In this video I am showing you how to set up and configuring your GoXLR to give you the best possible audio quality for your streams and recordings from a console. The GoXLR is an amazing audio device that acts as a mixer, interface, preamp, and sampler all in one, but sometimes it can be a little tricky setting it up to a console and configuring the options to get the right sound, which includes gamechat and party chat from the console. I appreciate you watching the video.

Understand something brother. This is exactly how a video should be when it comes to explaining what people need to do in order to get something to work. Good shit. I do have questions though. Will this setup still work with the MixAmp pro tr for PS5? And if I have a FiFine audio mixer instead of a GoXLR because I’m poor😂? I know FiFine doesn’t have it’s own software, so would I just add all of those tracks via ONS

Thank you so much for saying that! I have learned a lot from putting this video out and would like to a more budget friendly option because support for GoXLR is hard to come by now as well. Nothing wrong with the fifine as long as it works. Comments like this and others that verify this works are awesome, I never expected so much feedback and for it to continue 2 years later. I can try to get my hands on a Fifine mixer and redo the video with some of the things I have learned over the last couple years. Updated 2024 guide for console streamers coming soon!

Okay what I did for the PS5 is get a USB sound card, two aux cables that go to the line in/out on the GoXLR. Now I can hear the audio and send the XLR mic to the PS5 and PC. For the Xbox since it doesn’t support a USB sound card, a splitter is required and this needs to be plugged into the controller. Many ways to skin a cat so just posting my solution. If you want you can get a audio extractor for the optical cable back, for the newer gens.

@@Kilo_A2K What are your thoughts on Rodes new Streamer X? Capture card and digital mixer in one, I like the software aspect, sorta like Elgatos Wave Link. Sounds easier to setup though as you just route one of the usb ports on it to the console 😊
@Kilo_A2K

@@haies09 I just took a quick glance and it does look easier to set up. The price seems kind of high for what it is, but being a console streamer is niche and they seem to be the only company tackling this avenue. If money were not an issue, the streamer X coupled with something like the beacn or wave link software and stream deck (which most streamers probably have anyway) would be absolutely good - so long as the Rode software is good.

Well dude, was hyped when I saw your video in hopes that I'd finally get my GOXLR to work with my xbox series x in game chat. However, your method didn't work for me. Done exactly everything the way you did. Thought possibly my cables might have been faulty so I even used your links to order new ones. (you're welcome) But sill didn't have any luck. I believe it's because of the update on the firmware. And this was an entirely new hornet's nest. I spent many hours just trying to get the new firmware to update. Tried manually and everything. I've watched tons of vids and read tons of content on this issue. Some have had luck, but others like myself have not. Anyways, this "puppy" is going back to BestBuy and I'm going back to using my A50's with a very large paperweight (GOXLR) remaining on my desk until someone out there comes up with something new and different.

I am setting up an entirely new PC and will be going through this the exact way I have it here for verification. It is entirely possible a firmware update of some sort has stopped this from working, so I will ensure in my new test that everything is up to date. Its probably going to take me a couple weeks to be able to post a video as I am traveling for work a lot this time of year. If you have any recommendations on an update to this video (should everything work out still) I would love to hear them so I can capture every step of the process. I will be completely honest, this set up is still working on 3 computers (though 2 of them are nearly identical, 1 is a laptop with a GoXLR Mini).

@@Kilo_A2K I believe you. Bugs happen. It's just pathetic on Astro's behalf that they can't find or post solutions or update their own software and firmware properly. Especially after charging over $200 on something that doesn't even work with what they claim it works with. I am going to mention the issue with totaltech first since I'm a member and if they believe they can address the issue then great. If they are hesitant then I'll just do the return and start blasting bad reviews all over the internet on this product.

I couldn't answer that without at least knowing the mic you are talking about. Does the audio jack just let you monitor your voice? I know the Elgato Wave mics have an audio jack on the mic, but they are usb. I do not think the GoXLR is capable of sending the rest of your audio through the XLR cable, so unless the audio jack is also a cable you can run into the GoXLR, I want to say the answer to your question, is no.

