Hello, from the other side of the Ocean. :-) I start with Retropie and switched to Recalbox 6.1 (4 weeks ago) in fact that Recalbox haven't any issues with NeoGeo. Now I add "Dragon's Lair". THANK YOU for your video! With the X-Box controller I can't play the game. I'll check later the game with my wireless keyboard. Next step: A GPi-case. But actual it's sold out and I didn't want to buy it in China direct.

Just did this with my Arcade1up and Raspberry Pi and it worked. Didn't even have to mess with configuring controls! Only difference in this vid is that Daphne is now in the basic install menu not experimental.

The drawbridge scene is when the game has the US Revision E rom set. The other sets don't use the drawbridge scene. Revision F introduced the scenes closer to the order on the laserdisc so that it would prevent the player from having to skip around, saving wear and tear.

Super late to the game, but installed Dragons Lair I and II, and Space Ace using this tutorial, and all 3 are working flawlessly on the Rpi 3/Retropie set up. Followed the video 100% for Dragons Lair I, and then basically used the logic for Lair II and Space Ace. Only hiccup was on Lair 2, I got an error message. Read a few posts down, and this fixed it: You will also transfer over dl2-framefile text file but you must rename it, "lair2". Next will be to attempt to set up my SNES30 controller so I won't have to use my keyboard. Thanks for the great and clear tutorial. My favorite games hands down on Retropie.

First, I have to say that your videos are awesome! Thanks so much for taking the time to do them - really a life saver! I remember using this very video about a year ago when I set up a RetroPie arcade for Dragon's Lair and everything worked perfectly. However, now when I go to grab the Daphne download for Windows, it no longer containers the folder vldp_dl and so I'm not able to get the 3 files you call out needing to copy (movie clip, OGG, and text). Has anyone else run into this problem and do you know where I can get those files? I believe all the ROM files used to be there in the download as well, but they're not there either. I was able to find the Dragon's Lair ROM somewhere else, but not sure about Space Ace, etc. Anyone know what's changed there or have any advice? Thx!

You won't see the drawbridge scene unless you configure Daphne to play a different rom version. I think it is called DLE or something. Then you can see the drawbridge scene. Note that this version of DL is harder too.

If you have a NetFlix DVD account, "Dragon's Lair" (the DVD Video Rom) is available. I used it to download Dragon's Lair. They have DL2 and Space Ace as well. If I remember correctly, Space Ace didn't work (on my PC) using this method, but DL and DL2 work like a charm! [note: DL2 is *MUCH* harder than DL1!] JW3HH

For those needing help setting up a controller: 1. F4 to go to terminal 2. Find your controller button numbers. jstest /dev/input/js0 to test which button numbers are assigned to your physical controller button (hold down abutton and the respective button number will show as 'on') 3. Edit Daphne controller file sudo nano /opt/retropie/configs/daphne/dapinput.ini In this file, the last number is the controller input. 0 means not mapped, so take each button number and add 1 (eg button 0 would be 1) The directional pad on a PS3/PS4 controller was pulled automatically and does not have to be mapped. Example dapinput.ini mapping for a PS4 controller to play Dragon's Lair. @@overratedprogrammer Hi, for Dragon's Lair in dapinput.ini, you will need to map button assignments KEY_UP, KEY_LEFT, KEY_RIGHT, KEY_DOWN, KEY_BUTTON1, KEY_COIN1, and also preferably KEY_QUIT to exit the game. These can be whatever buttons you choose on your specific controller. You'll find the button number mappings of your controller in jstest (add 1 to the desired button number when assigning the value in dapinput.ini). Hope that helps, please reply back if you have other questions.

Thank you SO, SO much. I got it all up and running, 1st try. (I had a DVD from when I first got a DVD player, back when DVD players first became a thing people were getting.) The **only** problem is that I I can only get the vanilla lair.daphne to work; I see other rom sets that have the opening drawbridge scene, and a kind of "continuity of gameplay" where it will repeat the scene you just lost. In essence, how do you play laireuro.rom, or laire_x.rom, not just lair.rom?

After you used Daphne Loader to receive all the Dragon's Lair 2 files and converted/split the corresponding DVD into m2v and ogg files create a folder named: "lair2.daphne". Transfer over ALL of the m2v files (which is essentially smaller, converted, video) and all of the ogg files (sound files). You will also transfer over dl2-framefile text file but you must rename it, "lair2". Hope this helps.

Everything worked perfectly up to time 9:28 on video which is where everything stops loading and the status of this pop-up is continuously waiting. I have the 20th anniversary DVD and my Firewall allows daphne loader through. Even if I shut everything down and try to just try to start dragon's lair this pop-up appears again so I definitely need to get this downloaded somehow. Thanks in advance.

