Wow, that is some serious information! I can tell it is very interesting to you and that is great. I will take this information and start to explore my end as I try to understand the potential issue with my car and EGR operation. I'm going to do more tests as well to see the open % at different throttle inputs as to confirm either 0 or 100% as seen before. Thank you my friend for the research and time you invest and hopefully this keeps you interested. It is very complex for sure until you figure out all the files etc. I will nose around Tuner Pro and Gearhead site to familiarize myself.... 😊

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us. I find it very helpful. I'd bought some Moates items over the years. I'm going to be putting a 3400 engine in a 1994 Cavalier. So, I will need to make changes to get a 3400 running correctly. Your videos have been the most thorough I've seen for someone just learning how all this works together to tune an engine. Listing all the links is also very helpful. I'll be sure to watch and learn more from your videos.

Dan, Just curious if you have had any problems with your Actron scanner connecting to the IROC? I keep getting error code “internal Error message 0x0004”. Actually the only way I can get my scanner to connect to my 86 IROC is by selecting the vehicle as a corvette which works however there are some different parameters on the 5.7 vette that are not on the 5.0 Camaro.

Not familiar with that code. The only connection issue I have had is if I didn't have a good 12v power connection. The OBD1 GM needs that 12v power. Otherwise, you might try email to their tech support. I had a question a while back and they were responsive.

Thank you for obd1 information. I want to dig into mine more. I used TunerPro. Seems like I got my bin file definition file from gearhead like you - moates sold me the burner software. You missed the fact - that you dont need to use a downloaded BIN File, you can backup your own, and use it. I used my own bin, backed it up first, for safety, modified the FAN ON /FAN OFF temperatures (to keep the car running at 180° instead of 220°) which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dan! Do it! Your performance will only improve! I bought a 50$ chip burner and 10$ ultra violet chip eraser, and reburned my factory chip ASTY i think it was. After changing my fan on/off temps, I reburned my erased chip with my own bin - changed for temp only. Now my car never creeps up to 240° in traffic! You're welcome. Thank you for the link. I did mention in the video that you can get a programmer and read the chip, but for a first look, finding a posted file is easier. Incidentally, the moates site seems to be down and apparently they are no longer operating so I need to look for an alternate.

@@bitsofwisdom460 Actually, as I think I did not use burn software from moates - I used the software that came with the burner. Moates had a burner + software, but I opted to go it alone - old video gamers burn and copy chips with these things - so i figured its just a binary file- Like theirs so I took a chance on generic burner. It was REALLY interesting - erasing that chip with UV light!

So get this! 1988 Cavalier Z24 2.8 mpfi engine 5 SPD trans with digi dash, 262H Cam 24lb fuel injectors, 3500 valves, etc... would getting a chip from the lumina Z34 3.4 dohc motor make this run good🥴🤔

While a fuel or spark curve from a different engine might be possible to try by copying the calibration into another chip. An entire chip from a different design engine and car will usually be very different and not compatible as a direct swap

@@bitsofwisdom460 What made me think why this has a chance to work is there was somebody who made a K-body Dodge Daytona Shelby Z, made it make 300hp and the only way to tune it good was getting a prom from a 5.2L V8 Dodge Van!!! I gotta try out of great curiosity, I am toning down to 19lb injectors so... Can't wait, about 1 month it should be all together and running
