I don't know if this got patched in later but now days you can do LAN play via wifi, as long as all switches are on the same wifi network. This allows a much more stable connection and support longer distances, also a mix of wifi and ethernet adapters work just fine.

Shame you can't do 4-player per screen for 8 player on 2 switches with 2 screens. I have an 65" OLED which is fine for 4 player. Not worth the hassle and expense just to have 4 player split over 2 screens.

Yeah, only having 2 Switches + Screens seems to be the most likely variant to have at someone's home in real life for a big Mario Kart party. Exactly the one variant they left out.

Can anybody explain why LAN play cannot be achieved using ONLY a Ethernet Switch Box? The idea of LAN gaming is to eliminate any wireless connectivity completely.
@reyesh6 жыл бұрын
Dead Pixel you can do this with only Ethernet switch boxes, however the nintendo switches will need to have static IPs or have another device on the network distributing IPs, which is what the router is doing.

Another situation: can a docked switch and an undocked switch connect using the built in wireless feature?

I am wondering what the maximum amount of players is on one LAN. Last time we played with 16 players on 8 switches. So considering the max of 12 in one game we made a group of eight players and another group of eight. Next time it will be 20 hoping that the game will accept it :)
@CoachCartersAcademy10 ай бұрын
Let me know if that works!
@erikstijnen10 ай бұрын
@@CoachCartersAcademy In the meanwhile we have had a tournament with 24 players on one LAN, 2 groups of 12 people. Brilliant fun and still no sign of network lag or something. The only moment that we sometimes get a connection error is in the lobby when people are entering it for the first time. Never after the first race or later. To add: All our Switches were close to the WiFi acces point and that is probably of importance too :)

so you needed to use a router with an internet connection ? Nintendo claims you don't need an internet connection to do this. that's confusing.
@Mymatevince7 жыл бұрын
I tried it with just a network switch and I couldn't get it to work without plugging in an Ethernet lead from the router. I didn't try disconnecting the feed to the router (so I didn't try having the router switched on but without an incoming internet signal). Perhaps someone reading this will know if you can get it to work without an internet connection.
@octubre_lilaka7 жыл бұрын
sloan11 and My Mate VINCE, it should work unless Nintendo does some weird data tracking, which shouldn't happen bc it would be stored in game memory and not online. I can't think why they would have you directly connect to the internet through the router accept for the one above.
