I use hand warmers readily available from DIY stores for zeroing my xp50. It has a sticky back and can be seen on your target almost 200 yards easy. Only 2x3 inches in size. Will be hot for up to 40C and will last 6 hours or so...

I use a piece of Cooking aluminium foil on cardboard backing 1-2" square. Fire the round, then get another piece of aluminium foil rolled up shape like a mushroom and the stem fitted in hole made by bullet. Go back to the sight and then move the scope reticle to the shot. Works well for zeroing the thermal, without the need to heat up anything or use of say hot hands.
