Great video! I had a question on the console setup: Do you have the Mixamp Pro powered on by the console or PC?
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! So in this case it doesn’t matter UNLESS you intend to use the mic on an a40s. The USB powers the amp and also dictates where the mic input shows up. But if your using a separate mic then the usb can be plugged into either - even the wall. The audio from the goxlr is coming in through the aux input on the mixamp and the game audio is coming in from the hdmi audio extractor. In my case? I actually have the usb plugged into my MacBook Pro (my work machine). That way I can use the mic on the a40s for work calls/ phone calls. Conclusion - if your going to use the a40s mic then plug it into the machine you will be doing voice chat on. Otherwise whatever’s more convenient! Hope that helps! If you have more questions feel free to ask 😀

I know this is an old video but I'm looking to use this set. I'm trying to understand how the game chat feature would work on the gaming pc ? Since the optical is coming from the the streaming pc, how woukd that work. - I am thinking you could forward your game chat to the goxlr viw usb but then that you would not have the option to tune betweek game/chat audio. A bit confused is all.

I've been thinking about this for a single pc with PS5, and I wanted to know if you have a way to confirm this would work. PS5: - Capture card VIA HDMI (other hdmi goes to monitor) - Astro A40 MixAmp USB Plugged In here VIA USB PC: - GoXLR - USB from Capture Card GoXLR: This is more complex, but it would be something like this: 3.5mm AUX with ground loop into Astro AUX port from GoXLR headphone jack(This would carry all PC audio from GoXLR into the Astro) I can't 100% test, but i'm 99% sure this should allow the following: Astro A40's should then: - Allow PS5 audio - Allow PS% PARTY CHAT (this is a big one that is often hard to make work without extra cables) - All PC audio routed from GoXLR headphone port. I'm pretty sure this setup should work perfectly and have the best of all worlds (aside from the headphone mic not working on PC).
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
hey there! ok SO let me make sure im on the same page first. The goal here is essentially to plug the USB directly to the PS5, therefore capturing game audio that way. Additionally use the Astro A40s mic to do voice chat through the PS5 "system" (not sure what the ps5 chat is called - I have a series X so use to that 😃) Ok so by running an aux from the headphones out on the GOXLR into the Ground Loop then to the aux in on the mixamp - yes this will bring all your PC audio through the mixamp to your headset. So you are correct there. Now for the game audio through USB - aka without using an HDMI audio extractor to run an optical cable to the back of the astro mixamp. So let me answer this in 2 ways. (1) I am familiar with the XBOX series X, and will say in that case yes, this would work in bringing game audio directly to the Astro Mixamp, since when the new gens came out Astro pushed out a new update for their mixamps to allow game audio capture through the USB. The one drawback here though from what I recall is that the game/voice balance gets funky / doesnt work right. The amp was designed so that any audio captured via Optical cable would auto be assigned to the Astro "Game channel" and any audio captured via "USB" or "Aux in" would be asigned to the voice channel. Therefore the update from astro to allow game audio capture via USB assigned all audio to the voice channel so you lost game /voice balance - this was at least true back when the update came out with new gen and I tried this scenario out. (2) Your on PS5 - and if I recall correctly something about that "new-gen-astro-mixamp-update" that was pushed out to allow game audio capture via USB didnt work on playstation, so astro came out and said the mixamp would only work with a PS5 with an HDMI Audio extractor. Now that was WAY BACK WHEN (whats it been 2 years?) new gens first launched, and MAYBE they have fixed that issue with PS5s. In both cases (1) and (2) by plugging in the USB directly to the console you will be able to chat through the system. That is true and has always been true even before new gen as the USB dictates where the mic will work, and will capture voice chat. THOUGH ANOTHER WARNING - your chat with your fellow players will be secluded to the mixamp and youll need a way to get that audio to your stream assuming you want voice chat heard in your stream. You can use the stream port for that to run an aux cable from IT to the line in on your PC - but I highlyyyy reccomend using chat through the PC via discord - and using push to talk. A simple USB pedal (like 10 bucks on amazon) will do the trick 😉 SO CONCLUSION - If im wrong in (2) above, and these days PS5 game audio can now be captured via usb, then yes you can use the USB to capture game audio directly to your mixamp independent of your GOXLR. NOW FAIR WARNING, you still need to capture game audio for your stream, and without an HDMI audio extractor your options here would be 1. capture it directly via the capture card as a seperate audio source in OBS from the GOXLR audio source, or 2. if your monitor has an aux output you can run a 3.55 mm aux cable from IT to the GOXLR line in (this is why an hdmi audio extractor is so useful, it outputs audio via aux and optical simultaneously so you can capture it for yourself and your stream). - With the above though again, using USB on the console to capture voice and game means the mixamp will capture all audio and send it to the voice channel, so you wont be able to balance game/voice/everything else. HOPEFULLY THAT MAKES SENSE AND I UNDERSTOOD YOUR QUESTION CORRECTLY. If not or you have further questions, feel free to ask away!

