of freeze-dried strawberry and peach (when out of season) as well as baby cookies. But I myself feed this menu 24/7. The dry parts mixed together and the wet parts given separately. This makes it easier to clean for me (every two days). What you'll catch me often do during winter or lazy times is simply give them a jar of cheap baby food. They LOVE it and basically contains everything they need. Just avoid the ones with mango added. Everything else goes. Mind you, Dubia are picky eaters, surprisingly. If they don't like it, they rather starve than eat it. LOL Cheers!
