How to set up Loopy Pro like a simple guitar(or any instrument) loop pedal with the Nektar Pacer midi controller. I've made my own template based on your video and just been using the slide over function for iPad Pro to add in samples and drum pads from other apps. The MC8 is a bit of a different animal. You need “looper mode” engaged on the Rec buttons but not the stop buttons. I hadn’t been successful getting long press to work for clear. Hopefully you can get that figured out!

Great video Josh. Out of all your looping rigs which one do you prefer to use when play out live? I’ve been using the Headrush looperboard. But my pedal board is large and it’s a bear to move. Watching this video has me thinking about changing things up.

Hey Paul thanks! Well to be honest I’m still a bit unsure which way to go. In the Loopy set up there is a 4U rack case off camera that houses my interface, usb hub, wireless unit and power supplies. So it’s not as compact as one might think. There are ways to simplify that though. At the moment I’m still on my hardware set up for gigs. (RC-600) it’s so easy just to drop a pedalboard, plug in and play. I haven’t ruled out using Loopy in the wild though and I’m still stress testing that set up in the safety of my studio.

You set up button 1 the same as all the others but in the video, you didn’t give it any function in Loopy Pro. Can you tell me if you use it for anything? I also set up the Stop All button with a long press to delete all.

Thanks! I’m glad it helped. I’m using button One as an alternate Stop all. I have that one stop at the end of the loops automatically. This is useful for certain songs when I’m too busy to try to get the timing right for a song section when I drop all loops and play acoustically. My other start/stop all on the right side is instantaneous.

Very clear the way you explain! So i will ask you for your help: i use a drum loop on first loop about 12 bars long as a blues then i record the guitar part and it sounds right but slowly goes out of sync. I tried all kind of sinc settings but it doesn't work, of course playing live i cannot wait until the whole drum loop ends, thanks a lot!

Is that drum loop exactly 12 bars? You can go into clip settings and check. It has to be exactly 12 bars and sync settings should be either "master" or "loop" You may also try a different short drum loop to test with and make sure the settings are okay

Hello..Yes it's guitar into audio Interface. Interface and midi controllers are connected to the ipad via a powered USB C hub.

Incredible. So versatile. Here's an unusual question. Let's say I wanted to load individual tracks from my DAW. For example guitar, bass, drums. A full song say. Now I want control over each track to apply effects and then automatically assign the effects to play when I want them to. In essence, can I build a set list using Loopy Pro as the player. Simply loading each song as a session, saving it and then perform with live guitar and vocal for a gig. I know this not actually using the Loopy Pro as a looper, in this setup, but is it possible I'm wondering

You can definitely do that. I do something similar for certain songs. The only difference is I will sometimes combine Live Loops with some pre recorded material from the studio and Loopy Pro does it seamlessly

Thank you! I have not tried that specifically but I have synced up a Hologram Microcosm. Midi out from the interface into the pedal. In Loopy Synchronization settings make sure to check mark the interface.

I’ve been using Boss rc600 for a months 6 days a week its a great looper but I’m getting super frustrated with bugs, glitches, the way it affets tone of electric guitar and the amount of time I had to reset it in front of people. How would You compare The performerence of loopy to stand alone looper? Is there any latency or bugs u experienced? And can u assign The parameters of for example vocal effects like feedback to extremal midi controller knobs? Thank You!

@@Boguszmusic That’s a great question and one I’ve been pondering heavily over the last year+. I’ve gigged with both set ups equally this last year. So there are pros and cons to each. There is no perceptible latency on my Loopy system even with a cheap zoom interface. Stability has been not perfect but I believe I’ve tracked problems down to faulty USB C cables and insufficient power to devices. My RC-600 has actually been rock solid. I would say that if I was just doing simple acoustic looping with guitar and vocals I would just use the RC-600. But the kind of looping I want to do (guitar, vocals, keyboards and sampled drums and performance effects) gets very complicated with hardware. In Loopy it’s all so easy to set up and more portable. In Loopy you can pretty much do whatever you can imagine. As for midi and parameters yes you’re u can assign pretty much anything.

@@Boguszmusic there are an endless amounts of good drums and other instruments on iOS. I load in all my own drum samples that I’ve collected over the years. I wasn’t a big fan of the internal drums on the RC 600: When I use that I use the roland handsonic. Honestly, though that hardware has been collecting dust lately.

