That over travel is manufactured into the design for longer range zeros. Example: You zero your rifle at 250 yards and want to dial down to 75 yards, the turret gives you the option

Better / less confusing way to do this is to take the camber (top cap) completely off. Then with flat screw driver botton out the scope reticle (clockwise). Then start moving the reticle up and count the clicks (counter clock wise). When it moves all the way up, thats the range of your scope reticle movement / adjustmant. Back of the elevation screw 50% (clockwise) / move reticle back down 50% of the clicks you previously counted. Now you reticle is exactly in the middle of scope range of adjustment and hence the most steady and reliable. I like to adjust my zero to be towards the bottom 25% of the range of adjustment of the scope, so i take of the turret and bottom out the reticle range with flat screw driver moving it down, then add about 10 MOA up (counter clockwise). Now you zero you rifle at 100m. Slide the zero stop like he describes. It is good to make sure that you windage range of adjustment is also set in the middle of the adjustment range. You never know how it came from the factory. That's what is done in the military.

this was exactly what i needed... my reticle was so high up in the ranger of motion, i only got like 6 clicks before it stopped. ended up doing this method, and found i had 340 clicks of scope reticle adjustments. went and did 1/2 (170) clicks down, and now my CDS-ZL2 can do the two full complete turns. THANK YOU.

Thanks for watching! I believe it is/was a Burris bubble level but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve had so many scopes/bubbles since then that I don’t remember exactly. I run an Accuracy 1st scope level on my comp guns and Flatline ops HaloX on hunting rigs.

I understand the reason behind dialing below your zero but I do not like the fact that a zero stop does not stop on your zero… am I miss under standing something or is there a way to actually have the zero stop stop on zero?
@bobbyventura55122 жыл бұрын
The zero stop does stop on your zero. You aight the rifle in and then you set that adjustment as your zero, and the turret shows this at zero. Meaning before you do any elevation adjustments, you’re shooting on zero. If you want to start going further out you start having to make elevation adjustments and windage adjustments. I

OK so how do you set it for the windage? You only showed how half of the system worked
@highcountryoutdoor2 ай бұрын
@@Canadaman4403 it’s the same as all other scopes. Adjust the windage dial left or right to move your POI to match your POA. Once your POI is set to your desired POA, remove the set screws on the windage dial and set it to “0”. Retighten the set screws and you’re done.

Question. I’m using this on my built out 22. To zero in at 50 yards (which is where I’m usually at for my 22), I had to go over a full rotation. When I set zero there. I only have 1 full rotation left. But I should have more. In that scenario, is this the process you’re describing here where I loosen all the screws and just spin the cap a few rotations and then lick back down? Will that then give me forward rotation again, last 1 full rotation? How do I completely reset this?
@JohnyBravo442 жыл бұрын
Thats because your original start point of adjustment is already very high. Check out my commet above.

I feel like I must be missing something... I have the vx3i 4.5-14 X50mm CDS ZL with the 30mm tube. Right out of the box I cant turn the elevation knob down at all to site in without removing the cap. How is this a helpful feature??
@highcountryoutdoor4 жыл бұрын
Timmothy Ames during the first sight-in session the turret cap must be removed and the zero lock feature disabled so that you can adjust the turret as necessary to zero your rifle. Once the rife is zero’d at your desired range then you set the zero lock and return the turret cap. Now you can effectively dial up the turret cap to adjust for elevation changes at longer range at any time and dial the turret back down to your original “zero” at any time. The zero lock prevents the turret from being dialed down to low beyond your zero or sighted in position.

Having shot Nightforce NXS scopes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE these turrets. Where do I find them. I have tried numerous Google searches. Are these on a VX-6 scope?
@highcountryoutdoor7 жыл бұрын
Jim C these are available only from Leupold. They are called the CDS Target turret and are only available on the VX-6 line I believe. Cost about $140 to install plus the CDS turret.
@Chrissers20107 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick reply! I am getting in touch with Leupold's custom shop today. There are some good sales on the last generation VX-6 scopes. It looks like the mechanical workings of the turret (under the cap) are perhaps different than what is stock on the VX-6 with CDS. I don't have a scope in hand so I can't verify for sure.

P.S. I am trying to cut weight on my lightweight mountain rifle which currently wears a Nightforce NXS (30 ounces). Leopold VX-6 looks like a good option being closer to 20 ounces.

I emailed photos of your dials (screen shots) to Leupold Custom Shop and they referred to these as their "VX6 Target Tactical Dials". I then ordered a VX6 today (old model) at a pretty deep discount from Natchez, 10% off the already low sale price, which ended today. Thanks again for your quick reply! I don't know if you frequent the Eastman's hunting forum. I go by Umpqua Hunter on there.

Im so damn confused.
@dougcherry75174 жыл бұрын
I see many confused bout the zero lock. I have a ZL scope with zero lock. Mine came with a silver lock button for the zero lock. Here is how I did it. I used the turrets to center my bullets on the 100 yard target. I ended up at three minutes up on my top turret. I loosened the screws holding the top turret in place. With the screws lose I turned the turret clockwise so the zero was back on the mark. With the screws loose only the zero stop moves the actual minutes do not. If it clicks then the screws were not lose enough. Once the zero was lined up with the mark I tightened the screws. Now my zero was set at 100 yards on bullseye. At the same time I was testing about 12 different loads with the gun and settled on one I plan to shoot. This will be the first free dial I order. If I can find all the ballistic data Leupold needs. If you wanted to set you 100 yards at the 1 mark instead of 0 like I did you can do that by just moving the dial so that 1 lines up with the mark instead of zero. The 1 will be your 100 yard mark. I just wanted mine to be able to lock at 100 yards.