Hello, (This has been edited, but only minutes after originally posting) I have two questions, both concerning your dual PC setup. 1. I have a Go XLR mini, which has 1 line in and 1 line out. Looking at your diagram you have a "Line out -> Stream PC Line in", so that takes the 1 line out on the Go XLR mini. Then you have "Stream PC line out -> aux splitter, HDMI Audio Extractor line out -> aux splitter, Aux Splitter -> Go XLR line in", so that takes the 1 line in on the Go XLR mini. At this point the Go XLR mini has no further line in or line out ports available. Now at 9:11 in the video you explain "then run an aux cable from the line out on our Go XLR into the ground loop isolator and then from the other side of the ground loop isolator, run another aux cable into the aux input on the back of the Astro MixAmp Pro". However looking at your diagram you have 2 aux cables going into 2 different line outs. As I stated, the Go XLR mini only has 1 line out. This is the issue as the diagram cannot be completed. On the front of the Go XLR mini there is a 3.5mm mic input, as well as a 3.5mm headphone input. After watching another video it seems as if this 2nd line out may be the 3.5mm headphone jack (green). Any clarification on that would be of great help. 2. I do have a capture card but it is not inside the PC. It is not a DVI method that you mention in the video. It is an Elgato HD60 S+ capture card, meaning the capture card has two HDMI ports, one goes into the GPU on the gaming PC and the other goes into the GPU on the stream PC. Now, in your diagram you show an HDMI cable going from the GPU on the gaming PC into the capture card which I assume you mean to be a PCIe capture card which is internal. You then show an HDMI coming from the stream PC (you don't specify whether it's from the GPU) into the HDMI audio extractor. Here is my question. I do have an HDMI port available on the motherboard of the streaming PC. As I mentioned, the HDMI port on the GPU of the stream PC is in use by the capture card. Am I able to use the HDMI port on the motherboard of the streaming PC to go into the HDMI audio extractor? I did my best to make this all as simple as possible. Hope to hear from you!

Heyo! I am going to answer your questions in seperate replies. So for number 1! So yeah I said that wrong - when in doubt see the diagram itself and its labels. If you click your link above I say "line out" but my diagram shows "headphones out -> ground loop isolator". Thats what I meant there your running an aux cable from the headphones out to the ground loop isolator, then to the mixamp line in. CONCLUSION: Trust the diagram over me :)

For question 2! Ok so first thin never ever ever use the hdmi on the motherboard unless you have to. I wont go into detail about that here but theres videos out there explaining why you should leave that MB hdmi out alone if your interested. So with your capture card im a little confused. The way that external capture card works is as follows (we are going to ingore the mixamp setup in this write up): 1. Plug USB cable from capture card into the streaming PC. It is through this USB cable that the contents of the capture card are transferred to the streaming PC. 2. Run HDMI from gaming PC HDMI OUT to capture card HDMI IN. At this point - your gaming PC is captured. At this point technically speaking, no further HDMI cable is needed to "capture" your game play. At this point you could open OBS, add your capture card as a source, and see your game. Now granted you may have captured your gameplay butttt you want your gameplay on your monitor/tv as well right? See next step. 3. Run an HDMI cable from the capture cards HDMI OUT to yor tv/monitor. Now you see your game on your tv monitor and OBS. Note that NO WHERE IN THAT INSTRUCTION did we run an hdmi cable to the streaming PC. The GPU only has HDMI OUTS and DP OUTS, it cannot "receive an hdmi signal". So the point of that is to say - if your running an hdmi cable into your GPU - I dont think thats doing anything - the hdmi cable from the CC's HDMI out should go to the minotir. But in the case of the mixamp hookup, it would go from the CC's HMDI out -> HDMI audio extractor -> HDMI to monitor. BONUS TIP! That external capture card will HEAVILY LIMIT YOUR FRAMES PASSTHROUGH - like to a max of 60fps on your monitor. One way to get by that is to hook up the CC exactly as described above, but then also run a DP cable from the gaming PC directly to the monitor. Then in your display settings on the gaming PC, mirror the display of your main monitor in DP mode ONTO the capture card - no passthrough limits! Ifg you have further questions or need further clarification feel free to ask - your also welcome to jump in to my live stream and ask me questions if thats easier!