Hello! Thanks. I'm not able to test this. I think in theory it should work but I can't be sure. You would want to use different midi channels for each pedal. What I can say is I use multiple midi controllers with no problem (different brands)

Josh - excellent content. Did you pre-establish loop length prior to performing your example? Struggling with how to make a template that allows me to have various loop lengths without predetermining them. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thank you! I did not establish any predetermined loop length in the example. The loops are all just set with “auto count out” to OFF. That’s the way I generally like to loop to keep things free and flexible. I have experimented with auto loop length though. It can be helpful but involves a different set up for each song.

@@alensinani5190 have you tried a direct USB connection? The other thing you can do is put a midi checking app on like midimtr to see if the Pacer is sending midi to the iPad. Typically there is nothing special you should need to do to get Loopy to recognize the midi from the Pacer

I am interested in this myself. I also like to use scenes l. For a four tracks set up like this I have an external footswitch set to do two different scenes. I’m considering a completely different layout for songs that use scenes and will post a video when I get it figured out.

I copied and pasted my response from the Facebook group.."Anyone that knows me knows I've gone back and forth between the RC-600 and Loopy Pro for the last two years. The last year has been almost exclusively with Loopy Pro for gigging. Almost all of the stability issues come down to the external gear (interface, hub and usb cables) If you invest in a quality interface like RME you will not notice any latency and also you will have stability. That said other interfaces are fine (Zoom, Focusrite and Motu) The USB hub and cables are equally important. The funny thing is I see people complaining about Loopy needing an interface and hub yet RC-600 users generally have a large pedalboard and external devices with many more possible points of failure than an ipad set up. In fact a lot of RC-600 users are now adding an ipad to their set up anyway to use as a midi controller. With Loopy you actually can do more with less gear. The potential overheating in direct sunlight is a real thing but you can do things to mitigate that. If you are just doing simple looping, hardware loopers are fine and maybe even a better choice. But if you want a compact set up, flexibility, cutting edge functionality and top-notch support Loopy is the way forward."

Hey. Both do work fine. The Morningstar is smaller, has a different feel, more customizable but lacks the led feedback. I think both work fine and the choice is all about preference and needs. Another good option is the KMM Softstep. It’s very portable. The spacing and feel of the switches though..people either love or hate. Hope that helps. I’m here if you have any questions.

They have new firmware to make their AIRSTEP Spark edition work to control the Spark GO and iPad with Loopy Pro. Unfortunately I have very poor skills to understand all this easily. I believe I do have it figured out. I’m 63 so definitely grew up in a different time and place. I’m ordering the AIRSTEP. There has been many people saying how difficult AIRSTEP is to get hold of but my experience has been my emails I’ve sent answered fully within a few hours. I’m so old tech I don’t even have Facebook, Tik Tok etc… I just finally started putting up KZbin videos of me learning timing with my clunky Digitech JamMan looper and that process is sure helping me get better playing my guitar and bass. Hey, this is super helpful, thanks for posting! I’ve been struggling to get the most out of my pacer and this is exactly what I needed. Couple of things not working as per your video though. 1) When I create the widgets and go into the midi learn set-up, I can select ‘press’ but then no sub menu appears for the additional settings? Any idea what I’m doing wrong? 2) I used the app to configure the settings on the pacer, exactly as described. The leds appear as their initial colour setting but don’t change colour when pressed. Any ideas why this is not working please? Forgive me, I’m new to Loopy Pro and to Pacer so it’s a pretty steep learning curve and video’s like your a few and far between! Thank You!🙏🏽

Unfortunately no. It does not respond to PC messages. The only option is to create different midi profiles in Loopy. But then the LEDS don’t match

@@liamjrmatthews It's a tough decision. I'm actually debating switching to the MC6 Pro for smaller board but miss the brght leds on the Pacer. The MC6 Pro is expensive but really nice. The footswitches are pretty quiet but not silent. The Pro can kind of have colored led feedback but it's not intuitive like the Pacer and I'm still struggling with getting that part working.

im new to loopy pro but i bought everything to mimic Mark K looping setup.. i have loopy pro, same steinberg audio interface... a FCB1010 midi foot controller.. midi out to audio interface in... usb to ipad.. Its picking up the microphone and i get audio out but i noticed my software doesnt have " midi interface" is that not in the new version and in some other menu?

