I've never setup the tent by steaking out all four corners first. I find the corners opposite of the ridgeline (treking pole) guyouts works good for a perfect pitch each time. However, I never thought about folding the tent in thirds like that, I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks for the video!

Good job. I’ve been concerned about how high up the doors are from the ground. You are the first person I’ve seen talk or show how to get the vestibule closer to the ground.

Hi Ryan, nice vid, do bottoms of both trekking poles go on grass outside actual tent thereby not damaging tent groundsheet ?
@RyanKodakBrown5 ай бұрын
Yes they do

Great video, be nice to see how it’s set up in really strong winds. Any recommendations? Stack the backpack on one side of the layer out tent as I stake out 2 corners first? I’ve also noticed that I’ll probably need 4 extra pegs for the ground sheet, I just set up my duplex just before and it was light winds but enough to be annoying, the ground sheet was moving around a lot underneath the tent, even after it was pitched it moved a little because the floor is not heavy enough to hold it down

Hahaha, well.... try to find sheltered sites! I just hold on to it and stake the upwind corner first then the adjacent one. At least then the wind won't blow it over itself! As for the groundsheet, I usually use rocks or something to hold it in place until I can get the gear inside but titanium "Shepard hook" stakes can be nice for this as well. I never liked them for the main stakes though. Good luck!

I use the duplex and the freeduo. When I use the Duplex I miss the free duo and when I use the free duo I miss the Duplex....lol...If I had to choose more than likely I'd pick the Duplex. Great tent.

Do you think it’s worthwhile to get the duplex xl thruhiking with two people one of whom is 6’1” or does the duplex work fine and isn’t worth the extra 2 ounces for 5 inches?
@RyanKodakBrown2 жыл бұрын
After spending another two months in the regular Duplex in the cold and wet Canadian rockies, I would DEFINITELY get the XL. The regular only works for me (6' 1" also) if I pull out the head and feet well. And even then only barely. I still wake with wet feet (sleeping bag) from touching the single wall. For the record, I never actually used the XL but would LOVE an extra few inches in there.

It only needs two but I often use four, or just sticks. Works just as well. The extra are for the head and footbox to make more room in the tent. Otherwise, it sags on my head and feet.
