Setting up my first reef tank after the holidays. I've always found bigger tanks to be easier to care for so a refuguim sounds like a great addition.

I used to have a 55 gallon Amazon set up with neons, angels, and piranhas, but had to get rid of it when I moved to Florida. I haven't had a tank since, but thanks to your videos, I've learned a lot more about all kinds of tanks and ponds and I'm getting ready to set up a new tank. Thanks for all your pointers and hilarious pop culture references in your videos!

Just acquired a 75 gallon tank that was full of live rock and running. After a 2 hour breakdown and set up, it all went well. I did notice my sump's refugium was full of sand and had not been cleaned in a while. Glad I found your video! I'm sold on what you did and I need the larger sump. THANKS!!! 👍👍👍👍

You can even set up a small Refugium in the back of a Biocube. Use a blade to get the black vinyl off from over the second chamber and use macro algae and instead of bio balls! Starting off in the hobby and still doing my research but when I take the plunge I will be having at least a small refugium! Love your channel.

Im 14 and im already on my 2nd reef tank and im pretty knowledgeable about reefs and the importance of a sump (thanks to jorge), sumps do all things they mechanicley filter, and biologicaly filter your water. The main idea is to filter your water and to harber beneficial backteria for your corals to be happy and healthy😁

For fuges, you need to make sure that you have a large enough portions for the algae and copepods to remove debris, food, waste, and nutrients like phosphate and nitrates and nitrites.

I have recently achieved my Certification as an AMP, Aquarium Maintenance Professional, Through Animal Behavior College….excellent course! That being said, I am more than comfortable servicing virtually any Freshwater system that comes my way. I also set up my LLC and such, getting fully legal. Please understand, I have a very stable career and such, at 51, and decided to get a head start on a side business for when I retire. I have never had any type of saltwater setup in all my years as a hobbyist, but, out of fairness to both myself and potential future clients, have literally dived right in, and have a stable, albeit fairly young, 125 gallon reef setup that is progressing comfortably. Patience is always key, of course, so doing my best to take it slow. My exam percentages for the marine sections of my studies were quite good, but without hands on experience, are not enough to safely and confidently aid others. Certifications or not, we, as a community, never stop learning from one another, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn and also hopefully assist someone else. !!!

I originally started with hang on back filter. Then I added ceramic rings n got rid of premade filter media. I finally set up a sump. I loved the sump. It made things easier. But sumps are not a have have. Hob filters can be used as filtration n a small refugium to. I hung two on my tank before I got my sump set up. I plan to restart my tank now that I've moved. I'm shooting towards less than 2 weeks getting started.

Hey, I’m about to upgrade my sump just like the video, I’ve got a 14yr old 60gallon reef tank and I’m upgrading to a bigger sump. I noticed you replaced all the old refugium media with the ultimate algae barn kit. My question is: is it recommended to replace the media, did you do it just for this video? My overall plan was to add more media (larger sump) while keeping the old stuff. My impression from the algae barn ultimate kit was that it was meant for kickstarting brand new aquariums, which is why I ask this now. What would you recommend I do?
