I have a few questions about Chromebook peripherals, can I attach a CD reader? Can I attach a Ethernet adaptor if there is not one on the Chromebook already? How is a printer attached to it either wirelessly or hard wired? I'm a senior and I'm thinking of getting one to replace my windows laptop or I might get a Chromebox since I would like a bigger screen, thanks for your video and help.

Hi I connected mine to my Chromebook and was using it fine and it was working and I know you have to eject it to get it off the device or it will corrupt it but I accidentally hit the arrow to the left of the file name after uploading photos and I cant find it on my computer to eject it so I don't know if its ejected. Can you help me because its hard to do a google search for this scenario?

he wont know hes a noob. he basically made a video about plug and play device. Don't expect technical knowledge from him. Lower end chromebooks don't have enough volt supply in USB to power a HDD. I'm stuck with mine Asus flip c3## something model.

My HDD is Ex-fat formatted and have lots of files in it I would not want to lose, my question is: when I connect the HDD to Chromebook the first time is it going to perform a default formatting of the HDD? Thanks

No. You can see from the video that he had to deliberately choose the option to format the drive he plugged in. The default action in the Chrome OS file browser would be just to make the files already on the drive available for browsing.

I already tried it. Using 3.5 orico hard drive enclosure.It was detected and appeared as USB Drive on my files app but when I try to open it said "This device cannot be opened because it's filesystem was not recognized." Tried to format but it wasn't successful.

So ... when I had my hard drive put into an enclosure so I could access from chromebook it was by a technician at a computer shop ... he removed my hardwire and hooked it to his PC. I think he said he had to make the files so that they would be visible. Now I access by selecting ingredients user . Then windows . That's all I can say ... any small computer shop should ve able to do it for you . I think I paid less than 40cdn

In the video description the author mentions the WD elements hard drives either the 2 TB or the 1tb model. What confuses me is his recommendation of file systems - the NTFS for use with the Chromebook and a PC, and then he cautions you that if you're going to use the external drive with a Chromebook and a Mac you must use XFAT. The reason I say that is because I've got a WD Elements 2 TB hard drive external and I have always used it interchangeably between my PC and my Mac with zero issues

Do you mean like a bootable thumb drive? So that you can boot the Chromebook to Windows instead of to the Chrome OS? Possibly you could do that but why would you want to?

(I don't know enough about either one to say what can and can't be done with them.) But it's okay I don't have to fool with it now (Thank the Lord!) Still curious to know, though.

You can store the files, but they will be reconfigured to match CHROME OS. I would just store them on a thumb stick like normal.
