The firmware he used problably isn’t made for you r4 card, look at the website on the bottom of your r4 thats where you should look

It doesn't matter what tutorial I follow my card gives me a "cannot open _dsmenu.dat" error. Did I brick it or something? It was working just fine until I decided to be stupid and change the name of a game rom file (I changed 3, I only changed the names, not the internal coding or anything...)

Also make sure you have the correct kernel the correct website should be at the bottom of your cartridge

This works for the New 3DS XL/LL model too? I already have homebrew on it but the backplate is locked with a screw and I don't want to open it. Rather use the R4 card on the slot in front.

You technically could, but it makes no sense to do so. All 3ds are able to emulate whatever you want by default with your homebrew menu and the universal updater. As long as you download the correct data with the unviversal update you dont need to buy a r4 card

Nope, unless you bought a R4 dedicated to the 3DS (which are rare now day) you can't play 3DS on a R4, the reason is because the R4 boot the console into the DS mode, so it will only make the 3DS work as if it where a DS, emulating a playing as a DS would do. If you want to play 3DS games it's better to hack your console, on YT you will find a lot of tutorial on how to do it without spending money and it will take only 10 minutes to do it

So when loading the 3ds it doesn’t boot into the R4. On the home screen it shows the cartridge as Bomberman Land. When loading I’m present led with a white screen and a message saying error in red. Any help from anyone please. Much appreciated.

Yes and no. Sdhc claims it's a 3ds upgrade but it's suitable for nds. But rts 3ds lite will not load on a nds. Only on a 3
