Alright in this video we go over the usefulness and time saving of Speed/Slip dowels for your rebar instead of later drilling up to 100 holes into the freshly poured concrete and taking the risk of cracking it.

As someone who works in Accounting and needs to know how the material is being used, whether it is in a permanent or non-permanent basis, videos like this are tremendously helpful! This allows me to know when material is taxable or tax exempt when it's being used/installed on a tax exempt job, so thank you very much for showing the beginning to end process!

That dowel bar is ribbed rebar or plain bar? Is the hole bigger then the bar you put inside?

I do commercial concrete so this might not suit you but what we do is this . We form up and then for example the job we at doing now they want them 4 feet apart with triangle dowels in between . We simple drill a hole 3 in from bottom slide in the rebar and pour.

This is great, thanks! For a new pour next to existing, I guess the only option is to drill the existing, or hope the new and old concrete doesn't move too much?

Hi Odell. I am having a concrete patio poured that will extend the entire back and wrap around the right side. It will be connected to the existing foundation with rebar dowels. The city inspector demands the dowels be greased? They grease the dowels for sidewalks and driveways, but I am not sure that is advisable for my cement patio. The patio is 12 feet by 49 feet along the back of house and then it wraps around the side 10 feet by 25 feet. The cement will have a outer beam and then one beam in the middle because of the length. Cement will be about 4 inches but a total of approximately 6-7 inches because the contractor intends to add gravel or fill to make up the difference. The ground is clay type soil. Please let me know if grease or adhesive on the rebar should be used. My sense is that the patio and foundation must move together especially that I will have a patio cover added and that will be connected to the house along the back and wrap around as well.

To pouring floor ground pavement slab into the house and use this because the main power team is small . What do you think to use the plastic between cuts or not ? or instead using some grout cement right before pouring to contact better .there will be a crack there anyway i am aware but i could run a rounded corner there and put some sand base elastic filler or some rubber material .what do you recommend for that situation ?

How thick are you pouring the concrete for an area that will be used for cars? Never heard of rebar dowels before, something i'll have to look out for.

Hy Odell ! i ask you something about this in the past and here i ve founded! Can you mention me please something about slab between floors using this? and could you mention me some good concrete additive ! See you work only with fine and small aggregate less the 15 mm i am right ?Do you think using smaller aggregate increase the strength of the concrete mass?is better using smaller aggregate on pouring columns or beams? What you think ?recommend?

Do you see any problem using these speed dowels and putting expansion joint in between? I live in Western PA and trying to account for expansion/contraction. Also I didn't know you did a video with Mike Haddock from PA. That was really cool. I watch a lot of his videos as well.

I think if you caulk the joints and maintain them, should be no problem. Yes we met up at WOC

Hey Dave. Should you not have tied the re-bar grid to the re-bar pins that you put in the speed pin holes. That way any stress on the slab it will act as one entire slab. You could Line up your re-bar in the slab with the pins and tie them together and then BAM you have one slab with essentially re-bar going right thru. Just saying.

It there a way to remove those plastic sleeves? Perhaps by oiling them first? I'ld rather be able to epoxy the rebar for the next section to the concrete not the plastic. Thanks

I have a pad that was poured a year after my shop slab. They drilled and pinned into the entry way of the roll up door. We’re getting -20 for the last week and my every way has cracked out some sections and taken some big divers out of the entry (older) slab. I’m wondering if that should have been a smooth bar or a slip joint like this. I’m tempted to get my saws all and release those pins....thoughts?

So I’m pouring a sidewalk on the other end and they’ve epoxied the dowels in already I’m thinking of using some scrap lengths of pex and slip it over the dowels. Instead for grinding the ridges smooth

Why dowel.... Can't you extend rebar out through form and then overlap your rebar for next slab.
