You should certainly check your distance to the screens and so on and see if you are still correct with your personal FOV

You can prefer it that way for sure. If you can overcome differences in the sense of speed or sense of depth in distance then thats fine for you I assume.

+300 seating position seems you are glued to windscreen. check size of steering wheel and you get correct fov.
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
a +300 seating position does still not change your FoV despite you are glued to the windscreen. The only thing that might suffer is one not being able to anticipate the dimensions of the car in width and length.
@krazy.882 ай бұрын
@@MichiHoyer sure it changes your field of view, without radar and virtual mirror you have no spatial awareness coz you dont see normal mirrors and side windows. but for sure it doesnt change "lens properties" as any kind of aberration, and this is what is known as fov in simracing world. but for once try seat at 0 and see how much bigger your fov (field of view) will be ;) and sure sit in regualr car and compare fovs. your is not correct by any means, and its probably made for winning races, and not immersion, same as turned off shadows that seems like a cheat to me ;)
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
I remain with my statement that the field of view in a physical / optical concern is correct. I agree that moving the seat forwards, means you see less of your car in the selected field of view, as you move the field of view more forwards from the cockpit centre so that is correct. However, the cockpit pillar without a window blocks the view of any left hand turn apex. Since we cannot move our head around it a bit like real world drivers. So to sum up - yes seating position 0 has more car chassis in my field of view than 300 - yet the field of view is the same. Regarding considering this being a cheat - That is a bold accusation. After all this feature is available for everyone. It is a feature that is built into the game and a feature that can be used by anyone who is able to bind some buttons to the ingame settings. Therefore you use it to your advantage for maximum performance... so do shadows....
@krazy.882 ай бұрын
@@MichiHoyer i agree. i was wrong on fov topic. but still cant agree we in real car sit so close to the windscreen :) and for shadows.. i would force everybody to use them, because they make racing much harder..and didnt mean you really cheat.
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
Thanks for another fast reply :) I would agree with the shadows. It should perhaps be a non selectable graphics feature so it is same for all :) And I also agree with the windscreen position. But I think here the same applies. I remember thousands of drivers were moaning when the cam of the car couldnt be moved far enough, because you always had blocked views... there are surely pros & cons about some of these circumstances.

Thanks for the video 👍🏼 I have a horrendous experience trying to setup the rearview mirrors with the key combos, particularly with the right mirror, if I want to set the right mirror to the left, I have to move the seat all forward and then the mirror will start to move to left, and if I want to set the right mirror to the right I have to move the seat all backwards and then the mirror will start to move right, and the central mirror in the LMDh is another pain in the ass 😞😞😞

You could have a browse maybe in your settings.json file. There could be a line saying something like "rearview mirror" - and that can be set to a variable that keeps it static. Tell me if you have issues finding it.

@@MichiHoyer Yes, thank you so much, in fact I had made the change in the .json file, but it seems not working properly at least in my case, 'cause despite the adjust in the archive every car brand I use I have to adjust it in game manually over and over again, personally I would love to see the reflection of the chassis in the rearview mirrors, I could be more immersive and gives you the posibility of an a better rear view perspective. Could it be possible if you help us making a video about the rearview mirrors?, I'll be grateful if you could do it, thanks in advance. Saludos ✌🏼

Hm not sure if I would be able to make a dedicated video about that. Make sure that you are doing the changes in the files, open LMU and close it before hitting the track. I do change the sitting position and that does not change perception of speed as you are just altering the location of your camera lens in X and Y directions but not how much angle it is capturing.

Did you move your seat forward Michi? I noticed you are seeing the top of the dash and not the front of it. If you have moved it forward, why? Does this not affect your feeling of the car rotating vs having the seat at 0,0?
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
In fact I moved the seat forwards & upwards. To me it does not effect the feeling of the car going sideways too much. First of all the Force Feedback is giving me the information of the balance. Additionally I have enough reference points from the car parts I see about the trajectory of the car. To me that works enough. May be a limiting factors for other people though.

@@MichiHoyer Ah fair enough. I do like the view of the road when I scoot the seat forwards. Not just for removing the chassis as obstruction, but it also fills more of the screen with track and seems to help you 'zoom in' when looking at the apexes.

I'm wondering about fov, I see you are holding it pretty close to bonnet, if VR is used, I guess there is not way to go further forward to not see the wheel and because of immersion too. Would you say those two are completely different and not comparable at all? I mean, I guess you don't have experience in VR, but maybe somehow you know if in VR fov is not problem?

I am unsure what kind of FoV settings you would have in VR since I dont use it. Maybe some one can explain. But I think there you should use default FoV as you are sitting in the car.having the eye right at the camera lense.

I appreciate your efforts. I have a question though. If your calculator is diffrent from all the others, or even if all calculators show differences to all others as well, how do we prove which is physically correct?
@IgorBorgacci2 ай бұрын
@@MichiHoyer The proof is that no one uses the values generated by other calculators because they are extremely low values whether it is Horizontal Fov or Vertical Fov. My calculator provides results with the same calculation methodology that iRacing uses. So my Fov calculator differs from the others because it calculates exactly and only the combined Peripheral Vision of the human eye (120°).

You can adjust the seat position in LMU. Check control settings if you want to bind it to your wheel or something instead of using keyboard
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
You can indeed go backwards on the seating position. you should not adjust the FOV too much for this though. Some 2-3° is okay but never go more as you lose the sense of speed and the sense of depth for distance.
@DVKajak2 ай бұрын
I was trying what you described and compared it to my previous setting, which was done with another calculator. Felt totally akward... I think, you took the wrong value: vFov is for vertical field of view. But much more important is the hFov (horizontal) in the first line of the linked calculator. This can be matched to a shortcut and easily changed in game without the need to dive into menus. And for your setup you need to change from single screen to triple screen in the calculator, which will change the results again. It might end up with something similar what you made in the end but that was pure luck then, coming from mismatched value and faulty input. Sorry for the honest words, just trying to help understand... ;-)
@MichiHoyer2 ай бұрын
Hey there. thanks for your reply and your feedback. I am not entirely sure if all the points you raised are 100 % valid for my specific setup. Maybe I start trying braking it down. 1) You said I shall have used triplescreen for the calculation. This is not what I have. I have a single screen its 49" wide and it has 1800R curve. thats the values I have put into the calculator, and as the outer edges of the Screen are more closer to my eyes than with no curved screen, having a wider FoV (31° instead of 27) makes sense. 2) Le Mans Ultimate and rFactor 2 use the vertical FOV calculation as you can see in the settings screen ingame. Of course there is also a horizontal FoV but both Horizontal & vertical FoV relate to each other - as you can also see in the calculator. 3) the diffrent values that you got from a diffrent calculator - would you be able to hint me towards the calculator you have used, I want to check what settings that propose on my setup. 4) the shortcut of the files you were talking about - where do I need to go to find them? Just wanted to make sure you have wrote your feedback based on the usage of Le Mans Ultimate, or rFactor 2 right?

I love the driving sensation in the game, and I love driving hypercar, but I had to go back to driving in assetto corsa because I don't think they're going to add vr support anytime soon. I wish they stop trying to get the way around of not improving the game but just creating more content to get more money... I can really see sim racers getting fed up with their way of thinking that continued from rf2.