@@tacetmort3m heya bud. Yeah you are welcome to jump into a live stream and ask about it of course! But note, I have owned a few external capture cards, and they are all basically the same. Again this is assuming im understanding what your doing correctly, which is you are running an HDMI cable from the back of your capture cards HDMI OUT to your GPU. Capture card or not, this does nothing - since the GPU cannot recieve an HDMI signal it can only send one out. HDMI does not cary information beyond video and audio data - it has no ability to establish drivers and other key requirements that are only accessible through a USB connection. A capture card internal or external really is a simple device - it uses the fact that a GPU autimatically assumes any device it connects to via HDMI or DP cable is a "display adapter", and basically does a screen record before sending that data off to your monitor. Its like playing catch with 3 people. If you throw the ball to jim and jim throws the ball to sally, well its the same ball just being passed in a chain. A capture card is basically a scenario where jim snaps a photo of the ball real quick every time its passed to him and before he passes it along to sally.

Okay , follow up to my question yesterday, I now have an hdmi going from monitor to hdmi extractor and then another hdmi going from extractor into my gpu (single pc set up) my output is goxlr system and input is goxlr mic on the next tab of sound settings it’s goxlr broadcast stream, I don’t have audio using the system channel However when I right click on the broadcast stream in sound settings I can enable listen through and then select my monitor hdmi audio which then allows me to hear everything through the goxlr system channel Does this make Sense? My question would be does using the hdmi into my monitor affect my frame rate? I’m using the 4K hdmi extractor Another difference from diagram I noted from previous comments is that : 1- use goxlr headphones aux not the line out aux when connecting to the mix amp 2- using the aux port on mix amp not the stream aux port Is this correct?

So you never want to "listen through" if you can avoid it - adds latency to the audio source. On a single pc setup the classic goxlr setup works: sounds >playback tab set system to default and goxlr Chat to default communication. In sounds > Recording tab set goxlr Mic to default device. to do the audio for your game, you want to output that to your hdmi audio source. aka sound settings > App volume and device preferences > find your game and tell it to output to hdmi. If you dont see your game in the list, your not running your game (app must be running to showup in that list) for (1) yes use the goxlr headphones jack not the goxlr line out. (2) aux port yes. aux port on mixamp is an input the streamport is an ouput. You want to INPUT all your goxlr audio into the mixamp. For the framerate stuff - it will not assuming you got the extractor I listed in the video description

hi there. So no there is no audio extractor for display port. The main difference between HDMI and Display Port is the audio - hdmi carries audio information with it whereas display port does not. With that said you can still use your display port cable - I do. Hook up everything like the video and additionally run the display port cable from the monitor to your gpu. I havent done this for a single pc setup fair warning but if you hook up both of them then you should be able to simply select the hdmi audio source in settings > sound settings > game sound ouput nad be good.

@@RunStunNGun Your use case brings up a lot of questions, and how it effects your setup depends on how you intend to use the goxlr if you plan to continue to use the a40 mic. Are you single PC? Dual PC? Console + PC? But the short answer is yes if you continue to use the a40 mic it will effect the setup, since there's no way to send the headset mic through the goxlr interface. For your second question - unless you have a very specific situation, never use the motherboard HDMI slot for this setup, or any setup. If you ever have to use that port, it will be because of a very unique non-gaming related situation. Always GPU.

Hey there, So without seeing your setup i can only add some things to check. First things first do you hear game audio in your headphones? Game audio is being shared with the alerts in this situation since both are going into the splitter, so if you hear one and not the other then you have a cable issue somewhere or your not setting your alerts to output to the line out. If you hear neither, in your routing table you need to make sure your sending line in to your headphones in the goxlr.

I feel obligated to also say that with a dual pc, these dys I actually no longer reccomend hooking up your goxlr to the gaming pc. In my opinion it is beter to use it on the streaming pc so you can take full advantage of its features. This also eliminates the need of a splitter, as you can now take the game audio coming from the audio extractor and plug it directly into the streaming pc's line in on the motherboard. Just a heads up on that!

Thanks man! I would assume that yes you could do that. The ONLY issue there is if you stream, and you run an optical cable from the gaming pc directly to the mixamp, then how do you get game sound to your stream? That’s where the hdmi audio extractor is nice because it lets you output the audio both as an optical cable and an aux cable. Aka you send the the optical cable to the mixamp and a clone to the goxlr via aux cable. So basically if you want to use the optical out from your gaming pc you’ll need to find a way to take that game audio and output to both the optical out and some audio channel on the goxlr. I haven’t used it but I believe voice banana can be used to do this? Hope that helps!

@@Cano_ Awesome yeah exactly so that will do the trick! - I know that one has an aptical out but does it have an aux out? If it doesnt then you may run in =to trouble. Astro called that the "PS5 Adapter" but its not specific to PS5 in any way. Its a straight up HDMI Audio Extractor and can be used with any system that outputs an HDMI signal. ONE THING TO BE AWARE OF THOUGH - I believe I had read once-upon-a-time that this secific HDMI adapter limits you to a 60fps passthrough. What this means is that in game you wont be able to achieve above 60fps. That may be fine for you, especially if your capture card is already limiting you to 60fps passthrough (most external captures cards as of today do), but just something to be aware of! The one I show in this video and list in the description does not limit your passthrough. Hope that made sense! If you have further questions feel free to ask!!