RetroPie Users with Qs, read this!! The game files in Harrison Hacks Daphne Vintage Collection (search over at arcadepunks for it) works mostly great with RetroPie (exceptions: Badlands see NOTE below for more info). I already had Daphne installed on RetroPie after following ETA Prime's awesome instructions and got Dragon's Lair working. I legally (and foolishly as I already owned it in the past) bought the Space Ace DVD and ripped it to get the iso/disk image so I could install it via Daphne Loader. I didn't need to do that I discovered but oh well, I did the legal way! Because I had already installed Daphne on RetroPie (3B+), I downloaded Harrison Hacks vintage collection from the link provided in his video or in the Show More info (take that link and locate the correct file. OR if you're only interested in DL, DL2 and Space Ace go to @t and search for Dragons Lair Space Ace Pack (look for the image of the three DVD games - you can select to download each game separately). I used UTorrent for the Vintage Daphne Collection (never did it before but it was easy) and did the BitTorrent way. So I installed UTorrent and it found my file on Windows 10 and it downloaded the vintage pack. It took about 14 hours and I have a fairly highspeed connection, so don't be in a rush! Once there, unzip Vintage Collection Daphne - It will give you a folder called Vintage Collection. Go into that folder and what you want to do is this: 1A. This is for people who who already have Daphne installed on their RETROPIE 1. Take this path: Vintage Collection/Games/daphne 2. Inside that folder you'll find the laser disk games in other folders, for example, space ace is called ace.daphne or dragons lair is lair.daphne 3. Choose a game. I choose Super Don Quix-ote because I actually played that game in the arcade and had already installed Dragon's Lair and Space Ace as mentioned above. So the folder I needed was called sdq.daphne 4. The 3 files you need are the large MOVIE FILE, OGG FILE and TEXT FILE. In this case, all files were called sdq (for Super Don Quix-ote) 4. Open your RetroPie in Windows Explorer by typing \\RETROPIE (make sure you're on the same Wifi network as your RetroPie 5. Once there, navigate to roms/daphne 6. Create a new folder called "sdq.daphne" or if it's Dragons Lair (lair.daphne) or Space Ace (ace.daphne) - these folders are already the correct names in Vintage Collection that you unzipped. 7. Paste or drag the 3 files (movie file, ogg filed and text file in that new folder (I needed to put them in sdq.daphne) - this can take awhile (20-30 minutes or so) 8. Back on your PC, under Vintage Collection/Games/daphne you'll see the folders and the rom files listed (zip files). Super Don Quix-ote rom is called @t / dragons lair is @t, space ace is @t etc. 9. Copy the rom you want - in my case @t and go to your RETROPIE and paste that into RETROPIE/roms/daphne/roms 10. Go over to your actual RetroPie and restart EmulationStation. You should see the new game under Daphne. Start it and it should ask you if you want to parse the video files. Do that. Once it's installed, play the dang game! 11. Repeat the steps above to install the other games. NOTE: Dragon's Lair 2 does not work with the above method as the m2v and oog files are separated but I figured it out - just upload that ENTIRE directory (filled with m2v and ogg files etc) to lair2.daphne on the Retropie (you'll have to create that folder). You might also have to change the framefile text file to lair2.txt. Badlands doesn't work on RetroPie according to many people who have tried (myself included), Thayer's Quest requires use of a keyboard as it was released in the arcades with a keyboard. Just know that going in. I haven't tried other games as they don't particularly appeal to my tastes and some look downright terrible. Ouch. Troubleshooting: If you are using EG Starts Arcade Buttons which RetroPie recognizes as Dragonrise Generic USB Controllers you might run into issues with your LEFT and RIGHT control commands not working properly with your arcade buttons in Dragon's Lair or other laserdisk games. You will NEED to get another arcade button and plug it into the MODE input on your Player 1 zero delay controller board (I just leave mine hanging in the back of my modded SFII but I will eventually drill a hole and add into the A1Ups J panel between the 2 coin buttons I installed). Once this is done, if you press the button you will change between analog mode (lights up red on board) and digital mode (lights up blue on board). You need to play laserdisk games in Digital Mode (blue). When you go back to regular games, you'll need to press it to Analog (red) to use the joystick to navigate menus (I'm sure there's a work around, but that's just what I do). why doesn't Dragon's Lair show brief yellow arrows to show which direction to go to or when to use the sword like the app version for android. Without the arrows, it's almost impossible to play.

i am hardly tryin to find an instruction on how to config my gpio controls with my rasp.pi3 for daphne.i mean, my joysticks and buttons react, but not the right way, so i am tryin to change the config file but nothing happens. i changed the numbers in third place but the controls stay the same.so i dont understand where i can find the file were it is configurated.i only find instructions on how to config with windows or i guess with a controller like xbox.but i would like to play it with my gpio joypad on my arcade.

Dragons Lair 2 doesn't seem to have the same file format, any chance of a tutorial for that please?

I got to the point where I downloaded everything on Daphne but I do not have the VDLP folder in daphne 1.0, please help

Hmmm...followed it to the letter. Your tutorials always work for me, but this one does not. This was my second try, and I basically wound up with exactly the same error message that the game could not load the frame file. Did they by chance change the file paths that retropie uses for daphne? Can you try this on a retropie 3.2 with the latest daphne and let me know how it works for you?

If anyone can help me.....please do I follow this video up until the correct files are needed. I have an image file on my computer from arcadepunks and then installed Dragons Lair onto desktop... do I need to open and run game to get the correct files or is there another way to direct Daphne Downloader to confirm and torrent files without disc?

it would be even better if the scenes of the "stages" weren't all random, when I first played this game on my Amiga 500 back in 19** (long time ago) I remenber the game was more linear.

Sorry to bug you all. I followed the instructions, but upon launching game for the first time, i get "ROM d1_f2_u1.bin couldn't be found in roms/lair/, or in /opt/retropie/emulators/daphne/rom" Any idea?
