Pretty much identical, except I use Tek3s. I also have my pod on a 6" HP hose and for the reasons you cite; it links to both left and right hand dive computers but there's also the analogue SPG in case you have to isolate.

Thanks for answering that question! I probably won’t dive twins anytime soon, but still it’s interesting.

It might not come up with your axial ports for secondary reg and inflator hose, but I've been told to run the inflator hose on top, so that it doesn't interfere with the secondary when letting air out of your BCD.

I run my pressure gauge off the right hand post and follow the inflator hose over my left shoulder and attach ot to my inflator tube with bungee cord.

The idea behind SPG on the left post is, that you are able to see that your manifold valve is closed.

Can you take about carbine fiber tanks. I see a lot of regulars that go up to 300 bar. Also if you are diving with twins is would be allot less weight for traveling and just in your car

Hi! Love the video. Question related to the color of the hosing. Do you make any consideration about the color that you choose. Maybe like red o blues are not likely to be seen or any consideration like that. I love the idea of getting each size with one color. #askmark

#askmark How would you recommend setting up for side mount? I think the hose going to my low pressure inflator is too short There's a buzzing with the audio just to let y'all know.
@Teampegleg
@Teampegleg 3 жыл бұрын
It isn't really that complex. Traditionally it is left side, short hose, and inflator hose on the fifth port. Right side, long hose and drysuit hose on the fifth port. Sometimes the drysuit and inflator are switched, but there is a lot less complexity as you have less potential for an unnoticed roll off.

I take your point about the isolator but still think you have a single point of failure, Re breathing the last I swap regulators every 15 minutes, also I didn’t mention it would include different first and second stages, I had both first and second stage freeze in cold diving (at different times). When the group surfaced three people with top of the range same model had experienced temporary freezes, we never found rout cause, all three recently serviced at different times and by different companies.

Yea there's a good argument for using completely different regs on each post. The only single point of failure is the isolator valve. The core would need to fail which is pretty rare. Then you'd have to rely on a buddy or backup buddy.

I'm thinking that if you need to isolate the two tanks for whatever reason, then you have no way of knowing how much air you have left without a second SPG. Is that an issue?
@DimitrisKambanos
@DimitrisKambanos Жыл бұрын
So good video. But you can use each tank as separated with off the manifold and you can use the second tank as a backup. Also can you use each tank with a different gas for a technical plan in your dive?
@LarsDennert
@LarsDennert Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting consideration. You could fill them with different gases and keep the isolator closed. You remove redundancy at depth and risk accidentally mixing the gases to an unknown or hazardous O2 or N2 state. I've not heard of anyone doing that because you won't be carrying enough bottom gas to need that much deco gas. I guess a 50M deep air dive and a 50% deco for a long 20M exploration is a possibility.

There is one very good reason not to angle those 1st stages, although it is highly dependant on the design of the first stage! And this is the round end, or worse a round black rotating plasitc cap, such as fitted to my SP MK25's feels incredibly like a cylinder valve knob when you are doing a valve reach-around, and you can turn that cap for as long as you like and it's not going to have any effect!!! If the 1sts are angled it can position these caps very close to the actual cylinder valve knobs and in a panic, i could immagine it would be very easy to make this mistake. Probably not an issue with your DST regs with no caps though ;-)
@timgosling6189
@timgosling6189 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the DST's aren't ideal for this as they partially obscure the valves, but they do give easy hose routings with the fifth port kit. I'd use them for side mount but not twins.

I currently dive single cylinders but i expect to upgrade at some point in the not too distant future to twins. I currently have one 12L but i intend to set up two 12L as my twin set up. Do i just need to get an additional 12L cylinder as well as additional first stage and get these all rigged up? Or is it easier to do away with the lot and start fresh/from scratch?
@LarsDennert
@LarsDennert Жыл бұрын
You've probably discovered by now that you need different tank valves that accept the isolator.
@rubikfan1
@rubikfan1 Жыл бұрын
Why not use them at the same time? Basicly use them as a bigger single tank?

Do you really need two first stage regulator for twin sets ?
@simplyscuba
@simplyscuba 2 жыл бұрын
It can be done, but, it's better with a redundant 1st stage should something go wrong
@harrodharrod5239
@harrodharrod5239 2 жыл бұрын
You don't really NEED to, but apart from the obvious benefit of having A LOT more air on you, it's the second main reason to go doubles. When diving in cold water (think under the ice, or during winter in general), there is serious risk of getting freeflow due to ice crystals forming inside your reg. Having 2 1st stages transforms crisis situation that requires buddy breathing or immediate end of the dive to minor inconvenience.
@sibat777

I worked up a similar rig a couple of decades ago but in order to have 100% redundancy I separated the tanks and had a full 1st and second stage on each tank without the t bar. Meant you had to switch between regulators throughout the dive and rigging the buoyancy was tricky (basically I ended up with in tank hooked to suit and one to the jacket. Your setup is simpler and provide close to the redundancy but I wondered on your thoughts about going that one step further to get 100% backup. I was going to add a small pony to provide tertiary redundancy but never got round to that. The rig was designed for extremely dangerous conditions (like Dave diving) where a major failure however unlikely would ‘ could be terminal. Any thoughts greatly appreciated
@timgosling6189
@timgosling6189 3 жыл бұрын
I see no advantage in deleting the manifold connection. It allows you to breath both tanks evenly and in event of a problem there is always the isolator valve. You actually degrade the main advantage of a twins rig over side mount. There's a reason this is the GUE/DIR standard! I'd hate to be in the situation where you have to donate your necklace because you've already breathed down the right cylinder.