My whole set up atm is console to astro hdmi extractor to GOXLR mini and capture card to monitor and that's not mentioning the odd usb extender and optical cable ect.. to make all the audio work with my console.. I have to now somehow find a way for my new astro mixamp to work with it all.. not one video on KZbin with all that connected 😅 it will help as I stream too when I'm not making videos. I have speakers set up with a splitter. There is probably a more sophistaced switch type thing you can pick between headphones and splitter if needed, I just turn speakers off when I am not using them. You will likely get interference unless you mute the mic depending on how close the mic is in relation to the speakers and whether you have Monitoring selected.

Hey @Kilo_A2K, I have a few things that are different and hope to have some questions answered. I got the astro mixamp plugged exactly how it is with my GoXLR Mini to my Xbox Series X but I'm still not able to get my voice to the console. Q1: Does it matter what specific aux cords and splitter I need? Q2: I have a GoXLR Mini, will that be an issue since you are using a GoXLR? Q3: Could I still get my voice through without having the aux cable plugged from stream port of the mixamp to the line in on the GoXLR? I already have console audio with an optical cable and audio extractor from Xbox to GoXLR Mini. Q4: I wanted to try using Voicemod as my main mic to sound out to the Xbox, do you know if that will be possible with my GoXLR Mini? Let me know as soon as you can. This idea of talking to console game chat from goxlr with voicemod has been my issue for months!

Lets see if I can. It has been a while since I watched my own video so I do not know how much I go into this, but before diving into buying more cables lets ensure everything works on its own. Route a aux cable to your controller instead and see if your audio is present. This should work straght from the GoXLR) If that works then in theory the MixAmp should work. Ensure its updated, switched to XBOX (Not PC) and if still nothing, check your splitters and aux cables to ensure the poles are correct. (For instance, a 2 pole or 3 pole aux cable does not have the capability of pushing voice like a 4 pole) A1: Assuming you are referring to the poles (or segments) on the aux cable/splitterr connector. I do beleive it matters. My cables may not be the correct (logical) cables, but in some cases you can use a cable with more or less poles and some you just cant. My set up is the exact set up that I used (i hardly play on xbox anymore other than to check if this works still from time to time), and therefore should be enough to work. when it comes to splitters, it is important to note that a chat/mic splitter is not the same as an Aux splitter, so when plugging back into the GoXLR I use the chat/mic splitter. A2: There is confirmed no issue here. The GoXLR and the mini operate the same with respect to the i/o ports we use. A3: This is a good question, and I am trying to picture the logical connections here. I don't see why that would matter, I think the aux cable from the stream port is literally doing the same thing your optical cable is doing (providing audio to GoXLR), as long as you have the aux cable from line out to the mixamp pro. A4: I have avoided using VM for as long as as I have had my GoXLR (granted I have voice changers built in to my GoXLR). The issue I think you will have is the lineout on the GoXLR is strictly for the GoXLR software, meaning I do not think you can inject VM here. Correct me if I am wrong, but you cant use VM to apply FX and hear it in your headphones without something like VM doing the monitoring right? To dive further into your question #4, I can think of a way for you to experiment and attempt this. I do think there is a possibility of making this work, but it would require some testing using the line out port on your PC. If you do not route ANY sound over the GoXLR System, and try to get VM to on its own to go over your PC Line out (in my case it would be the realtek digital output), you can take an aux cable from that port to the mixamp pro (or test with your controller aux port) and see if that works. Just make sure you take all your other sounds off that output port (there is a possibility plugging something into it will make your PC want to utilize it). Hope this helps!

@@Kilo_A2K Thank you for the reply and help. I have done so much researching and video tutorials that I have felt overwhelmed. Trying the mixamp method is the most expensive and around my 4th test that I had done since the beginning of August. (unrelated) saw one of the comments and figured to let you know, Amazon is still selling the astro mixamp for PC/Xbox, however, they're only available with an astro headset and not on its own for $229. In terms of the products I have, the aux cables are Amazon trs cables and the splitter is a Nanyi splitter. I have already tested the splitter with my headset's splitter on both the controller and mixamp and I can hear and speak through it fine. I'm not sure how you mean by testing the aux cables but I heard from a video tutorial that plugging aux cables from the line ports of the goxlr straight to the splitter, connected to the controller, will not work since "it'll be too hot for the goxlr" ~PixelBeard. One more thing, I did find a video telling to update the mixamp so it is already updated and switched to xbox. Got the notification on xbox that the headset is assigned and I have the dolby app to set my xbox audio setting to using the dolby headset. 1. This goes along with the paragraph above. Splitter works but I'm not certain if there's any special aux cable product I should get. Although, I can try and experiment using the cables you linked. 2. Thank you so much for confirming. 3. Good to know. Thank you. 4. I had thoughts of getting a GoXLR than a mini because of the extra features but I guess wasn't sure how you would change voices and do soundboarding to understand. Plus also it's more expensive than the mini. Which was why I use Voicemod for the party chat and discord on pc. But since now that I wanted to try using the GoXLR to communicate game chat, it's been a mess and I never really had gotten to know if it'll work. For now I think i'm gonna use the GoXLR Mini and switch to a regular GoXLR some other time because I personally do feel nervous in experimenting something on my pc without exactly having any sort of instructions and knowing if it'll either work or screw up with my PC. As fun I would love to change voices and use my soundboards on Voicemod, I'm not comfortable in trying to route my line out port of the pc to the mixamp without instructions. I'm not entirely familiar with how realtek digital output works. But thank you for the help. Should I try using the aux cables you linked instead?

