Excellent tutorial. There have been some changes to the wacom settings application (namely, the pressure sensitivity slider), but even so the krita settings take care of it. In short, this tutorial is still valid using latest versions of both apps in Dec. 2017. Thank you!

I know that this is old, but just in case anyone else is facing the same problem; try to open the driver (Wacom Tablet Properties) first, and keep it opened in the background BEFORE you open Krita. Then launch Krita and it should work. I am not sure what is causing this bug though.

your video is useful , thank you . Wacom is the gold standard, but pricy . I've got a XP-Pen Artist 15.6 drawing tablet monitor 16" and after configuring the pressure curve correctly, it does the job! (I'm using it on Windows & Linux) . Im using the xp-pen with Krita everyday and works great.

@Golden Joy it is really disappointing. I know krita is free and a handful of people work on it and it's bound to have its bugs but this problem is a crippling one for any artist or user. I uninstalled it and went back to my older version. sad really, cuz I really liked some of the new filters and features.

Actually working with a MSP 16 too. I'd say find a good stand - it's hard to find. I'm using a roost stand with pegs. It works but it's not necessarily the ideal setup for this computer

Hello, I have a problem with my brushes in Krita, and I'm hoping to find some help. I'm using a Cintiq Pro 24 P and my pen works well inside the program, but when I place the tip on the canvas itself, the brush appears somewhere next to where I'm pointing. I checked the tablet settings but nothing I tried could solve the problem. Do you have any tips for what I could do? Thank you!

+Vandré Brunazo As I said, I recommend soft settings. Then, it's a matter of taste - you have to try it out for yourself. I can't give a setting that will work for everyone, that's why I didn't say exactly what to pick in the video. In the Wacom driver, I'd say pull the pressure sensitivity 1 or 2 times to the left. Then, in Krita, I just don't recommend pulling the curve down because it will make it hard to reach high pressure. And having to press hard on your tip will: 1. Cause both the tip and the tablet's surface to wear fast 2. It might cause tendinitis in the long run So for the Krita pressure curve, anything going up or keeping a straight line is fine, it will just depend on what works for you. I'm struggling to make sketching smooth. I sketch but the cursor is slow on the canvas, and ends up skipping onto the window and moving Krita around in its window. It's rather annoying!

Hello! I love your video its very easy to follow! but I was wondering if you could answer my question. I also have a cintiq 13hd but whenever I use it, the krita application seems to be really magnified on the cintiq. For example the krita bar where you have the option of enlarging the tab or exiting it is about the size of my pinky finger. however when I saw your video it looked to me as if your krita application is "normal size" on the cintiq. I was wondering if you know anything to help me lower the size of the cintiq or the krita application ?

I am trying to use One By Wacom with Krita but no matter what it seems to draw to the side and ignore the mappings. I have full tablet area and using portion of the screen where the portion is selected to the drawing area in Krita in my monitor1. It is just drawing to the side for some reason. Any ideas?

What about the panning tool (to move the canvas around). When i hold spacebar and pan it using my pen, it works. But when i use the upper button on my pen it shows the hand, but it doesnt move/pan the canvas. Help would be much appreciated, thanks. I'm using a Wacom Bamboo CTH-670

This was somewhat of a good video but I do have 1 big problem and thats Twice in the video You present a Setting to...Set and then say "Personally I don't use it so I'm not gonna show you how to do this". First with the eraser (which while annoying not the biggest deal) but then you do it with the Express key buttons on the side which for some people (like me) is a VERY big deal especially since you assume that people know the keyboard shortcuts which A. Ignores the fact that some notable shortcuts (Like the Redo) are completely seperate functions on Krita and B. Assumes everyone knows Keyboard shortcuts off the bat which some people dont (Luckily I know the basic shortcuts but again those shortcuts are completely different functions on Krita). Its like presenting 5 doors to a contestant for their prize saying the contestant can choose from any of the 5 doors except "actually wait PERSONALLY IIIIIIII wouldn't choose door number 3 so nevermind you cant choose it" like that ignores that the person may have wanted that whats behind door number 3 and unnecessarily drags the time out Either Present the Option and show how to set it up or just cut it out entirely, dont just tease a viewer with something they'd want to know and then not show em. Anyhow other than that good vid but sad I have to keep searching to find out how to set up my express keys.

What resolution and/or preset do you use when drawing?(such as A3 or A4 presets in Krita) I usually set mine to A3, but still find it displeasing that the picture can appear pixelated after zooming even a little. Do you think its just that I have to get used to the resolution?(Since I used to use Adobe Illustrator that sharpens the image even when I zoom)

Illustrator is a vector drawing program, which is completely different. When you zoom in, it re-renders vector shapes. In Krita, you're painting with a fixed resolution. Using the A3 preset, the document is dense enough so you won't see artifacts on an A3 sized print. If that's your goal, everything's fine. I work with different presets, as I make game art - at 2 times my highest target screen resolution, often 2560*1440 (for a 720p game) or 3840*2160 (1080p)

I don't actually have a problem with the resolution itself when I fully zoom out, I simply feel personally uncomfortable seeing the pixels. Anywho, knowing that it doesn't really bother you, I now know at least that it shouldn't bother me, and I'll try to get used to the fixed resolutions.

I'm currently using a HUION since I've heard good things about them, but I don't know if it's me or the tablet, but pressure sensitivity seems to jump from small to large with very little in-between so I don't get very good size transitions. Changing the weight doesn't seem to help either. I thought it was originally the tablet, but the previous one I had, which was a monospace (which I understand is the same company or model) did exactly the same thing which was the reason I got the HUION. Anyone know about this?

how do you feel krita stacks up against mypaint for tablet drawing? I understand that Mypaint was made with tablets in mind, but I don't want to clog up my PC with art software, and I really like kritas extra features.

The main thing is that Krita is a much more complex application than MyPaint. There is a specific version, Krita Gemini, that's modified for the needs of tablet users. I think it's available on steam and costs a few dozens of dollars. If your problem is that you don't have access to a keyboard, you might still be fine with the regular builds. But maybe not out-of-the-box. You'll have to increase the size of the icons in the toolbox, and maybe customize your toolbar a little bit.

They're not like that, it's just that they have a lot of work. The stabilizer was slow in recent releases, but it was meant to be fixed. Here it works ok, aside from the fact that a small distance setting adds a ton of smoothing, thus brush lag.

Did you open the "Wacom tablet properties" App? If you opened the new "Wacom Desktop Center" instead, just click on the "Pen settings" option and you'll get the window showed in the video.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Yes drawing on the computer isn't like drawing on paper, and it takes a lot of practice to get used to it. If you enjoy doing art as a hobby just keep doing what you like. You don't have to force yourself to use the computer if you prefer drawing on paper

You have to get in touch with the developers to fix an issue like this one. It seems you have a fairly uncommon device. Do you have the exact reference of the product so I can check its specs? I can't find it on Google. It's likely linked to the device's driver.

Ah, that's most likely too weak to run Krita. Does the brush lag, but it catches up after a while? If so, that's the program rendering the stroke.

GDquest Doesn't draw at all. When I click the brushes it selects the one I want with no lag, its like its frozen on the layer but no where else.

It's hard to help you not seeing the issue. This can be due to preserve alpha being on, or a selection being active. But it might also be linked to your tablet's pen driver that's unsupported by Krita. It's not listed in Krita's supported devices: docs.krita.org/List_of_Tablets_Supported