All this is if the motherboard on the PC dosnt have a optical out correct? I don’t see why you would need the hdmi audio splitter
@itisBop
@itisBop Жыл бұрын
so that depends really. If your trying to achieve what this video is showing, which ultimately giving you the ability to create a stream mix and a YOU mix, you need the extractor regardless of the motherboard. This is because this device allows you to output the game audio via Optical and aux at the same time. If you use the optical output on the pc MB, then you will only have the game asudio coming out of the optical (no duplication).

Indeed. The reason is because it doesnt matter. In this setup we are using the mixamp for its preamp and audio enhancement features - not the mic. The usb only matters for (1) powering the device and (2) powering/establishing the astro headset mic. Since we arent using the astro headset mic in this setup (at least that is the assumption given the goxlr), it doesnt matter where the USB is inserted. So it can go to the gaming pc, the streaming pc, the console, the wall outlet - as the long as the mixamp is powered :)

hey there! So this method I did just for additional audio control, though the same can be applied with certain dac/amp combos if they are designed with multiple audio channels (aka a voice channel vs game channel that can be "balanced"). Your headset is a high ohm headset if im not mistaken so in your case with the right amp you should get both - better quality + control. These days my main headset are the dt880s from beyerdynamics and I use an amp with a second goxlr mini to achieve both better audio quality and additional control.

Does this set up allow a person to utilize the Astro command center EQs? I had someone on Fiverr show me another way to hook up my mix amp with the goxlr by pretty much just setting the stream mix in the recording tab of the sound settings and enabling the audio to play through the Astro mix amp voice channel, this works ok but the EQs don’t seem to be as effective. @itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man and thanks! So actually I have my GoXLR setup through my streaming PC as well - There are a few reason this is NOT the most common way of doing it: (1) Most people have a STRONG gaming PC, and a much weaker streaming PC. So the idea in a dual PC setup when this is the case is put as little strain as possible on the streaming PC so OBS will run at its best. Now if you have a beefy streaming PC - this doesnt matter. (2) GAME CHAT. The downside of connecting the goXLR directly to the stream pc is that is where the mic is - or at least this is an argument? But you can get past this by simply running an aux cable from the line out on the back of the GoXLR to the game pc line-in - and selecting line-in as your mic on the gaming pc - and your good. There are a bunch of advantages also to having the goXLR connected right to the stream PC - for one you can seperate audio into many different tracks so you can remove music from vods, and remove alerts/music/voice chat from local recordings - etc. When the goXLR is connected to the gaming pc you get a single track in OBS on the streaming PC so you have limited control over audio in OBS. SO POINT IS - IF YOUR STREAMING PC CAN HANDLE IT I reccomend the GoXLR being connected right to the streaming PC. Now to your questions. For talking with your astro a40 mic -you can use it yes but how you want to use it makes a huge difference. When I get asked this question I imagine one of 2 scenarios (1) You have an external mic plugged into the GOXLR that your stream hears - but your voice chat in game does not. You want to use the a40 headset for voice chat - aka a40 mic is for voice/party chat and external mic is for twitch chat. (2) You do not have an external mic, a40 is what you got so you need to use it! If your (1) ill say I highly reccomend using your external mic for everything - and using push to talk to achieve what your trying to achieve with 2 mics. For example I have a simple 15 dollar usb pedal thats my push to talk. When my foot is not on the pedal and I talk in the mic, only twitch hears me. When my foot is pressing down on the pedal, twitch AND my party chat is hearing me. If theres ever a time I want party chat to hear me and not twitch, I use the goxlr mute button that mutes my mic ONLY TO THE STREAM MIX OUT. This is push-to-talk :) But if your in this situation and you intend to go forward with it - simply plug the usb of the astro mixamp into the streaming pc - and in your discord settings set the astro mic as your input - and your good. If your number (2) and the a40s is your only mic - well I reccomend getting an external mic - GMAE CHANGER MAN!!! But in this situation same as above, plug the usb into the streaming pc - and in sound settings recording tab set the default input device to your astro a40 mic. In OBS you will have to add the astro a40 mic as an auxilary input in the audio settings - so youll have at bare minimum in obs your goxlr stream mix as input 1, and your astro a40 voice as input 2. Note there is no way to get a headset microphone to work THROUGH the goxlr, since headset microphones work via the usb cable not aux cable ( thats not entirely true there is a way using the stream port on the mixamp, but it gets real complicated if we go that route ;) Hope that answers your question. If you have more let me know happt to help :)

it sure will! Its a mixamp so really any method that involves the audio going through the mixamp then into a headset means that audio can be EQ'd by the mixamp :). The dolby surround sound though comes from the machines capability in conjunction with the mixamp. I personally fnd that the goxlr sounds better going through the mixamp in stereo mode with EQ tweaking, but if you like the DDS sound then go for it, just make sure you set your goxlr audio sources to such on your computer that the goxlr is plugged into -

