Are you talkin about an eastern blue tongue skink bc the need a lot more humidity then a northern and aspen is not ideal for a Easter use forest floor substrate or repti chip 👍

@@LuvvEOJ no, Easterns need LESS humidity than Northerns. They occur in the south where it’s often dry while Northerns occur closer to the equator where it’s more humid. It always irks me when people base their humidity requirements to Northerns when their requirements should be comparable to blotched and shinglebacks instead as they live in the same regions.

Pine and Eucalyptus both have oils that can be harmful to lizards/reptiles... and I wouldn't think would be a part of the natural habitat for the Blue Tongue skink. Eastern Blue Tongues live on soil. with ground cover such as grasses and leaf litter. It's probably better to use leaf litter, etc without dust and oils and a better substrate they can burrow into.

Hey mate great video, im just wondering if i can use hardwood mulch from bunnings for my northern bluey is that ok?

I used hardwood mulch before with mine and I find it way too chunky and full of random trash like wet cardboard and bits of plastic, any leftover substrate in the bag will also go mouldy before you need it for cleaning day. Try euci mulch, it’s way better!

Hi! I have a question about substrate; specifically the eucalyptus bark. If I purchase that from my local hardware store do I have to worry about parasites like mites or anything else?

Hi Brittany. Great question 👍 we always treat any substrate from a produce or hardware store for mites. We do this for open bags of substrate too as a preventative. A product like Callington enclosure mite spray is best. Open the substrate bag, spay with more spray and clip shut for atheist 10-15 minutes.

Just been gifted a 4 year old blue tongue, fairly sure Eastern as dark with few light stripes. Should I have food (pellets provided) out all the time? Cheers 👍🏻

Having food constantly available would risk the bluey getting obese or the food going to waste. They have slow metabolisms, since yours is an adult it should only be offered food once or twice a week. Also pellets are not a good diet if that’s all you’re feeding it, they need variety such as offering at least 3 different brands of high quality wet dog food with fresh fruit and veggies.

I thought pine shavings were toxic to blue tongues? I'm using coir peat from bunnings mixed with play sand, is that OK?

Hi mate. The coir peat and sand mix should be ok as long as the humidity doesn’t become a problem. If it starts getting too wet it will hold bacteria and grow mould.
