Yes! At the end of the day you want your simpit to match DCS's cockpits, not necessarily a real F/A-18C's cockpit - which you'd hope is the same...

Great video, have been waiting for this one!! Pimax haven’t had the hand tracking module available for some time, but now I know it’s guts. I have an older leap motion unit and get less good results. This really helps with a VR cockpit project I have been playing with for a while now. Thanks for sharing!!

@@tallymouse I’m in the process of designing a VR cockpit 1:1 ‘kit’ inspired in no small part by what you showed was possible in your dynamic foveated rendering video. Had got close but changing the IPD to match hadn’t occurred to me. Also using in headset tracking looses accuracy combined with an old hand tracking module. Now have a much better idea where to focus on tweaking to get the results. Thank you again :)

@@tallymouse Yes, it is and nice to watch and listen. The issue is not on your side, VR is a f*** mess, you have to improve everything, edit files, try new conf, tweak, and so on, what you really get with a VR headset is a piece of hardware, no more, no support, no userfriendly, no update or more buggy ones, DIY for the rest or give it up, I did it. It works until it didn't for no reasons. Not at a mature stage IMHO. BR.

@@valerys.219 You're not wrong - bleeding edge PCVR is very much a technically-demanding hobbyists game. One is forced to research, google everything, even create code... Hardware companies are strangely dependent on independent developers' code to get everything to work as advertised - a very odd industry!

@@tallymouse Its quite good in visualizing where my hands are, but I am missing something since it wont "touch" the buttons (trying to use it without real hardware cockpit except HOTAS) in the F4. I wanted it be like you did in the Spitfire. Is the occulus emulation in the PimaxXR needed? Sorry I will rewatch your video again tomorrow - had a long VTOL VR Session and then some F4 Training 🙂. I do have some TM MFD's but not in use in that plane - got a bit mixed up in the years with WinWing, some TM stuff.)

Wonder how well all this would work with just a hard surface cut to represent the cockpit, something out of lightweight thin wood or 3D printed layers glued together in patches.

That was honestly my plan if we ever get a F35... 😂 More seriously, I think it could work very well if you were attempting to work touch-screens, because part of the issue when trying to use the touch without actual DDIs or MFCs is that you finger tip floats around IN the button, so it makes it fiddly.. maybe a properly positioned plywood sheet could work well!

Yes, meters. I haven't found another good way other than screen captures.. then calculating positions and angles afterward.

If you go into DCS options > control > UI layer, you will find "Recenter VR". You can then set whichever key combination or bind you would like.

So - does it work well enough to use most buttons in a modern jet without a physical sim pit? Do you think it would be a problem if you have your HOTAS mounted at a desk, or even just on the desk?

It works with small buttons better if you have something to physically press against - your MFD could even be a flat piece of plywood placed in the right location. Just remember to ensure that the cameras can see your finger-tip.. what would baby Jesus do?

Why is it when i use a Leap Motion 2 connected to the bottom of the Crystal it complains that it's a USB 2.0 port? It really affects the tracking quality. I would like to use the Leap Motion 2 that I already own.

Is the purchase of the hand tracking module worth the money? I would especially like to use it in microsoft flight simulator. Unfortunately, the module has not been available on the Pimax site for several months

It was for sale on the US site about a day before this video.. but is currently out-of-stock. You can sign up for a stock alert when it comes back in stock. For DCS, I find it invaluable now. I have a wingman who's really into GPS-guided bombs, and i'd be sat on deck for an hour if I was using my mouse to input all of the coordinates etc, now, it's a total breeze, just being able to press the actual buttons of the UFCs and DDIs etc. However, if you don't have "real" buttons to press, it can be a little hit and miss trying to press little MFD buttons accurately.. as seen in the Spitfire footage!

Yes. It works with the inside out tracking too. I use the LightHouses because my sim pit is mounted on a motion-rig, so I need the motion compensation to be decoupled from the tracking cameras.

Yes. However, it's a little fiddly. I found it better to "stroke" the knobs (no pun intended) than to attempt a twisting action.

Very good video, I tried it, it works, but I have a problem when I connect the left and right index finger in VR, in reality they are moved by 2cm and I don't know how to solve it. So that I use only my left hand. I have the same problem in the ultraleap demo software and can not find solution . Can you help me, please ?

@@tallymouse Yes, from 63.5 - 64.5, but as I said I have the same problem in the ultraleap demo software (Aurora). Maybe this is the root of problem. Is there some property (or structure property) in json for 'offset right hand by x axis' ? Thanks for answering.