Great Video - Thank you. I use a Morningstar MIDI controller. PLEASE HELP - I want to create 5 loops or 5 parts, and I want a different set of fx, or if you will a different preset for each of the 5 loops. Loop 1 (slight chorus), Loop 2 (light chorus and reverb), Loop 3 (distortion and light reverb)....etc. IMPORTANT - this is for live performance and so as I record each of the parts I need the fx to be active. In other words I don't want to put the fx on each of the loop buses, I want to record each loop or each part with fx already on them. How can I do this? How can I change from one "preset" or set of fx, to another with "one click" or "one MIDI message"???

Thanks for the kind words! What you to do is possible. It sounds like clip follow actions are what you want. You can make follow actions to enable or disable fx. If you want the effect baked into the loop you want to have the effect on the instrument input channel. I hope I'm understanding you correctly.

@@JoshElliottMusic I figured it out!!! Actually I created 5 buses; and each bus has a different /unique set of fx. Then on my input bus, I added 5 sends one to each of the buses (Send A, Send B, Send C, Send D). Then I added a switch knob control, in the editor. You turn the knob left or right, and each unique position will adjust the volume parameter of ALL of the sends on input channel. So if I turn the knob to a unique position to use Bus C, it will set the volume to zero on Send A, Send B, Send D and Send E - and set the volume of Send C to 100%. In this way I can control which set of fx (each bus has a unique set of fx), I use.

My loopy pro is not reading MIDI from my FCB1010 cc, every other app in the iPhone reads it fine. Midi Scope tells me I am send it the correct info. Any ideas?

Hmm. I’m not sure why that could be happening. Have you tried different cables and hub?

How to connect it to the iPad ? I have on FCB1010 that I use perfectly to control Rec/start/stop overdubs on the Rc505mk2 by midi cable in/out but have no idea how to do the same on loopy pro using iPad lightning plug😮 please help me out guys!!! And thanks for the amazing video man 🙏🏽❤️😊

How do you manage to record the first loop in 1 bar and automatically have 4 bars on the second loop? Everytime I approach like in the video the 2nd loop automatically record 1 bar only according to the first loop. 🙈

NEED HELP - Loopy Pro/iPad recognised on iMac Finder, Nektar Pacer shows midi comms on iMac using "midi-monitor" -all 3 devices connected via USB powered hub. WHY can't I get a "binding" relationship in Midi-Learn between the Nektar & iPad?? …..s'driving me loopy !!

Hmm. That’s confusing to me. What role is the iMac playing in this set up? It shouldn’t be needed. Pacer and interface into usb hub into ipad is all you should need. Turn off “network midi” in Loopy system settings. That has been known to cause issues with the Pacer.

Hi @@JoshElliottMusic thanks for quick response, ….I was using the imac from the hub, to run "midi-monitor" to ensure the Pacer was emitting the commands (which it does). So now, following your help, I've disabled "network midi" and connected from pacer, thru camera interface direct into iPad. So now, altho I can see the command emitted on the pacer screen - it still doesn't trigger the record loop. I've done everything else as per your youtube. It looked straightforward on there!! I wondered if the camera interface had a problem - but if i connect the pacer direct to the ipad via the hub (without the camera i/f)- it still doesnt work

@@Erky32there is an iOS app called Midi Wrench that works good for troubleshooting these types of issues. Are you on USB C or lightning? If Lightening the factory Apple adapter must be used. When you midi learn in Loopy does Loopy indicate that it received a message from the Pacer? Also do not forget the step in the Pacer editor to give two commands. 127 for press and 0 for release.

@@JoshElliottMusic - i'm on lightening (the one with the 8 exposed terminals double sided) . I've got the factory adapter. On midi-learn i see the 127-0 command on the pacer red led screen being acknowledged - but the binding link doesnt appear on the ipad. I'll check out the Wrench app.

midi Wrench is showing the pacer in grey/offline. Currently I have the pacer into USB hub, then hub to Apple adapter (camera adapter) into ipad . I am running the pacer on independant 9v supply because ipad said without was taking too much power. So it looks like my pacer is offline ? …when I press a pedal , the red leds indicate the action but nothing is logged on the wrench screen. I had previously set up the CC commands on the imac editor because it was easier - but I obviously had good comms to pacer from imac thru the hub & into the pacer. Everything is set on Midi channel 1.