@@redzadex4908 im not sure what the pixel beard comment of it being too hot for the goxlr means. As for the cables I linked, as long as the poles match up you shouldnt need them to be the exact ones, but I can only vouch for the equipment I personally use. Its up to you if you want to try them out, but i guess you could always return it if it didnt work. I dont know if I would recommend investing in another GoXLR as the support from TC-Helicon has pretty much stopped. I want to try alternatives to getting voice chat into a console, but there really is not a lot of them out there. Just my thoughts. Its funny, I dont use the sampler on the GoXLR near enough to warrant owning it, and although it was not an option at the time I bought one, wish I had gotten the mini. haha

@@Kilo_A2K Lol, that's funny. I was just wishing to add a little more creativity for my KZbin channel by adding voice changes and random sounds from the voicemod sound board. I could technically do it with exact setup I have if my friends we to call on xbox party or discord but some of my friends are on different consoles and we could only communicate through game chat on Overwatch 2 and I was hoping to have them go through less of the trouble to get them to have a good quality mic when speaking on a phone or laptop on Discord 😂😂😂 But yea, I wish there was something new that can be better than the GoXLR and other device for not only original KZbin gamers but for new generation KZbin gamers, such as myself, to speak into all media calls, party & game chat in one mic and record on various devices to capture good audio and video quality. Plus to even prep up for GTA 6 😂🤣🤣 But again, thank you so much for your help, the feedback, and for the video tutorial. So I changed the first one to music for streaming so I can control the relevant sources during a stream dynamically. I believe the settings are mostly global on the goxlr though, so it really shouldn't matter what faders you have selected. HDMI extractor would only be to pull audio into the GoXLR's input for digital optical. If you are joining XBL parties through the pc app, the console will still feed you game chat. Though, most capture cards should pull your console audio over HDMI.

yeah. on the routing table in the GoXLR app just uncheck the box in the headphone row for Mic (should be the top left box 1st row 1st column)

are you using an XLR mic or a USB mic? Typically that is a sign of too much gain going out or the need for a groun loop isolator. If your mixer is the same as mine (the line out turned down) and you dont feel like that is working, you may need to turn your mic gain down. Glad you got it working though, it sounds like there is just some fine tuning that needs to happen.

I do not have a PS5, but I have had confirmation that it does indeed work on PS5 with one exception and that is you need the astro mixamp HDMI audio extractor (in my experience).

I am going to do another video setting up an Elgato Wave 3 mic with a ~$30 replacement for a GoXLR as soon as the equipment comes in! drastically reduce the price of a decent set up. Thanks for watching!

I do not have my xbox connected to anything anymore, but I could try to do another video using the SteelSeries Nova Pro wireless (which has its own base station that can take the place of the MixAmp Pro). Or you just use the line out of the GoXLR into the controller aux and that would give you audio as well. I haven't had a ton of time to go back and make another video. The other down side is the GoXLR has been basically dropped by TC-Helicon. I wanted to explore recrating this set up for streamers who use consoles and audio setups like a Wave mic.

@@Kilo_A2K You should totally make a new video that helps with "now-a-days" setups. I have an Xbox X and want to have a voice changer come through my stream labs OBS and also Game chat on Xbox. I mainly use my gaming PC just for Streaming. I feel that the GO XLR is still something that can work but I could be wrong as well.
