I understand the same, the FMF programmer only adds fuel to your stock mix to make it richer, never leaner. Going to try some different numbers this weekend based on some recent feedback I have had on other videos.

Looks just like my JD Jetting Tuner. Bought the bike used and didn't know how to make the adjustments. Now I understand, thanks.

+Papparratzi No problem glad I could help. FYI my Raptor 700 Trinity programmer is nearly identical to this one also.
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
Correct. I believe the first 3 settings are for adding fuel to the 3 different modes (acceleration, cruise, full throttle) and the second 3 settings are for calibrating the timing between the different modes. If the first three are set to .5 everything is just like it comes from the factory. That being said, I am NOT a professional mechanic and please don't come sue me if you go blow your bike up :-) Ask FMF directly if you are uncertain, they have a support hotline for questions like these.

Like I also mentioned to the guy who commented before you, I would go sit on a Husqvarna TE250 for bit more and compare them. See which one is more comfortable. For me the DRZ400 was just too big and bulky for the really tight trails and I love that the WR250R can rip all day and not break a sweat. It does have a power curve more like a two stroke though in that it wakes up high in the curve over say 5000+rpm as opposed to a DRZ400 where there is a ton a of low end torque.

Thanks for making this..I was about to order these parts for my wr250r when i came across some negative reviews of the programmer. With this video I feel confident I can get it tuned properly. Thanks agin.

The fuel injection programmer and bigger exhaust help a lot with the jerk. I think the main cause is the stock exhaust and airbox both have little flaps inside that open and close at different speeds and it is really corked up to meet USA smog control laws. It's like one guy said on the thumpertalk forum... Yamaha had to tune them down to get them to pass the environmental tests they put them through, it's up to you to bring the bike back to what it is capable of.
@anthonyjpatti12 жыл бұрын
I tried the stock settings and went for a ride. I took my WRX on the highway and I got to about 65 mph then the fuel cut out. I couldn't accelerate or anything. I moved to the right lane and she went back to normal. I came home, did some research, found your video and tried your numbers. I went out today and spent a lot of time on the highway and it was behaving fine. wr250rforum has a good thread called "Official FI Mapping"

Yes, yes, and yes. Powercore 4 is seriously louder. Buy the FMF Q4 if that bothers your. I bought the quiet core insert for my Powercore 4 so I can make it quieter in about 5 minutes when I need to. Far better off the line and in the messy steep stuff. See thumpertalk for dyno charts folks have posted. Stock HP is about 24 and you can get around 31 with a pipe and programmer. Athena also makes a big bore kit if you really want to pull out the big bucks.
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
One thing that I didn't like about the WR was the jerk. There is a noticeable "jerk" when you throttle up from zero even if you just like barely crack the throttle. No problem if you are rocketing up a mountain or launching off the line at a stop sign but in really nasty tight trails it can be weird at first. I tend to compensate for the jerk by using the clutch when I need to really feather it. This is my opinion having ridding the XT which can absolutely crawl along smooth as butter at 1 mph
@tjsyam92112 жыл бұрын
Cool! Thanks! I found that thread on Thumper talk. From reading the notes I gather that the only settings that change the mixture are the 1st 3 and and 2nd three are for changing the timing in which they (Modes) kick in as you said. So I think the first 3 are the only ones that COULD cause engine damage. BTW....I wouldn't sue anyone for anything I did myself! LOL!

I have never ridden a TW200 but we did own a XT225 for a couple of years and it is the same basic motor as the TW (standard carb thumper). The WR is WAY different. It is far higher geared so if you plan to offroad it then plan on a larger rear sprocket and better tires because the stock gearing is really high for an offroad bike. I found the stock tire to not be so great in the mud and rocks but a pair of Dunlop D606 nobs fixes that. They are just awesome in the nasty stuff and dont wear down.
@phantomshtter12 жыл бұрын
I feel like I'm already sold on the WR but I'm gonna find a dealership and test ride one to see for sure. I'd definItely gear it down a little for a bit better off road performance, I only need to be able to hit 80 max so whatever gearing would put me around that range should be perfect. I'm dying to get on one and feel her out!
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
the XT225 was a blast in the dirt but in my opinion was seriously underpowered for street riding. yeah you could do it but it would take some time to get up to highway speeds. Where the XT225 feels gassed out and ready for the next gear is where the WR comes alive and you give it another 1/4 throttle and feel the bars pulling away :-)
@aimlessimages8312 жыл бұрын
I know this is a super old post, but I'm not reading setting 3 (red) right. If we open the airbox and run a pipe, you most likely need to up the pilot and main on a carby. But the guy on ThumperTalk left his main at .5?

The dealer in my area will only let you sit on it, no test ride. Try looking for one on craigslist. People buy them and then turn around and sell them for half price all the time. You could also find a cheap deal on a used WR250X and throw some dirt rims on it.

Great video 🙂 I love how you researched the buttons printed them out with info and had a reliable source who already had stats for your tuning, I have the Wr with them fmf power core 4 but, I don't have holes drilled in the side for more air should I run it maybe a bit leaner perhaps?

I have a tw200 now that I ride in the city, to work and off road on the weekend but I'm wanting MORE bike. Recently started the dirt riding with with my son and I want more bike there as well. Trails, hills, creeks, mud holes, rocks, jumps etc etc. I need ALL that! Think the WR is right? I loved that it had the six speed and it's fuel injected. I'm digging this bike big time but I want input from experienced owners like yourself for sure! Thanks man.