So I have no experience with sound cards sadly - but the conccept should be the same. If your sound card has an optical output and an aux output for example then your good, run that opt cable to the mixamp, and the aux output to the line in on the goxlr - then just like in the video diagrams run an aux cable from the goxlr headphones out, into a ground loop isolator, then into the aux input on the back of the mixamp. Now you hae game audio coming in from the sound card to the mixamp via optical cable, and game audio coming into the goxlr line in via aux from the sound card. Really whether your talking about an HDMI Audio Extractor, a sound card, ANOTHER audio interface - the point is always to try and get an optical cable to the mixamp - it works best that way and you get that game/voice balance. The key though as always is getting that same game audio to the goxlr, seperate from the audio sent to the mixamp, to be pumped into your streaming software. So in your case the sound card IS the hdmi audio extractor - assuming it has optical and aux outputs. Just make sure to go into settings > sound settings > sound settings for apps > and set the audio output for your running game to the soundcard. Hopefully I got that right! As I dont use sound cards no guarantees here BUT that setup above feels like it should work.

@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. This video is about how to use a GOXLR and an ASTRO MIXAMP PRO TR together while getting all of the functionality and features out of both. So ultimately what you get out of setting it up like this, is the ability to balance your game audio vs. everything else without effecting the audio going to your stream. Basically the ability to balance game vs goxlr. GOXLR balances audio of course, you have a fader set to game, a fader set to chat, if you turn the game fader down and the chat fader up - boom - youve "balanced" it so chat is luder then game. But that change will be heard by you and your viewers. In this video, with this setup, you can do that same thing on the mixamp except when you do it, your stream is not effected since we didnt touch the goxlr audio, we just turned some mixamp wheels. I expain this better in the videos intro ;).

@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there. So just some clarification first - make sure we are on the same page - the mixamp has 2 wheels. Bigger wheel is a volume wheel the smaller wheel is the balancer. So turning the smaller wheel shouldn’t make the overall volume louder, it should make either the game or voice more prominent. With that out of the way when I say “voice” here, it’s really game vs “everything else” not voice. If you followed the setup in the video then as you k ow you’ve sent all the goxlr audio to the mixamp via its aux input. The mixamp takes that aux input and sets it to the “voice channel” and takes the optical cable input and sets that to the “game” channel. So if your hearing game audio regardless of what way your turning the small wheel and you’ve set it up correctly, the only way that is possible is if either your game is not outputting to the hdmi source and/or you have the option checked in your goxlr routing table to send the line in audio to your headphones. So assuming all is hooked up correctly - tell game and only game to output to hdmi source (if you have a capture card that hdmi source is the one that has your capture card name in it). Then in the routing table make sure your not routing the goxlr line in to your headphones.
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
To answer your second question - well I kinda answered it in my first reply. Your mixamp knows internally that if the optical cable is plugged in what to do with that audio. It auto sets the optical audio to the game channel. In this setup we don’t need to do anything to the mixamp on the computer itself - we are simply using it as (1) a passthrough for our headphones and (2) as a standalone device to give us some extra control over our audio. It does this all automatically. You could plug the usb cable from the mixamp into the wall instead of one of your PCs and it would still work correctly doing it this way.

Hey there so a lot of informationt here and not sure if I am fully following. But the jist of what your asking I believe is - is there a way to use the playstation party chat where you hear them, and they hear you via your xlr mic - So far I have not heard of a solution for this unfortunately no, though I have never owned a playstation but heres my understanding: Mics on consoles are "registered" via a usb. With that said on xbox you can make a mic work via a 4 pole aux cable going into the controller but for that to work the device outputting to the controller has to be setup to use the 4 pole mechanism. If your unable to move to discord (which is my first recommendation) the best option I think is to use your xlr mic for your stream chat, and use the a40 headset mic for party chat simultaneously. To get party audio into the mixamp - well just setup the mixamp as you normally would on a ps5, then use the stream port to send party chat audio either into the line in on your goxlr mini or the line in on your pc seperate from the goxlr.

