Just did my tires after a teeny thorn caused a slow leak. This video helped a lot. I didn't have any problems.

Thank you. Clear and concise. You made it look so easy, which it should be of course. Just takes a bit of practise.

Wow, nice and easy to inflate. I've had 2 sets of tubeless wheels/tyres and each set was nothing short of a nightmare to inflate. I must have tried 50 times on each wheel to get it inflated. I did all the tricks - inflate with a tube and leave for 2 days, soapy water round the tyre bead, add sealant into the tyre etc. only through sheer perseverance did I get them up and I have no idea why they would suddenly inflate after so many times leaking air somewhere. Surely there has to be an easier way...

QUESTION Is using tape on a rim just as good as a rim that is made to be tubless. Or is it just about the tires

I converted with tubeless rims but the tires are Schwalbe Marathon Mondales 26"x2" and are not tubeless ready. It worked great. I used a tube to set the beads then, then removed the tube leaving one bead in place. One tire filled and seated with a floor pump. The other required a CO2 cartridge. Added sealant through the valve (Filmore) and everything sealed up and has been working well. I believe that if you can make them seal, you're done. All the fearmongering about requiring tubeless tires is nonsense.

How much air do you let back out before adding the sealant ? Thanks
@aktechstack3 жыл бұрын
All the way out, just don't press hard on the tire so it comes free from the bead.

Hi, I inflate the tyre with my ‘Airshot’ without the valve core installed. Inflate the tyre till all the ‘popping’ (that’s the nice sound of the tyre seating itself under pressure into its rim thingy?) stops. Remove the connector from the valve fairly carefully as the tyre will deflate now. That’s ok as the tyre remains seated on the rim as long as you don’t Chuck it about. Now put your sealant in and re install the valve core. Your track pump should now easily inflate your tyre to required pressure. If it doesn’t! Connect air shot onto the valve core this time? It will inflate and seat itself quite easily now. Don’t be disappointed if the tyre seems to be slowly defkating. I mean like half it’s pressure maybe overnight? Your sealant just needs a little time sometimes to do it;s job. Reinflate the tyre, spin the tyre a bit, thereby distributing the sealant. All should be good. Always carry a pump and/or co2 cartridges with you, for top ups for your self, or to assist others needing ‘air’. Sorry I’m banging on a bit here. Take care, enjoy your bike.

Great video, super idea for mak9ng the valve hole via heating a hot metal point. Could of spent a little more time showing the sealant an how you know how much 2-3oz is. But otherwise great detail 👌🏻 👍🏼

great video thanks what is the pressure on the compressor to seat the tire? thx
@downshift-handcraftedbikes77423 жыл бұрын
we set the compressor to 120psi and seat the tires at about 100% max pressure.

What if I don't have a compressor? I need to convert my bike to tubeless but I don't have access to a compressor

If you find a high-volume floor pump (as opposed to a high pressure) it can work.

does the sealant stay liquid on the inside? how would changing to a new tire be? pretty messy?
@aktechstack2 жыл бұрын
Yes and Yes. If you have a way to keep the tire "upright" and in the shape of round it can stay inside pretty easily.

If only, alas narrower tires are a lot harder to bead up than MTB tubeless. Usually requires setting bead with a tube, removing tube trying again with soapy water, having it not work, rinse repeat, and about the third time it works. Also have known people to throw a bit a sealant in with the tube to help with the seal.
@downshift-handcraftedbikes77423 жыл бұрын
Our experience with narrow tubeless is to use high quality tubeless tires and rims. They usually seat on the first try no tube needed. Good luck!

@@downshift-handcraftedbikes7742 Darn Shimano/WTB rims and Gravel Kings/Maxxis tires 😋. Have set a lot of tires in a lot of dif. rims for people and definitely it sometimes just goes “click.” Then other times it mostly just goes “bat 💩.” Know a fellow that swears by Vaseline...clearly was a hard day. And with the new inserts for gravel, that adds an extra level 😰. But I bow to your good fortune and wish you all the best in future set ups, no one likes a struggle when you’d rather be riding.
@downshift-handcraftedbikes77423 жыл бұрын
@@Graptos Oh man, we have definitely struggled! Mostly WTB tires and low quality "tubeless" rims. Sealant everywhere and not holding air. We know the frustration! Good luck and thanks for watching.

From the process it looks like you could make valve stem by cutting off an old one from an inner tube and tape it up or glue it to the rim.