I have only run one or two other settings. The first settings I tried were the FMF stock settings the other I found over on thumpertalk. Suggestions? I am going to re-tune it again after I install my new quiet core in my FMF Powercore 4 and repack the muffler next weekend. Seems like it has been running a lot hotter this way than before. Planning to remove plastic shroud around the radiator for the summer, should cool her down. My R hovers around 210 F on the trails when it is about 101 F here

oh wait that guy was you lol anyhow I really like the 6 speed transmission on this bike also. It gives you a nice wide ratio of gears and the 6th speed it like overdrive with the stock sprockets. (hence the name WR as in Wide Ratio) She has no problem cruising at 80 on the street at I am 6' 2" tall and weigh 200 lbs with no gear.

Yeah I'm gonna hit Craigslist up, there's one on there now but I gotta sell my TW first. :( I'll wait till winter gets here though, no way I'm missing out on fall riding.
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
No you can richen the mix through the Yamaha digital cluster. google the phrase richen mix wr250r and follow the how to on the advrider forum. the FMF programmer gives you a few more options than just rich or lean on the mix but it is not a requirement, no.
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
If you post yours on craigslist take a short walkaround video of the TW200 being started and idling then give it a little rev. Seems to work for me. People say a picture says a thousand words- well a video says a million lol
@noah4444412 жыл бұрын
No it does not do the same thing as a main or pilot jet. I believe I paid around 150 for mine. Suit yourself buddy. I love this bike!
@Kanaval899 жыл бұрын
Good video, I'll reference this this weekend when I install my programmer and exhaust. Did the programmer+intake & exhaust mods help with the hesitation when you snap the throttle open? rev matching is a pain with this bike at low RPMs. what about the jerkiness between on and off throttle. My Dad's carb'd xt250 is way smoother and has a faster response time.
@phantomshtter12 жыл бұрын
Great idea on the video, I'll do that for sure. Yeah I'm in KY so that's definitely not my bike in Cali. lol Thanks for the heads up though, there's one here though on Craigs, I just emailed them for more info and a price.

I got my new off Ebay but that was in 2008. Prices may have gone up. Also checkout the new street legal Husqvarna dual sports if you are looking for a good street legal dirt bike. They make a street legal 250, 310, 449, and 510 now. You looking for a supermoto with street tires or a dual sport with nobs?

These are the settings for max horsepower with my configuration FMF Powercore4 and Powerbomb header with airbox opened. Your settings may differ as your riding area might be at different elevations and depending on which exact pipe and filter you run. A Dyno machine is the only true test of horsepower. If you are looking for other settings to try head over to thumpertalk forums which is where I got these settings. I can tell you these settings rip it up compared to the stock WR250R!

i got a slip on powercore exhaust and stock header, you think i still need to put this on my bike, and same program that you put? because im not sure if its ok to run my bike without this fuel programer with a aftermarket exhaust
@trailblogger5 жыл бұрын
Yes you usually want to add more fuel to the mix if you install a larger exhaust. It can run lean otherwise. Similar to adding a richer jet if you were working on a carb equipped biked

I'm currently a TW200 owner, I've rode it for a few years to work and around the city (never far) but I recently bought my son an 80 and we've started going offroading. I want a meaner bike for trail riding, mud holes, creeks, jumps etc. etc. It MUST be a better city commuter as well though, that's equally important to me! I think the WR fits my needs perfectly, what do you think???
@Mohglee12 жыл бұрын
are these settings good for city and hwy use? i also have the airbox mod and fmf pipe.
@DmitryG5 жыл бұрын
Can you share link to this instruction?
@noah4444411 жыл бұрын
do you have a pipe and programmer? I had a hesitation off the line and the pipe and programmer help a lot, also removed the airbox flapper and side lid for more airflow. I just re-tuned my programmer for offroad riding since I mainly ride my FZ6R on the street now and the WR250R in the dirt. I switched the last three numbers to 1 1 1 so that it would reach full throttle faster but havent tested that setup on the street much yet. I also just went back to using a 47 tooth rear sprocket which helps

Are the settings good for Supermoto ? Also what if you are running a stock header, looks like you have Powerbomb.

I don't think the power bomb would drastically change the tune from a regular FMF powercore slip on.

I've never rode sumo but it did great on the street in between trails, I think 90 mph on the gps was my top speed with the stock nobbies. When I swapped to the Dunlop 606s I lost some top end as they were a heavier off road tire. Sorry I know that's not the answer you wanted but hope that was helpful anyhow

Better bring more than 5000 with you. My bike was over 7000 with taxes and dealer fees and junk. None of the yamaha salesmen I have ever dealt with really gave a care if I had cash or was financing it. I think they get their commission off the top in either case. Best I could do was threaten to drive an hour south to another city and buy it from that Yamaha shop instead if they didn't at least drop the price a few hundred and throw in a free helmet of my choice up to 200.

All of these settings are fuel added vs stock? Correct? So setting everything on .5 would basically be like running it without the FMF PP installed? Im asking just to make sure when I'm making adjustments I don't leave it to lean and cause engine failure. Ive just been running it with the out of the box settings.

$5k looks the same as $7k in $100 bills. It's just for show that you're holding the sale in hand and ready to buy today. Any salesman worth his job doesn't let a sale walk out the door without starting to bargain. Especially over a test ride around a parking lot. That's the key though, you have to actually leave and not come back. Your phone will be ringing within an hour guaranteed. I've seen it time after time.