With that said if thats not an option for you it is possible but only by hooking up the mixamp usb to the console, and running an auc cable from the mixamps stream port to the line in on the PC. The negative here is the aux cable to the pc wont go through the goxlr, so it will be a seperate aduio source on OBS. With all of that said I always reccomend to try and consolidate all your audio as much as you can - aka just use xbox game bar or discord for streaming :)

Hey man, I wanted to say thanks for the in-depth tutorial on getting this set up. I am finally about to get good audio in my headset while streaming while also pushing that audio to the goxlr for my stream to hear. With that being said I have just 1 question. I followed your single pc setup to a tee, and just wondering am I supposed to still hear what my goxlr/chat hears? Mainly just music and system sounds for stream alerts. I have Spotify set to “goxlr-music” and verified my chat can hear it, I can even adjust the volume up and down on my goxlr and chat hears the changes. Same with the system sounds. I just cannot hear them. Is there any way around that?
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
you should deffinately hear everything from the GOXLR that you want to hear yes. So first lets double check the setup (you said you followed the diagram to the tee, so this is just me crossing the tees and dotting the i's)> -We have an hdmi cable going to the audio extractor, then an hdmi going to the monitor: THEREFORE hdmi audi is being captured -we have an aux cable running from the audio extractor to the line in on the GOXLR: THEREFORE hdmi audio is being output via aux cable to the line in channel on the goxlr. -we have an aux cable running from the HEADPHONES OUT on the goxlr to a ground loop then to the aux in on the top of the mixamp. Note there are 2 aux inputs on the mixamp - ones labelled stream ones labelled aux - you want the aux one. THEREFORE we are sending all the audio proccessed from the GOXLR to the mixamp (at least once we setup our routing table correctly ;) ). - We are running hdmi audio from the extractor optical out to the mixamp optical in: THEREFORE hdmi audio is beign caputred again. - USB from goxlr is plugged into the PC. Ok thats the wires. But if you stopped there we would still be screwed. Now you said in sound settings you set spotify to the goxlr-music channel. Good stuff - now check your routing table on the goxlr. If your stream hears the music and you do not then my guess is your not sending audio from the music channel to the headset on the goxlr routing table (remember since we ran an aux --> mixamp --> to headphones - the mixamp is an extension of the goxlr headphones). make sure theres a checkmark on the table cell that represents music/headphones. Now do that for all the the other audio channels you want to hear in your headphones. One channel you should not do this with is the line in channel right? If you sent goxlr line in audio to the headphones you would get double hdmi audio since we are running hdmi audio directly via optical cable. NOTICE IM CALLING IT HDMI AUDIO and not game audio - thats because its not game audio yet! We have to go into sound settings and tell the GAME to output its audio to HMDI. Otherwise it will output to the default goxlr system audio - we dont want that. Give that a try let me know if it works - and let me know how it goes I want to make sure this works for you!!

@@itisBop ok so the 1 part I had wrong is with the hdmi cables. I had an hdmi cable plugged into the “hdmi in” on the audio extractor. Does it matter where the other end of that hdmi is plugged into on the pc? Meaning GPU or motherboard. When it comes to plugging an hdmi into the monitor, that’s the part I did not do. So 1 end goes into the game monitor, the other end of that hdmi goes to the “out” on the hdmi audio extractor box correct? I have since plugged an hdmi into the “out” of the hdmi audio extractor box, other end into my game monitor. I can now hear and control my music and chat (discord) audio on the goxlr. The only issue I’m having now is with system audio. When I move the slider up and down, it does not change the volume for stream. I can of course move the dial on my mixamp but that only changes the volume for me. In my sound settings, master volume output is set to system, while the input is set to broadcast stream mix. For the game, I have the output set to my monitor hdmi audio, and input on default which would be broadcast stream mix - goxlr. I am so close I have to be missing just one small thing for the system audio but I feel like I’ve tried everything. In the goxlr routing table, I have system checked for both headphones and broadcast stream mix. I also have line in checked for broadcast stream mix
@itisBop

@@crofter6737 hey man! So the first question you had yes it very much matters if the hdmi comes from the gpu or motherboard. So in this case and any other cases you should never ever use the motherboard hdmi port unless specifically told to - so run the hdmi cable from the gpu. For your system channel - based on your message I think you may be misunderstanding what that channel does. That channel is a channel like any other channel - it does not control the overall volume of the goxlr. It will only control audio that is processed through it. In this case your game is not processed through it it’s going through the line in channel on the goxlr - your music isn’t processed through it it’s going through the music channel - do this: play a KZbin video on your browser and you will then be able to control THAT with the system fader - because since system is the default audio output and you didn’t tell chrome to output anywhere specific it will by default go through the system channel. If your having a volume issue on stream aka you need the audio to be louder adjust the individual channels to do that - aka the music channel chat channel and line in channel. They can all be controlled via the goxlr.

Hi Roekyle. So fyi your PC actually has no hdmi inputs. All hdmi slots on a pc are hdmi outs. Never run a signal to the pc you run a signal FROM the PC. I’m guessing your getting this impression because in my diagram I show an hdmi cable running from my gaming PC to the STreaming PC - but double check the labels in the video diagram - what I’m simulating is that for most dual PC setups people go with an internal capture card on the streaming PC. A capture card installed inside the PC like the elgato mk2 (probably the most popular capture card for a dual pc setup) does have an hdmi input. Happy to help if you have other questions :).

