Thanks PK I’ve never crabbed in Oregon during my previous visits, but I sure am planning to partake on my next visit thanks to your awesome videos 🦀

Awesome!! I just bought my first ring trap and I’m gonna try these methods from a pier out here in the Gulf of Mexico for blue crabs. Thanks for the great video

Thanks PK. I have a ring but really only used it on the pier and not like you did here. Seems like it will be very time efficient; if you are going out there, you can easily do 8 pulls every two hours! And the ring is cheap too.

PK Great underwater photos and commentary on crab behavior. It seems not matter what you use to catch crab you catch lots. There must be tremendous crab populations in OR. Looking forward to another of your successful surf perch videos and commentary how to read the surf.

Lafayette, Louisianian here! We CAN use those for blue crab! We have a green crab ring just like that and use it for when we go crabbing! :) Another method is just tieing chicken drumsticks or thighs to a string and tossing them out (from a boat or land) and then pulling it up to catch it with a fish net!

I am from central Alabama. No crabs unless you go to the gulf. I went crab fishing bout 25 yrs ago on the gulf with this type of trap. All we caught (and released) were small crabs. Would love to go with you one day and watch you catch your fill. I love the underwater shots the most.

You can use spray flex seal to rubber coat your net making it stronger and snag resistant

Hey PK my family and I are going to be in waldport on the 20th. I was wonder if we should weigh down our pots and nets, if we only crab from the doc.

If crabbing from a pier do you need to add weights to the hoop (like chainlinks or any other type of weight) so it stays on bottom and not move around that much?

We use Northern Pikeminnow, a fresh water trash fish that the crabs go crazy for and the seals have never raided.

Good stuff PK....I live in Salt Lake, but my family and I just returned from the Oregon coast (our favorite place). My two boys and I limited on Dungeness crabs in less than two hours. It is just as you depict in the video, pretty easy, just pull fast at first so they don't escape. We were in Nehalem Bay, not 7 feet of water :) Where was this video shot?

Nice. Glad you guys limited out. This was in Waldport.

On the East coast we have blue crabs which are super aggressive you won't be able to grab them from the net like that lol.

Any tips on keeping them from flipping upside down? I go to the pier in Newport and my ring occasionally comes up upside down for some reason and I lose all of the crab. It might be because there are a bunch of lost pots stuck on the bottom and it was never sitting flat to begin with.

I go to the pier to and I don't really have that problem.

Shield Spear I put my GoPro in a regular pot one time and it was amazing how many there were down there. I was only halfway down the pier and the stack was probably 5-10 feet tall or abandoned cages. No wonder the fishing is rough there.

@@Hot-Dog-Racing wow really? Do you still have the video I kinda wanna see it. Next time im going to try to snag some of those to get them out.

Shield Spear here’s one of the videos. It doesn’t really show the pile, but other videos I had did. It’s insane how many are down there. It would’ve fun to go diving there. instagram.com/p/B0CzL1NHzRZ/?igshid=1dikz6tbszu07

You might want to adjust the sound during post production in your videos. The sound changes from left to right about 4/5 of the way through.
