The hiding and not wanting to eat is completely normal. :D I left mine alone for the first week and draped a blanket over half the enclosure so he felt secure. After 6 days he was scratching at the glass and ate right out of my hand! I love him so much. Best lizards ever in my opinion.

uh hi! I really love blue tongue skinks and want one in the future, could you give some advice? like what do I need to do for the enclosure? do they climb? etc etc

@@14_Scar_14 Hi! The enclosure depends on the type of skink. I have a Northern who is currently in a wooden 4x2x2. The substrate needs to be at least 4-6 inches deep as they love to dig, so a mixture of top soil and play sand can work quite well, although I use the Earthmix from Arcadia. I often find mine buried in the morning. :) It's a good idea to provide lots of hiding places and cover so they feel safe, such as caves and fake plants. A lot of people will tell you these lizards don't climb - the truth is they LOVE to climb, however they are rather poor at it. I offer lots of things for him to scramble over that aren't too tall, such as bamboo roots, rocks and cork bark tubes, to reduce the risk of falling. A piece of slate under the heat lamp creates the perfect basking spot (as seen in this video!) Personally, I've placed a three-layered slate cave under the basking bulb which mine absolutely loves. It's also a nice idea to offer a large but shallow water dish as they seem to enjoy sitting in them, but they aren't the best of swimmers haha. There's a few really good blue tongue skink Facebook groups that are awesome resources for beginners. I highly recommend joining those. :D

@@synnesilentweb I need your help since you have a skink I'm setting up my cage for a blue tounge skink I'm getting soon but I seen a lot of videos on KZbin for setting up cages for the soil add bugs to the soil do you need to do that I personally don't whant to have little bugs crawling around the cage or possibly getting out or like for your reptiles what soil or litter do you uses

I really want a Blue tongued skink to be my first reptile. Are they rare to find at a reptile expo and are they too expensive. My budget for buying the skink is around 300$ I just want to know if you can find them there and their not to hard to to find and buy

@@FireChicken747I know I’m a little late but I would actually recommend going to a good reptile sanctuary before going the expo route. I live in AZ and the phoenix herpetological sanctuary is great! even if you don’t want to adopt one there, you can get some great info on their care. I’m also planning on getting one as my first reptile.

Question: how do you clean the terrarium? Like do you take all of the substrate out and replace it or do you kind of just pick up poop you find?

Nope I just spot clean. The tank is bioactive so the isopods, worms and springtails take care of other things :)

Do they need anything to help them shed, like a humid hide? And what about northern BTS since they require less humidity?

I'd imagine a deep hide would help with shedding. I haven't had an issue so far with shedding because its so humid haha

Don't give him Fosters. They hate it. Bluey's only drink VB, Tooheys or Crownies. And a few meat pies on a Saturday arvo when watching the footy.