Hey bingo. So I have seen that issue before when NOT doing what this video shows you to do. aka if you do not have an optical cable plugged into the mixamp that can happen. So I think to help you figure this out I have to thro a question back at you -- Did you setup your system as shown in the video? For where to hook up the usb for the mixamp - it doesnt matter. When you plug a cable into the optical port on the mixamp, and an aux cable into the aux input - it triggers the device to seperate those 2 sources into different channels - this is why the mixamp works on consoles - because it reacts to what its being fed. The USB cable only serves the purpose of (1) providing power to the device, (2) allowing you to use the a40 mic through the system the usb is plugged into and (3) allowing you to create the game/chat channel balance on pc using a mixamp driver (we dont care about number 3 here though since we ARE plugging in an optical cable and aux cable).

Hey there! Ok so from your message it sounds like you are using the Shure mic plugged directly into the goxlr and not the a40s headset correct? Aka the a40s mic is not in use (if it is in use that changes things so let me know!). Now in the windows sound settings - default device is the goxlr system channel, default communication output is the goxlr chat channel, and the default device in the recording tab is the goxlr mic input channel. Now what you want to do now is tell the “game” to output specifically to the hdmi audio. The name of this is different on every system - but most of the time it’s like your monitors name. Aka if you have an asus monitor it might say “hdmi asus awsu2121 high definition audio” or something like that. You do this by going into the sound settings > and select the option to change audio for specific apps. In the list that appears find your game - change the output to hdmi. Once you do that, and if you set it up like my diagram, the game audio will come into the goxlr via the line in and the mixamp via the optical cable. I know it feels weird not doing ANYTHING with the mixamp on the pc - but that’s actually correct if your not using the a40s mic. Your getting allll your pc audio into the mixamp via aux cable in this setup rather then through the usb. In fact switch the lever on the mixamp to Xbox mode so it doesn’t show up in your sound sources and tempt you 😀

@@aaronmcgruder9693 hey there! So to use the a40s headset - you simply make sure the mixamp is on PC mode (assuming your on PC) and select the Astro voice channel as the mic in the sound settings recording tab. If say your in a situation where you want to use a seperate MIC for stream but the a40s mic for chat - then you can set the Astro voice as the input for discord or the game specifically through the settings > sound settings > app sound settings menu as described in my comment above. Of course if your using the astro mic for everything both voice chat and to chat with your stream - theres no way to do that with the GOXLR - so to add that to your stream you would have to add the Astro voice as an additional Auxilory input audio device in OBS/SLOBS along side the goxlr audio source. Hopefully that answers your question :). If not let me know! Truth is theres a number of ways to set it up and get crazy with your audio. In my setup - I have the usb on the mixamp plugged into my work laptop so I can use the headset mic for work calls/meetings - and then I use a crazy web of aux cables and splitters to send audio nto the mixamp from a goxlr in my gaming pc, a goxlr on my streaming PC, and the audio from my mac laptop. Its literally a system of many splitters, ground loop isolators, and aux cables.

@itisBop
@itisBop Жыл бұрын
you would not. If your not streaming or do not have a need to create 2 versions of your audio then the extractor is not needed. The extractor method just gives you back the ability to use the mixamp for 2-audio-channel balancing WITHOUT effecting audio coming from the goxlr. So for you I would simply just run an aux cable into a ground loop isolator, then from the isolator into the aux in port on the back of the mixamp - and your done. You might as well STILL use the mixamp since the a40s will sound much much better that way.

So it does not matter where in the chain it is in order to get the audio no - the chain being the gaming pc to the capture card to the monitor. With that said I personally place it at the end of the chain. Aka hdmi from gaming pc to capture card hdmi in. hdmi from capture card hdmi out to hdmi audio extractor hdmi in. The reason for this is to avoid any possible loss of quality/performance of the hdmi signal in its route to the capture card by making that connection 1:1. I have experienced no latency nor quality/performance issues using this method.

@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Job great question. So I did not point this out in the video as it can somewhat depend on the audio extractor your using, and whether your console/PC - some audio extractors out there even have a 7CH for example. So my advice here is to set it to the 2CH. The higher channels are for surround sound purposes but the mixamp works by taking in a stereo audio input and then virtually creating surround sound from that (that is if you set the mixamp in dolby mode, enable dolby atmos, or windows sonic). In addition the GOXLR expects to only recieve a 2CH stereo input always. SO 2CH! Start with that! If you have issues with the 2CH setting, then and only then set it to 5CH and see if that works instead. If you have issues on both those settings, and your sure your HDMI cables are of adequate speed, then you might have a bad unit.

Hey! If you dont have a mixamp and an astro a40s then mostly this video doesnt apply. You can still use this video to help you with your setup, but no audio extractor would be needed since you dont need to cloned versions of your game audio. This video is really about how to use a goxlr and a mixamp together to seperate game audio for complete control. Without a mixamp, for a single PC setup, you just send game audio via the system audio default. For a dual pc - you could run an aux cable from the line out on the gaming pc to the goxlrs line in on the back of the goxlr. For your headphones, youll just plug your headphones directly into the headphones jack on the goxlr. HARD TO PUT IT INTO TEXT :). But though this video may be helpful for you in setting things up without a mixamp, most of it doesnt apply. (2) You could be asking about whats the best sound settings as in choosing your default ouput/default communication/default input devices If so I would just go with the classic goxlr setup of: - Default Output Device: GOXLR System - Default Communications Device: GOXLR Chat - Default Input Device: GOXLR Mic - Then in the sound settings > app audio > set any game your playing to the HDMI High Definition Audio (so its picked up by the HDMI Audio Extractor!) (3) Lastly you could be talking about adding effects/properties to the individual sound devices - aka windows sonic, audio bitrate. For me I make sure the audio bitrate is at 48000khz always for every device, but otherwise I do not touch it. I prefer stereo clean and raw audio on my A40s for competitive games. NOW IF YOU DID NOT MEAN (1) (2) or (3) damn haha! In that case let me know below and I will try to answer your question :)

@@itisBop I was talking about number 2 so thank you :) so do I control the game sound a things with the mix amp or the goxlr? I’m just confused on how adding the mix amp makes it better?
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
@@Leafsfreak13 gotcha cool. So The mixamp adds 2 things to your audio setup: (1) The a40s and the mixamp were made for one another. So the a40s simply sound best when coming out of the astro mixamp pro. The mixamp pro much like the goxlr is a preamp - designed to enhance the audio output. Where the goxlr is a standard preamp, the mixamp is a preamp designed SPECIFICALLY for the a40s. (2)Seperate Game/Voice balance - and this is the big one. Let me explain this with an example. I play Destiny 2, and I do both end game PVE and a whole lot of PVP. - When I am doing a 6 player raid where communication is key (6 voices all working together) I tend to turn my game audio down low and my voice comms up high. I dont need to hear much game but I do want to hear EVERYTHING from my raid team voice comms. - When I am doing pvp, I want to hear audio ques from the enemy team, so I want the opposite of above - more game, less comms. COOL! We have established 2 scenarios where I would like to BALANCE my audio differently. And the GOXLR does that! It has a dedicated chat channel, a dedicated game channel, plus a whole bunch of other channels! So why do I need that on a mixamp!? BECAUSE if I balance on my goxlr for that PVE raid as an example, that audio change (game way down, voice comms way up) gets reflected on my stream. Now my stream is hearing a whisper of game audio with blaring voice comms. Thats not good audio - thats poor audio for viewers. Your viewers arent playing the game you are - and as such no ones going to enjoy you changing your audio non stop in the middle of a stream. Audio balance for production is important and an art - once you get it right dont touch it! SOOOOO by adding the mixamp though - since we are not ouputting the audio going into the mixamp to our stream - we can balance that as much as we want! We can turn game sound off, we can turn chat off, we can do whatever we want to the balance coming into the mixamp WITHOUT EFFECTING THE AUDIO GOING OUT TO OUR STREAM :) ------ YOUR STREAM hears the GOXLR ------- BUT ONLY YOU hear the MIXAMP For further clarification - when you send audio into the aux in on a mixamp that audio is auto-asigned to channel 2. When you send in audio through the optical input on a mixamp that audio is auto assigned to channel 1. So When I say game/voice balance on mixamp, what I actually mean is game/goxlr balance - since your pushing game audio directly from the audio extractor and your sending in your goxlr audio through the aux input. FINALLY to answer your question "do I control the game sound a things with the mix amp or the goxlr?" - BOTH! You hear the mixamp, your stream hears the GOXLR :)

Apologies my man. This is the first video I had done using video editing software. My background is in music, not video - this is a new endeavor for me. The balance seemed correct in the software - the final mix as is in this video though the music is far too loud. Will adjust accordingly next time ;).

@@itisBop thank you for the assist! I figured out where I went wrong but there's another issue I ran into: getting my Xbox party chat to come through my stream. I think I'm going to have to get the splitter.
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
@@justshayne6067 I can help with that - no splitter should be needed. So is it an xbox going to a capture card in a single PC?
@itisBop
@itisBop 2 жыл бұрын
@@justshayne6067 so based on the Xbox comment my guess is we have a capture card in some sort of pc. The way to do Xbox party chat is to use the pc for the Xbox party chat (windows Xbox game bar or the Xbox app) rather then directly on the Xbox. This will allow you to use the chat channel on the goxlr as the output for your voice communication.
